Can I suggest a different approach to Ravenous that doesn't make us do maths?

Sacrificial Rebuke 2WW
Instant (C)
Ravenous 2W (You may cast this spell for its ravenous cost. If you do, sacrifice a permanent as you cast it.)
Target attacking creature's controller sacrifices it.

Now I pick from one of two spelled-out costs.

I suspect the original would prompt misplays. With the card that costs 1U I'd go "oh, I can cast this! I have two mana open!", and then cast it, and then realise it actually costs 2UU if I'm not sacrificing something. Abilities like this usually provide an alternative cost (Emerge, Madness, Surge) or optional cost (Kicker, Escalate, Strive) and I think we should roll with that in card design.

The alternative would be provide a discount — the above card would have Ravenous W (You may cast this card for W less if you sacrifice a permanent as you cast it.) — but using an alternative cost is more straightforward and also has a benefit of letting us do things like this:

Word on the Streets 2U
Sorcery (U)
Ravenous 1B (You may cast this spell for its ravenous cost. If you do, sacrifice a permanent as you cast it.)
Scry 2, then draw 2 cards.

Oh wow; thank you for this!

I totally appreciate your line of argument and think this is a much more clever approach.

I'll update these cards with the suggested wording, as I think it is much more elegant and oh so useful.
