Tegrid seems fun but she seems like she wants to be in a wheel deck most of all. Provides ramp when opponents discards lands to fuel the wheel train. As a commander she seems fun.
Yeah, Tergrid, God of Fear is nutty. I'm definitely going to be finding some homes for her. Even if I have to build them.

I really like Tegrid in a MonoBlack control setup.
I like Mind Slash and Sadistic Hypnotist as a potentially repeated discard/theft option.

I will note that Jodah needs cards in hand and Golos requires you to tap out. Both are fairly vulnerable to removal. This requires neither, is immune to most wraths and spot removal, and gains you a free card every turn guaranteed where as the other two have a chance of whiffing.Rumpy5897 wrote: ↑3 years agoMeanwhile, The Prismatic Bridge is another one of those ones. Is it more obnoxious than Golos? No. Will it beat out Golos? No. Will Golos run it? Also leaning no, as I don't think you can jam the Bridge off a flip. But every now and then you'll run into one of these in the wild that will cheat out Jin Gitface or other crazy haymakers way before their time. So like Jodah/Golos do, but with a slightly different flavour.
My problem with him is that he is a nightmare to play on webcam. Once I can play in person I'll probably build this and play it twice before taking it apart. I already own a lot of stuff for this build so it will only require a small order at most.Mookie wrote: ↑3 years agoTegrid, God of Fear + Smallpox? Seems gooooooood. Tegrid + Death Cloud? I was reading Tegrid, God of Fear I was waiting for the downside..but it never came.
Dark Deal or Memory Jar and then put all the permanents including lands opponents discard into play. What? That is so busted I love it.
Going to brew a deck for sure. This is the sort of card that is going to play way better than you might even imagine.

So Koma is the new Simic pushed mythic. I don't know what else to say, other than to ask if we should start a sweep for how quickly its banned from a format.
In B4 BAN Tegrid, God of Fear
The Secret of Commander (EDH)
Sheldon-"The secret of this format is in not breaking it. "
I know this is joke but it does make me think of Leovold, Emissary of Trest a bit. The key difference is that black has very few wheels, though there are a few other ways Leovold would outshine Tegrid.
I don't really see Tegrid fitting into any of my decks, though I have a few Grave Pact decks...
Nekusar, the Mindrazer is obvious. (fun anecdote, before Nekusar was a card I had been working on a Grixis discard deck, and couldn't figure out which commander to use. Then all of a sudden, Nekusar came out, I was super excited, then I faced a million Nekusar decks and never even sleeved it up). Too overplayed and tiresome.
Should be its own commander, really, but I just don't want a second monoblack commander.
I dunno, maybe I should finally make Nekusar and just go full nonsense with Hullbreacher, Narset, Parter of Veils, etc.
The New World fell not to a sword but to a meme
Sarulf and Tergrid seem like friends that I never want to play with or against. Tergrid also likes the Fleshbag clones.
Guys, it's okay, we'll be fine because we all will use U now and play Ravenform to deck with these good, annoying critters.

Mirri, Cat Warrior counts as a Cat Warrior.
It's fine that Blue gets removal that match their identities, in this case it's transformation.BeneTleilax wrote: ↑3 years agoBlue has straight up artifact removal now. Because color pie limitations are for Boros.
The real problem here is Blue doesn't need additional support as much as other colors (such as white and Boros) needing ramps and draw.
My lord, she's disgusting in so many decks...
Kess, Dissident Mage, Lazav, the Multifarious, Meren of Clan Nel Toth, Nath of the Gilt-Leaf, Nekusar, the Mindrazer, The Mimeoplasm, ...
And aside from Pox and Wheels there's Living Death, Jace's Archivist and others.
Just the thought of a Lazav, the Multifarious package consisting of Tegrid, God of Fear, Jace's Archivist, Notion Thief, Hullbreacher, Opposition Agent et al makes me shudder.
Btw, why's her card tag Tegrid, when she's obviously named Tergrid?

Spirit Blade's the exact sort of card I wanna play in my Siona, Captain of the Pyleas deck, but I wish it granted an ability instead of stat ups. Even first strike would be more interesting! I love options-y resilient cards like this in general, especially in a deck which runs Oath of Druids, but +2/+2 in commander feels like +0/+0 anywhere else lol
Though I disdain tutors, I am excited to see what new cards the white snow-storic tutor can grab.
(Tutors either save your butt by finding an answer or dig up something to advance your gameplan. Right now I don't think the target package exists to do either with this card. Maybe people who play Thalia's Lancers can provide more insight into what I am missing.)
(I do think we'll get neat cards to grab with it. I just don't think we have seen them yet. I like white trying to synergize with specific types, though.)
EDIT: I forgot planeswalkers exist and are legends. I don't like them and never use them. So I guess it's another PW tutor at the very least.

I've been playing them in my rather casual Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist deck - mainly to fetch Planeswalkers, which are neatly secured by a first striking 4/4 - even without the kitty.Serenade wrote: ↑3 years agoRight now I don't think the target package exists to do either with this card. Considering the overall options in mono white alone we most significantly have:
Bombs like Akroma's Memorial, Avacyn, Angel of Hope, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and Eldrazi.
Card draw such as Alhammarret's Archive, Azor's Gateway // Sanctum of the Sun and Sram, Senior Edificer.
Wraths among others Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, Elspeth, Sun's Champion, Myojin of Cleansing Fire, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon and Urza's Ruinous Blast.
Recursion in Ajani, Adversary of Tyrants and Hall of Heliod's Generosity.
Combo Pieces with Heliod, Sun-Crowned, Helm of the Host and Mindslaver.
Even Ramp with Legion's Landing // Adanto, the First Fort, Mox Amber, Mox Opal, Serra's Sanctum and to an extend Azor's Gateway // Sanctum of the Sun
Hate Pieces such as Hokori, Dust Drinker, Linvala, Keeper of Silence and the Thalias.
I was never disappointed by drawing them and given you have enough targets - and no expectation of curving into them aggressively - they carry their weight, no doubt.
That's a great overview, would just like to add Mangara II for draw, Mangara I for (shoddy) removal and Sword of Rampant Growth for ramp. Yeah, this is not a bad card at all. The recursion aura's also something I'm happy about, as previously mentioned this is a direction I think white should get to follow more.
Other solid legendary cards to tutor for:
- Serra's sanctum
- Gaea's cradle
- Kataki, war's wage
- Reki, the history of kamigawa
- Vivien, champion of the wilds
- Sorin Markov
- Kokusho, the evening star
- Yawgmoth, thran physician
- Teferi, time raveler
- Ashiok, dream render
- Linvala, keeper of silence
- Kamahl, fist of krosa
- Olivia voldaren
- Vona, butcher of magan
- Helm of the host
- Aurelia, the warleader
- Gisela, the broken blade
- Bruna, the fading light

I've considered a legendary package for my Teysa deck in the past, with Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle and Primevals' Glorious Rebirth as the primary payoffs. I'm not sure if Search for Glory will be enough to make me actually finally run it, but certainly an interesting option.
Quakebringer is Sulfuric Vortex on a body, but triggering from the graveyard is pretty cool. Probably not an EDH card though.
Vega, the Watcher is mildly interesting. Foretell is the obvious payoff, but flashback / retrace / jump-start is also an option.

While Giant-tribal might not be common, Conspiracy/Arcane Adaptation stuff or changelings could use it, too.Mookie wrote: ↑3 years agoQuakebringer is Sulfuric Vortex on a body, but triggering from the graveyard is pretty cool. Probably not an EDH card though.
Also copies cast via things like Eye of the Storm or Mizzix's Mastery, other ways of casting from graveyard like Underworld Breach, casting from the library, Madness because it casts from exile, cascade, lots of kinds of spell theft, Isochron Scepter. And your commander. There's a pretty wide swath of stuff that doesn't get cast from hand.Mookie wrote: ↑3 years agoVega, the Watcher is mildly interesting. I really like Vega, the Watcher, but not for normal reasons. I like it because I think it would be a great commander for either someone looking to build a budget azorius deck or a new player. It has a very clear goal of what it wants to do, its simple, and it has a lot of budget options on what it wants to do.
I love Quakebringer just because it is metal.
And finally, they did it. They made DRAUPNIR! One of my favorite legendary artifacts of all time in any mythos. Might be interesting in a proliferate, ramp deck. But either way, its lovely.

I have a Jori En "6 drop tribal" deck, which evolved into a pile of solid stat creatures to copy up. I already run Frost/Inferno titan... I'm thinking about modifying it to extend into a more Giant friendly theme now. The new saga seems nice, and this seems like a fun Giant to copy a few times over.

Suspend, Commanders, Eldraine Adventurers, too. It's just vague enough to be kind of exciting.Mookie wrote: ↑3 years agoVega, the Watcher is mildly interesting. Foretell is the obvious payoff, but flashback / retrace / jump-start is also an option.

oo11 asked:
People are calling Ravenform a break. Is it?
Here's what I can say about Ravenform. Magic is a game made by a lot of very smart people. Many decisions happen after lengthy and meaningful discussions between them. Ravenform affecting artifacts was one such topic. If the decision was mine and mine alone to make, I wouldn't have had it affect artifacts.
