Re: 100 Card Limit
To me, the 100 card limit is like banning wood elemental . It doesn't actually do anything, but I guess it doesn't hurt anything? What percentage of your time interacting with Commander is spent actually playing games? Between deckbuilding, general theorycrafting, forum discussions, other conversat...

Re: Lutri, the Spellchaser Preemptively Banned
Two thoughts: First: While I see the comparisons to wishes, it just doesn't hold up. It's the difference between letting a little old lady with 1 item go ahead of you in line at the checkout vs letting every and anyone do it. It's a matter of scale and scale matters. Companions (excluding the otter)...

Re: March 2020 AMA
In my (biased) opinion, it's this simple: - Flash wasn't a problem before the Hulk un-ban - Flash isn't a problem anywhere now, except C2 Flash-hulk metas - Flash isn't the problem, remove Hulk again and let us casual players keep Flash - or - ban Flash locally in your meta. The primary issue that ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Temple of the False God
I don't get why the card is particularly polarizing - Part of the reason the card is so polarizing is that it has been put in EVERY commander precon. (That may not be technically true, but it has been reprinted in every commander set, and is one of the very few cards that has been - it's in 90+% of...

Re: What factors go into rating your deck?
How much delineation is meaningful? Look, the point of rating decks is to break the decks into categories/tiers so they can play against each other and have a good game. How many tiers do you need? We have two "established" tiers to start with: Unmodified Precons cEDH cEDH is obviously the...

Re: Do you intentionally misplay/hold back?
There is literally no worse feeling to me, than coming out of a game (especially if I won, but even if not), only to have someone show their hand and mention that they had an early chance to win and just didn't take it. It very seriously invalidates the entire game for me, because we essentially pl...

Re: Curves: How often do you want a turn one play?
Efficiency is important. Curving out and out-tempoing my opponents is not necessarily. In a 1v1 setting, that's something you can do. In multiplayer, it's much harder. A large number of the 1-drops in my decks are not turn 1 plays. Swords to Plowshares Path to Exile Swan Song Nihil Spellbomb - can b...

Re: Do you intentionally misplay/hold back?
"Bad decisions make great stories" I want to win. I will try to win. But when I play standard or limited, I will search for the "correct" line of play that gives me the highest percentage of winning the game. In Commander? A lower percentage play that has a much higher chance of ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Arcane Lighthouse
I'm still blown away by people talking about Artificer's Intuition like it's a powerhouse. It's not better than Survival of the Fittest and is barely in the same league. It's not ridiculous. It's a niche card that can be powerful if built around, but requires a massive deck building requirement to m...

Your life total can't change, but if you break the protections damage prevention (like with Questing Beast), you can receive poison counters and be killed through infect damage.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Skinshifter
If you don't have your commander out (Doran), it's still a 4/4 trampler that cost 1G with a G every turn cost, which is not nothing. Still not worth playing, but not a total blank. It's a neat idea but the implementation simply doesn't work. It's too fragile. It's supposed draw is it's cost, but the...

[mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Prohibit
You seem to have this false ideal that you need to be tapping out every turn while not catching that said birds you're protecting pay for half the cost of the prohibit that's saving them from the aforementioned bolt that otherwise spelled their doom. If I am excited to have the birds in order to ha...

[mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Prohibit
And it's totally acceptable to counter that early lightning bolt to protect that birds of paradise. It really is. Expecting to have 2 mana untapped when my bird gets bolted seems presumptuous. Unless I'm sitting around with mana to spare, in which case, why do I care if my bird gets bolted? This ca...

[mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Teferi's Response
What I was surprised to see is that Strip Mine is only in 10% of EDHRec's decks from the past 2 years, Ghost Quarter is in 9% and none of the other land killing lands cracked the top list. I won't build a deck without an answer to a problematic land, but it seems people like me are a much smaller m...

Re: Rafiq way to go
I think you are asking the wrong questions. Well, not that any questions are "wrong", but I think there is a more productive way to think about the process of building. Don't start with a 'which cardtype synergies should I focus on mentality'. Focus on the goals of the deck, and how best t...
