You know what would be awesome for next year's commander product, if they printed one deck from each of the RC. Naturally,it would have to be a deck that could work without the RL cards. The insert would be double sided to explain which RC member runs the deck,along with a link to the commander forums.

Its anoying that Wizards keep forcing some of these "political" cards. Waste of space honestly.

I like a good political card personally, but wotc's understanding of politics seems...underdeveloped.

Commander just doesn't do enough anymore.
It relies so excessively on surrounding product to make its contents count, that it does the bare minimum. Yes, past legends getting cards is phenomenal. Yes this should continue. But reprint value is scarce, the mana based leave a lot to be desired, and the product doesn't try to be innovative. This is the place we should be seeing Enchantment lands, the enemy colored Tango lands, cycles being finished, Sagas, mechanics like Ninjitsu and Bushido that are too plane flavor locked, card art that gives us glimpses of planes we love like Kamigawa, etc.

Instead, it's just a slop of Jank with generic cards and the bare minimum of Vorthos cards to make the deck passable

Dude they just did a bunch of ninjutsu in MH1, that was like 2 freaking months ago. AND commander ninjutsu just last year. How is that the mechanic you think is being underserved right now? Bushido is not impactful enough for commander to be interesting. Sagas are still in standard, wait a couple years, jeez. And tango lands are awful, I'd rather they erased them from time and space before they made five more of them. Shoulda said ODY filters, those are at least decent.

The manabase has always been the same. Which is to say - bad. But still functional. In a casual game you'll probably eventually get to cast your stuff. If you want a good manabase you're probably replacing almost every single land in the deck anyway.

Idk where you're getting "slop of jank". Most of the new cards have roles to play. The commanders are all (subjectively) cool. The overall power level of the decks is about the same as always, from what I can see. What exactly do you want innovation in? Should they print triangular cards?

Ok, I was kidding before, but now that I've said it, I want it. Make triangular cards happen wizards.

Probably thinking of Pendant of Prosperity. While I'm trying it out in Zedruu, it's not cause it's politically interesting.

Sudden Substitution, on the other hand, is very politically interesting.

I still think it's funny that I got the Edgar Markov deck for $30 and they continue to make weaker decks with less value for $40.

I got this year's decks for an average of $28.50, and there's probably better deals out there. You just need to know where to look.

Regardless of relative deck strength (imo every year is roughly equivalent in power except for 2011 - though individual decks vary), personal preference is always going to be more important than saving a couple bucks. Personally I find this year's commanders to be far more interesting than 2017, so even if I was paying retail like a chump I'd still much prefer 2019 to 2017. Though I'll agree that the price hikes are annoying.
