RE: Current Building Thoughts:
I've retired Zegana 1.0 for now in a similar vein. It was always a jankier set of cards and lower on the totem pole anyway. I'd like a "Horrors of the Deep (Ocean)" kinda deck but need some distance from the idea for now and possibly a different general.
I have an idea for Kaalia 2.0, just not going to commit to it (and posting it) for now. The idea I had for Elsha was jank, and I can admit was a bit of "shiny new general" syndrome. If that's a thing. Breya might be going the same way of Elsha or Zegana, haven't looked at that deck for a good month and a half or so.
Might build Abzan Elves with Kethis, whatever his face? Literally just for colors and typing. I basically am building Temur Lands.dec, general not important at the moment. I'd really like some more Temur generals. Lacking for choice in that department.

Welcome unicornturtle! I know not about the sportsball, but welcome all the same.

Wrexial, the Risen Deep seems cool for that. Very Lovecraftian. Although, to be fair you lose some of the cooler simic merfolk, so maybe Arixmethes, the Slumbering Isle would suit.Sanity_Eclipse wrote: ↑4 years agoI'd like a "Horrors of the Deep (Ocean)" kinda deck but need some distance from the idea for now and possibly a different general.
It's weird, I actually have nothing new being built at the moment. I get most of my edh snuck into smallish time slots, and like half of it is just Zedruu, I hardly have enough play to enjoy what I have.

Maybe a Lovecraftian take on that deck would be interesting. Something to ponder. /thumbsuptoctheyounger wrote: ↑4 years agoWrexial, the Risen Deep seems cool for that. Very Lovecraftian. So, ponies. This is a resounding meh from me, but people seem pretty excited about this so that's cool. Considering at best they'll be temporarily legal in Commander, I'll pay as much attention to this as I did Unstable (barely any).
That said, if they make a Vinyl Scratch legendary creature I'll probably have to build a deck around her.
Edit: Well nevermind, I just read the announcement instead of relying on Twitter noise.

It's this year's Hasbro crossover thing, so only 3 cards. Much like Grimlock/Nerfwar from yesteryear.
Since I run a Grimlock deck, if I get these, I'll probably build a Pony deck. Since Grimlock is pretty solid Dino tribal, I'll probably build Pony deck as Horse/Pegasus tribal, which shouldn't be too hard, really.

I think it's a good step up from last year's offering (and I love last year's offering, so this says a lot). I mean, I love the design of Nerf War and Sword of Dungeons & Dragons, and I have a much closer tie to those two products/universes - but you can't really run those cards.
Grimlock, Dinobot Leader however, sees play as a house-ruled Commander (Get your groups' permission!), and it shows in how the value between those cards got spread out. (Though I do want to pick up some extra Nerf Wars to make a set of 'precon' dueling decks with...).
Having 3 legendary creatures this time around I think plays into what they learned from last time quite well. And I vaguely remember a lot of speculation/requests for MLP cards when people saw the last crossover events. Added to it being for a good cause, and I'd be happy to support it.

Got a couple of Green Boosters from Eldraine today, the rares ended up being Once Upon A Time and Oko, Thief of Crowns. Despite a bit of confusion on getting Oko (maybe the announcement mentioned being able to get multicolor cards in the color-focused boosters, don't remember), I'll definitely take that for rando pulls.

Nice pulls! Between my wife and myself we seem to have pretty much covered all of the value cards, although I'm a bit jealous of her copy of Rankle. That card is versatile and fun.Sanity_Eclipse wrote: ↑4 years agoGot a couple of Green Boosters from Eldraine today, the rares ended up being Once Upon A Time and Oko, Thief of Crowns. The collectors boosters were interesting though. Our LGS just handed them out with boxes for stalwart customers. My wife and I each got one and the disparity was stunning. She pulled a Korvold, as well as a couple of great rares from the set itself. I got like 12 foil commons and a foil Wicked Wolf. Worse than any standard booster I've opened in a long time.

toctheyounger Oof. That collector booster of yours is some creamy dumpster juice. Hot darn.

Ordered a bunch of stuff to rework Titania as well. Gonna pimp out that deck to an extent \m/
(foil Nissa's and hydras!)

Yeah it was pretty bad. For a special product I sort of expected to at least see close to parity for value (they go for like 35 NZD to buy). Still, a booster is a booster, not a guarantee of value. Perhaps they could've narrowed the range of rares for higher quality, but whatever, I did fine with other pulls.Sanity_Eclipse wrote: ↑4 years agotoctheyounger

My mono green is my pimp deck too - completely full art lands and always gets the first pick for tasty additions too

Yeah, boosters are a gamble. Equal parts fun and annoying. I've had some decent luck in the past with these Chaos-like boxes from Walmart (any big general retailer might have them, for non-Americans) that have random, somewhat recent boosters.toctheyounger wrote: ↑4 years agoYeah it was pretty bad. Yeah, pimpage talk. I'm using a Snow land base for Titania, with the Coldsnap Forests, with Mouth and Sheets. The Modern Horizon Snows are pretty, but I slightly prefer the CSP Forests. I acquired the CSP Forests before Horizons, so that's a slightly moot point but anyway. I'm piecing together Lands.dec and some of the Lands.dec repeats from Titania are going into while Titania gets the pimpin'.

My Molimo deck is my pimp project, but for the lands I'm getting foils of the random assortment of Invasion/Odyssey forests I used to build the deck with in the first place.

That's a good point. I kind of like having a set of lands from the commander's home plane.
For the sake of making some mechanics work I have MH snows in Nissa, as well as full art zendikars.
Glissa has (aside from like 2) all Mirrodin swamps and forests. They actually fit the deck really nicely, I'm really glad I did it for that one.

Yeah my (now dismantled) Assassin's Creed themed deck had all Ravnica basics for the cityscape art. I'm considering going through mono-W and changing the Plains up so each one is different to fit the theme there.

My twist on that is that I don't necessarily do basics from the home plane of a general (though I'm not opposed to it; it just depends). I go for what aesthetically pleases me and the spirit of the deck.toctheyounger wrote: ↑4 years agoThat's a good point. I kind of like having a set of lands from the commander's home plane.

I get that too. Admittedly the Eldraine basics are pretty damn gorgeous.

On the topic of booster gambling, I just impulse bought a couple ELD packs and pulled foil Oko, Thief of Crowns. The gambling pays off sometimes.
I went to Walmart on Friday and grabbed the 6 remaining Brawl decks they had, putting me at halfway to enough Arcane Signets for my cube. Then I'll need ones for decks too, so god knows how many more I need. My life is hard.

Very hard, having to choose to spend that money! Ours all went on preorders, so I'm left with not even the option to order them until further notice.
My wife gave me the Korvold she pulled, so that's nice. I think she felt bad for my awful collectors booster. It's probably the only commander I wanted anyway from the decks.
They really need to print that signet into the ground, the price for what it is is just crazy.

Local target had nothing but empty space by the time I checked at 8:30 AM Friday morning, so I'm just waiting for the second print run before I try and pick anything up.
