So, unintentionally Switch ended my time on Sally just short of 700 posts and i'm glad.
Back in July, i already put all my deck threads on hold and added links to their MTGN replacements as well as swapping my signature links for MTGN ones. I was still checking the forum every once in a while, but tbh subconsciously i was propably waiting for a trigger to quit Sally for good. For the second time this year i got locked out of my Twitch account and since it was an unpleasant struggle to get access again last time, i decided to call it quits.
The bottom line is, i'm already happy with the development of MTGN so far and will happily see where it takes us all!

I honestly expected the split to be more thorny than what ended up happening. The EDH part of Sally has become quite ghost town'y, with the traffic largely moving over here. I pop by once every week or so, just to check whether anything interesting happened in old threads I posted in. The answer has been no so far.

The EDH and modern subs both look like they largely moved over here. Standard here seems pretty dead, but I'll admit to not really following that sub in either location. Legacy forum traffic is almost entirely still the source where it hasn't shifted to discord. It makes a lot of sense when you break it down - the formats that jumped tend to have longer term players and therefore more established communities. Something like standard probably has a more transient userbase because it's easier to jump in and out of.

Also, the standard sub might gain more traffic when the spoilers of the upcoming set start because ppl might be interested in brewing new decks for a newer meta.

Wow, I have to say I am fairly happy with wizard's ban changes today. I don't play legacy(ohhh thats vintage lol) but the standard / modern changes look great to me. I honestly didn't think wizards had it in them to ban faithless looting.

I might have to start playing Legacy just so I can use Fastbond, since someone won't let me use it in Commander.ISBPathfinder wrote: ↑4 years agoWow, I have to say I am fairly happy with wizard's ban changes today. Well, to be fair, someone won't let you use it in Legacy eithercryogen wrote: ↑4 years agoI might have to start playing Legacy just so I can use Fastbond, since someone won't let me use it in Commander.ISBPathfinder wrote: ↑4 years agoWow, I have to say I am fairly happy with wizard's ban changes today. Fastbond was simply unrestricted in Vintage. Its ban status in Legacy remains unchanged (which means it is still banned).
This is what I'm hoping for. If any Standard players, or Standard-curious players come up with any brew ideas as spoiler season gets underway, feel free to post your ideas in the Standard forum. I plan to start a thread over there when the time comes and will be providing feedback for anyone who is interested - I'm not a great player by any stretch, but I've played many different archetypes in many different iterations of Standard.vandertroll wrote: ↑4 years agoAlso, the standard sub might gain more traffic when the spoilers of the upcoming set start because ppl might be interested in brewing new decks for a newer meta.

I do have some slight fear that rotation won't feel as much impact this year. Ixilan block was a low powered block in comparison to the ravnica sets and if you look at a lot of the current non aggro decks they were full of cards from the ravnica sets. I know there will be shake up but it feels like Ixilan leaving might not be as impactful as most rotations.
The aggro decks will probably be what change the most. Some of the spot removal of control decks will also change but a lot of the wincons feel like they are out of ravnica / M2020 sets.

I exclusively play Standard on Arena and I am also not a great brewer because I can't devote much time looking over new cards from latest sets. I think that there should be one Standard forum both for paper and online, not like it was on sally.rujasu wrote: ↑4 years agoThis is what I'm hoping for. The top two decks in Standard right now are Scapeshift and B/W Vampires. M19 rotating means no more Scapeshift, and Ixalan block rotating means no more vampires (seriously, almost the entire deck is history). Nexus is gone. Mono-blue is gone. Mono-red loses a lot. Jeskai Superfriends and Esper Hero might be safe, they lose Teferi, Hero of Dominaria but not too much else. That's still a lot of changes though. Whole new format.ISBPathfinder wrote: ↑4 years agoI do have some slight fear that rotation won't feel as much impact this year. So, vamps really wasn't all that viable until M2020 so while I do have some sympathy for their rotation they really weren't competative before they got their hands on the newest Sorrin.rujasu wrote: ↑4 years agoThe top two decks in Standard right now are Scapeshift and B/W Vampires. The difference between scapeshift and Yarok doesn't actually seem like its that big. Sure they will have to make a swap and change the deck up but in a nutshell its a Field of the Dead deck and I feel like Field is going to be quite strong still after rotation.
There is still a lot of room for Nissa, Who Shakes the World / Hydroid Krasis / Mass Manipulation decks as well. It is true that they will drop Llanowar Elves but there are still several other 2 & 3 mana ramp options that will stay through rotation. I guess my concern is more that Ixilan got overpowered a LOT by ravnica. Most all of the bombs and midrange threats right now are almost all from ravnica block and while its true that vamps is decent right now, it really wasn't until the set before it rotated out.

I remember a few years back when they came out with that promo and the price dropped to like $13 or so I ended up buying up a few more. I think I probably have 4-6 of them these days.
I have enough of them I might actually do a little modern testing with it. I am a HUGE fan of it and I used to play it back in the days of caw blade in standard (although I played mine different than the net deck lol).

I don't really believe in Yarok. I know we're talking about a ramp deck where you tutor for lands, but adding a fourth color is still tricky. I think the deck's dead, but if it does stick around, it will be substantially different.ISBPathfinder wrote: ↑4 years agoSo, vamps really wasn't all that viable until M2020 so while I do have some sympathy for their rotation they really weren't competative before they got their hands on the newest Sorrin.

Ixalan and RIX weren't super high power, but Dominaria was, and even M19 provided important pieces of the puzzle.
I agree that you will have some kind of Hydroid Krasis/Nissa, Who Shakes the World ramp deck, but it won't necessarily dominate the meta.

Yeah, I have a nonfoil WWK set as well as a foil WWK one. I love playing the card. I don't know if it's enough to get me out to a modern tournament though. Maybe if I either find or brew a particularly fun looking bant list.ISBPathfinder wrote: ↑4 years agoI remember a few years back when they came out with that promo and the price dropped to like $13 or so I ended up buying up a few more. I made that mistake back when i got into the game, sold a foil SFM...I think the only way i'd sell the one I have now is if I needed the money or it got banned in commander lolSocorroTortoise wrote: ↑4 years agoI'd sell now if you're planning on it. They're going to drop as the hype dies down.
If you weren't going to sell them, congrats?
The Secret of Commander (EDH)

I'm struggling to think of the last time I used my SFM in Commander. I think she jus sits in my cube never getting drafted.

I scrambled my nonfoil WWK playset from drafts back when the set was new (and before SoM came out), when no one wanted them. Never used them except for 1 in EDH, but because I figured out I wanted a foil eventually and would want to move them out as a playset, but by then the WWK was too pricy to bother with, so I just waited for years for an eventual reprint/promo, which happened with the GP Promo.SocorroTortoise wrote: ↑4 years agoYeah, I have a nonfoil WWK set as well as a foil WWK one. By that time the speculation for the card was basically at its lowest, so I grabbed my foil GP copy and at a GP decided to offload my playset for extra cash to buy other foils instead (EDH being basically my only active format when I'm active, that is).
Nothing regrettable about it, at that time I was sure SFM wouldn't be unbanned for a substantial amount of time and today I'm proven right. As mentioned before, functionally I never played with my playset before offloading it and neither have I ever thought "I wish I still had my playset to play with" ever since I sold it. Still only use 1 in EDH (which the GP Promo is still doing today) and content with it.

I use mine a lot, but I play a lot of RWx variants in addition to Boros and mono-W and she's one of the most reliable ways to get card advantage in a lot of those color combos.
I picked up my set back when they were standard legal and held on to them, because they've always seemed like a good card to have in your collection. I also play legacy occasionally (when I'm playing any tournament format) and they see pretty continuous play in that format.

It was funny when they made the argument that they couldn't unban her in modern because she limited their ability to print equipment and then made like total poop / lack of equipment for YEARS. They don't make a ton of good equipment because its over centralizing. Not because stoneforge does or does not exist.
Signature by Inkfox Aesthetics by Kelzam
Yeah, I can't see how Stoneforge would put any meaningful limits on equipment in Modern. OK, you can't print something better than Batterskull, and you can't reprint Jitte, but you wouldn't do those things anyway. Adding a new Sword of X and Y (or something at that power level or below) to the format isn't going to make much of a difference, the main combo is still going to be SFM + Batterskull.
