Ideas for the set I'm working on. Please keep in mind there may be other cards that grant experience counters in the environment.

Havar, the Ghostly Tinkerer U
Legendary Creature - Spirit Artificer (R)
At the beginning of each endstep, if you activated an ability of an artifact that turn, you gain an experience counter.
U, T: You may put an artifact card from your hand or graveyard onto the battlefield, Activate this ability only if you have 5 or more experience counters.
2/3

Feldora the Titan 2GG
Legendary Creature - Centaur Warrior (R)
Haste, vigilance, trample
Whenever Feldora the titan Attacks, you get an experience counter.
Feldora the Titan cost 5 less to cast and has indestructible and double strike as long as you have 5 or more experience counters.
5/5

Bodon, the Fear of Mortals 2B
Legendary Creature - Zombie Lord (R)
Whenever a creature an opponent controls dies, you get an experience counter.
At the beginning of your upkeep, if you have 5 or more experience counters, gain control of target tapped permanent from each opponent. Then untap those permanents.
4/4

The Evergrove 2W
Legendary Creature - Treefolk (R)
At the beginning of each endstep, if you control 8 or more permanents, you get an experience counter.
As longs as you have 5 or more experience counters, permanents you control have "T: You draw a card and gain 1 life."
0/8

The Faceless Lancer 1R
Legendary Creature - Elemental Knight (R)
Menace
At the beginning of each endstep, you gain an experience counter if an opponent was dealt damage that turn.
As long as you have 5 or more experience counters, nonlegendary creatures you control have myriad.

I can see the interaction between hybrid gold costs and experience counters going well since each color pair gets access to two legendaries out of the cycle.

And obviously, the easier it is to have multiple sources, the less powerful the payoff needs to be, so this is a moving target. If these were the only five cards to gain experience counters, there'd be a fair chance of evaluating them.

I kinda feel they could be enticing as partners. Hybrid is actually playing against their ability to work with each other in the format most caring about them as legendaries, but as partners they could head a deck with as little as two colors together. Hmmm.

Making them partners is a great idea!

I agree its hard to evaluate them balance-wise without knowing exactly how many other effect may grant the experience counters. Making them partners would influence the numbers for sure. My initial thought was to have a mono color uncommon cycle that would add a single counter once and have an effect based/scaling with the number of counters,
