Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)
Waaay too deep my friend. Just start with the cards and decks mentioned. Not at all, I already play x2 Betrayal and x2 Engineer with good success. I would literally only be adding 1-2 cards to my board. And if it sounds to narrow (because it is), it also stops equipment from attaching to things (se...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)
As odd as it might sound, March of the Machines is probably pretty good against them if you can untap into Verdict. Add Night of Soul's Betrayal and you're leaving them with very little to play with. You're using state based effects to shut off all their artifacts with 0cmc, then 1cmc with Betrayal....

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)
I would guess that this type of talk is just to drum up emotions. There is no data to support a single ban, much less three.
I still think the deck is probably manageable, but it's a tough manageable.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)
Any card that requires a critter to connect to the opponent's face [mention]robertleva[/mention], I think you're misreading the card. The creature does not need to hit the opponent, it needs to do any combat damage to anything. I hope that subtle difference is all it takes to convince you it should...

Re: Stoneforge Mystic + Fervent Champion + Swords + What else?
Not sure if this is a dead topic or not but if you go with Junktroller , Sunforger , and Master Warcraft you will always be able to connect with your opponent or on the flip side they can never attack you. Just keep putting Warcraft on the bottom of your library with Troller and spam Sunforger activ...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
So... the jury is still out in Drown in the Loch? Seems like we have a mix of "it's amazing" and "it's not great". I still haven't played the card, I'm letting Friday drafts supply it for me in the long run. I think we need to talk about what decks it's specifically good against ...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
nod to @BloodyRabbit 's list (which I am certain folds to a resolved T3feri) I'm not even jamming Esper Control these days. The list was an example to what I would play. The point is, compared to most lists I saw on this thread, it's by far the most reliable against T3feri, cause it plays a full se...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
I actually don't think I would play a 2cmc counter right now... Drown is a contender, but I don't have them yet. If they gave me Counterspell today though? I might not want it. Between Guile, Push, Path, and Verdict I don't much about what resolves unless it's a Walker and those usually cost enough ...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
You can probably get away with it going for 3 Charm : 1 FoF to see how the card feels. Guy at my LGS doesn't want to shell out for JtMS so he plays a single FoF instead and loves it. He's on UW though, not brave enough to take the Black.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)
She's a really good walker but far from bannable. Suffice to say, things exist that fight her adequately. I'm glad Wren can be hit with celestial purge , the same way purge hits liliana and bob.. as these three cards are often found together in jund style decks. Exiling does not add to the size of ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)
I don't think Wren is that bad in Modern. I can see the irritation in Legacy with Wasteland, but I haven't lost to a Wren emblem yet despite facing off with three of them.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)
I started watching some replays of people playing the PO version. It does seems a bit over the top. I also agree that banning Opal doesn't really do much here, this is an Urza issue (IF Whirza, PO or otherwise, becomes an issue). Opal is only making the deck a turn faster, while that's incredibly go...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
How would you recommend not "basically conced[ing] to a resolved Teferi, Time Raveler"? Apart from the awesome tech that are Red or Green annoying things, I haven't found much that works well. And naturally those are out of our colors. I guess I would add a Sphinx to that list, but he cost...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
Anyone tested with Drown in the Loch yet? I've played with it a little and I think it's pretty good. I don't think it's a 4 of, and I'm not sold on playing Thought Scour for it, I think it more likely that something like 3 Path, 1-2 Push, and 2-3 Drown is better. I haven't played it, but I feel lik...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)
I am about to delete my account due to all this Twin BS. The same people repeating the same arguments for 5 years. Why don't you focus on today's metagame and how its evolving. Drown in the Loch and Emry might be format warping. There is now a legit reason to play Grixis or Esper over UW control. I...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)
On a minor thing. Really excited for the eldraine castle lands, I think they will add a little spice to certain modern decks that can support having at least one of them. :) Regardless of what I believe the power level of the land cycles are in Eldraine, I was really pumped to see the design space ...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
I ran back the same list I posted last in this thread. Went 3-1 tonight. R1, Spirits: I died horribly in G1 to like 3 lords on T4 or 5. G2 I had too much removal and managed to lock him out of the game with Engineer + Betrayal. G3 kept Jace alive long enough to -12 with Betrayal and T3feri doing mos...

I'm probably gonna try and bite the bullet and either get the three non promo copies of sfm I need or just trade my non promo one and other stuff into a set of promos. Will they drop much from here? SFM is seeing literally no ply in my area. I'd be pretty weary picking them up before seeing them pe...

Could you guys get off of the ban talk for mox opal ? "Si vis pacem, para bellum" The format is good, we're preparing for when it's not good. That's what the state of Modern is and thus the derived purpose of this thread. You can look back through the dozens of past threads on Salvation a...

It's a big thumbs down from me. Unless it breaks Neoform or enables something amazing in Standard, it doesn't really have a home. I think this is a big miss for Tron. I'm not familiar with Amulet Titan, but maybe this does something there? I know they're very creature and land based. Edit: Maybe I c...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)
I highly doubt Whirza gets a ban. Slower artifact decks have always been subject to the wide variety of artifact sweepers in every color except black. There's the targeted removal to boot, but that's mostly just buying time against Whirza. I think if we see a Whirza take over, the non-Whirza players...

Re: [Poll] Is your wallet fatigued in this format?
My spending on MtG has slowly trended downward as Modern has aged. I think that's a signal of an eternal format, to be honest. I only need a few things here and there to keep up. I spent about $50 on ELD prereleases because I know the drafters will leave all their uncommons and commons at the tables...
