Right? I think my bad takes on magic are rubbing off on him.

Creating Commander content, or really, any content, is a lot more difficult than it looks. I had some serious difficulties when on Salvation we were trying to get the Word Of Command article series going for the forum. The few tips I can give (and also repeat from elsewhere) are:Segrus wrote: ↑4 years agoPretty much. Part of why I'm hesitant to try to make any sort of larger presence anywhere. For example, I think it would be cool to create Commander content in some form or fashion (and have made a few steps in the past to figure out how that might look for me), but I've got enough to deal with already to then heap the hot coals of social media on my head. Although to be fair there's more than just that which road blocks me to being a creator.
Marisi seems like a ton of fun. What I like is that the goad ability then makes it easier to get in for another hit. I think it'll draw a lot of removal though, because people won't be able to easily drop utility creatures without fear of things dying. This means that Marisi will likely have a lot of removal aimed at her because people will be afraid to develop their boards. Although, if you goad everyone, then everyone is defenseless. I also see an inherent weakness where non-creature decks are going to be less affected by her, and will likely have a control advantage. Think something like Superfriends Wrath heavy decks - make sure to pack your Heroic Interventions and Boros Charms.
This is all stone truth. We've had discussions about content in the primer committee here and there before, and these are all points that keep coming up. RL has sort of got in the way of us ever doing stuff, but maybe one day soon, you never know.bobthefunny wrote: ↑4 years agoCreating Commander content, or really, any content, is a lot more difficult than it looks. Make sure you know what you're trying to do. One issue we had with WOC was just going off all over the place. We had set reviews, strategy highlights, forum news, pet cards, deck highlights... It made it hard to nail down an identity, and oddly enough - having more to cover made it harder to keep a schedule, since it made it harder to plan out future weeks. Even the writing style and tone shifted quite a bit.
Have a backlog of finished product before you're ready to launch - This does two things - first, it gets you onto creating on your schedule, to see if your attempted schedule is feasible, and also gets you into that habit and mentality to set the time for it. Second - Even once you have your schedule nailed down, things will happen. Have those emergency backup articles in place to run if needed. Also always have your content ready one cycle ahead. Think of how wizards runs their sets - when one set is released, the next is already printed and ready, and the one after that is already in review. Not saying you need to be 2 years in advance, but you should probably be working several pieces of content ahead.
If you need pieces from other people - make sure you get them far ahead of time, and that you have a plan if pieces don't make it in. A group effort takes a lot more coordination, and you need the pieces far enough ahead that you can properly hook and establish them in the piece.
Can confirm everything he said about Word of Command. It was fun doing but like he said, really difficult to get going on a routine basis.bobthefunny wrote: ↑4 years agoCreating Commander content, or really, any content, is a lot more difficult than it looks. The concept I started looking at for Marisi was all the free on-attack token generators - Hero of Bladehold, Leonin Warleader, Emmara, soul of the accord, Hanweir Garrison, etc. Ususally they can be a bit risky, because once a good blocker comes out, a lot of value is on the main body. Goad helps break that issue, and Glare of Subdual and similar effects (maybe even Diversionary Tactics) can use the tokens to shut down the rest.
I'm currently taking this shell a different direction - but Marisi is my next option should this idea not pan out. I may even build both, though I worry about overlap.
Believe you me, these are all things I've thought about and heard other people talk about in different forms and about different content. It's not an endeavor I would take lightly if I decided to finally buckle down and commit to it. I'm just at a point where the life path I thought I was on for the foreseeable future got abruptly halted and may likely never be a thing. I've done a lot of smaller projects in the past, like develop a board game all the way to almost looking at getting real prototypes produced (including dropping off the game with completely new, nice folks and letting them figure out the game through the rulebook), but nothing too big. Sometime though I'm going to have to decide what to funnel my free time into, and shooting high might be good for me.bobthefunny wrote: ↑4 years agoCreating Commander content, or really, any content, is a lot more difficult than it looks. I try to reach out with kind words both here and on twitter(trappedslider) unless it's that cube freak cryogen, the feedback on your state of the format (someone posted it to post bin fyi to get around the pay wall) makes me glad that I'm not part of the RC or CAG,I mentally do not have the capability to deal with the storms that come your way.Sheldon wrote: ↑4 years agoWant to touch back on the Shivam thing. Yes, it sucks to get garbage on social media, especially when you don't deliver garbage yourself. Here's the thing, at least for me: one person reaching out and saying "don't let the haters get to you; thanks for what you're doing" is worth more than a hundred haters spewing their nonsense. A kind word really does go a long way, and I'm pleased that Nexus has been full of many kind words so far.
Just posted mine including, as it appears, the first Selesnya and Simic decks entries. Who would've thought?
The decklists must be from nexus topic links, right?
Yes.
Some times. I mean, it was just a breastplate and helmet, I didn't have full plate in order to keep my AC bonus.

SPOILERShowHideNo, I was Ordinance Corps, specifically wheeled vehicle maintenance. I did get to drive an M113 APC once though but that's as close as I got to an actual tank.
