Re: Hazezon, Shaper of Sand - Traversing the Desert

Sandwurm Convergence might be a funny on theme answer to fliers but it's pretty pricey mana wise. :D I have lately been playing Elder Gargaroth and Vorinclex // The Grand Evolution and these two have been great at deterring fliers. Not really great in this deck which might be more interested in Ulv...

Re: [SCD] Pip-Boy 3000

I'm not sure you need a 1 drop to get the value off Pip-Boy anyway. If you have a 2 drop (again, not that many decks running 10+ 2 drop creatures) and play and equip it on turn 3, it's still fairly dubious. Underperforming Cultivate at a pretty high rate is not a good place to be for an equipment. ...

Re: [SCD] Pip-Boy 3000

The thing people always miss on these cards ( Sword of the Animist is another typical one) is it requires you to have a creature out before you cast it otherwise you're taking an entire turn off. Or a creature with haste. Equally less common than people think. So is it great in Ragavan, Nimble Pilfe...

Re: Hazezon, Shaper of Sand - Traversing the Desert

Bygone Bishop might be worth cutting. I never really checked before, but I do only have 13 creatures that can trigger it. Man I apologize for bishop, in my head it was "creature 3 or less ETBs" like Tocasia's Welcome template. It's so hard to keep track of all that! Perhaps Titania, Prote...

Re: Hazezon, Shaper of Sand - Traversing the Desert

Nice. I think Nylea's Intervention really is great gas for this deck. Get a bunch of deserts, cycle them, play them. Solid. I think between Purph and Finale of Devastation you probably have enough ways to close it out. I suspect Shared Animosity would be the most efficient alternate wincon but it la...

Re: Hazezon, Shaper of Sand - Traversing the Desert

Thanks! I did play a game with this new list and it worked out really well in general. Up until the UR player comboed off with Thousand-Year Storm and Expropriate.... I think it was like turn 6 or so too. I been adding Pyroblast to most of my red decks these days :D Anyway, I had this great plan wi...

Re: Hazezon, Shaper of Sand - Traversing the Desert

Yeah I didn't mean henge as a specific include more of a general comment.

I think rob is waaaaay worse because it's only this turn. The resolve and impulse last til next turn. This is awesome.

Generally think that is a strong changeset!

For me, I run a good deal of protection You mean stuff like Tamiyo's Safekeeping and such? Do you have a list of cards you run? Re: Shaolin Stampede: Jeskai Go-Wide Enchantress

I just wanted to say that the ramp package in this deck is a thing of beauty :) Starnheim Courser and Cloud Key and so on with carefully chosen enchantments to maximize. One thing I'll say is I think Starfield Mystic is likely an upgrade over courser (and could potentially both be added). In my expe...

Re: Hazezon, Shaper of Sand - Traversing the Desert

Speaking of Tireless Tracker, I wonder if I am overvaluing Tireless Provisioner. The Treasures are absolutely nice to have, but I might need to put a bigger focus on getting cards to play versus have the mana to play them. I am likely getting enough lands that the Treasures may become superfluous? ...

Re: Hazezon, Shaper of Sand - Traversing the Desert

Nice updates. Oh I know this is gonna sound obvious but what about Gamble for Life from the Loam ? Loam cycling deserts should be a solid backup ca plan and gambling for a desert feels kinda fun and thematic. Regarding monarch I feel like this deck is likely soft to fliers to want to introduce it. C...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Back to Basics

The issue I have with b2b is that it primarily punishes properly designed budget mana bases in multicolor decks very badly. So you end up with some dudes three color deck with tons of cheap duals getting annihilated while fetchy McGee fetches basics. I just don't like playing things that mess with p...

Re: Hazezon, Shaper of Sand - Traversing the Desert

What do you think about Nylea's Intervention ? Feels like getting a grip full of deserts might be the best thing you can do with X mana. I was also thinking and I suspect that Titania's Command will outperform Tempt with Discovery a pretty significant amount of the time given that it pays a premium ...

I'm visiting Japan for just under two weeks. Checking it off my wife's bucket-list. I'm only a day in but it's really cool so far. Going to hang out in Tokyo until next week and then Osaka the next week. Hoping to see some Cherry Blossoms today. Magic the Gathering going to be fairly sidelined for ...

Re: Queen Breena's Full Contact Politics

Just a sad note that I am likely abandoning this deck. Two major issues keep cropping up: * Inability to compete with counterspell decks; counterspell decks have a particular play pattern of encouraging people to attack me, and then countering my combat shenanigans. This play pattern is miserable. I...

Re: God-Eternal Oketra

re: ramp One thing I will re about "rocks" is Gold Myr and Palladium Myr have been super strong for me. Ups the creature count for late game and palladium in particular brings oketra out two whole turns early. I think these are probably right to play in most oketra builds. The less convent...

Definitely consider adding Brought Back btw, narset being able to hit it and bring back fetchlands is pretty amazing. You can fetch fetch, brought back, then next turn do it again :D More fetches you run the better here, ofc.

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

Man this control build of Ephara is absolutely a riot to play. It takes a while, but I'm getting faster and faster at managing the triggers. I went absolutely off last night; Illustrious Wanderglyph got to show up, and unfortunately immediately died, but I was able to chase it with Stenn, Paranoid P...

Re: Thrasios and Tormod's Field of the Dead

I managed to squeeze tortoise in by just cutting Reshape the Earth which is way too expensive and less fun. :D The issue I find with azusa effects is they require a second piece to be good (loam or whatever). I do like Oracle better and would play it first. That said, y'all should try Druid Class --...

Have you considered Blossoming Tortoise ? It always does work for me and it would fuel Field of the Dead and trigger Tormod, the Desecrator I in fact have a Blossoming Tortoise in my box ready to try to slot in next time I work on the deck :D It suffers from being a creature but it also is really e...

I think most casual people would flip the hell out if you got 2 lands and nothing else and cast Balancing Act :D If it's against more aggressive cutthroat players I doubt they give a crap since they should be expecting to defend against counterspell-only questions. basically for me, this is a deck f...

Re: Thrasios and Tormod's Field of the Dead

Is Reshape the Earth really all that? I see it in several lands lists but gosh the mana cost seems high. Interestingly I have run into a crapload of times where Titania's Command would have outperformed it. Reshape the Earth definitely is there for "I make field and 9 zombies right now, and th...
