Re: Dynamics of Brawl vs EDH (If not limited by rotation)

Planeswalkers as commanders will likely slow the format down. Most walkers are slowish value engines, so people playing planeswalkers will be incentivized to slow the game down - either by running more board wipes, or cards like Stasis or Humility . More answers to planeswalkers will be played, suc...

Re: Dynamics of Brawl vs EDH (If not limited by rotation)

The main thing I liked about Brawl was being able to play planeswalkers (any) as your commander. I think if you took it to it's limit with competitive play, most games are not lasting more than 4 turns, as there is just such explosive starts with the chances of drawing fast accelerants and combo pie...

Re: Esper value makers

In Esper there are a lot of ways to draw cards statically but not many ways to gain mana. Card draw for example; Consecrated Sphinx , Nezahal, Primal Tide , Ever-Watching Threshold , Verity Circle . Mana is trickier, Black Market and Waste Not can do it but sometimes requires you to force opponents ...

Re: Once Upon a Time vs Land Grant

It's hard to evaluate cards like Once Upon a Time in Commander as they just have such a different scope than 60 card/4 of a card decks. Obviously there is a bit of hype around it for those constructed formats, because it's ability to find you exact cards you need are extremely high, where in Command...

Artifacts used to have brown frames, but anything that is colorless that can counter spells is a bit of a surprise for opponents;
Kozilek, the Great Distortion, Warping Wail, Null Brooch, Not of This World, Nullstone Gargoyle are all cards that I've used before.

Re: Yawgmoth, Thran Physician - The Power to Proliferate

All Hail Yawgmoth! Great deck! It's crazy that so many people presented him as underwhelming yet he seems like such a powerful and persistent commander (no pun intended). One card that I don't think you've talked about is Liliana of the Veil . All 3 modes of that card seem relevant with the ultimat...

Re: How much skill is in the Commander format?

I'm not a constructed player very often, and part of why I'm not is that I think the graph for play skill is rather short. There aren't that many major decks. There aren't that many commonly-played spells to consider when making plays. There's only one person to think about. You only have your own,...

Re: How much skill is in the Commander format?

One thing that is missing on a top level in Commander is intricate combat math combined with playing with or around combat tricks. Some of you might argue this, and state that with more creatures on the battlefield there is more to deal with. Don't get me wrong I've had a large army and had to work ...

How much skill is in the Commander format?

I've noticed a discussion in a thread and it touches upon the argument that some cards = "instant win". This sort of discussion also brought up the subject of skill level. I just wanted to hear people's perspective on how much of winning is due to the strength of a deck and how much of it is based o...

Re: Anje Falkenrath is a Fail as Commander

I mean even with the all Madness cards, it still has a massive fail rate. Any land for example is going to stop the train, and so you only get to go through so much of your deck through the course of turns. I designed a Vampire tribal deck https://www.mtgnexus.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=9224 so there ...

Re: Bant Puzzles

You can setup to do puzzle solving Birthing Pod toolbox build. Often it depends on the strengths of your opponents decks. Are they creature decks or spell slinger or control? Based on these I would sequence out (multiple times in a turn to get desired results), for instance getting Academy Rector in...

i feel that korvold has the option to do infinites although i can only think of two right now. Re: Korvold, Fae-Cursed King - Bring me gifts that I can eat!

Just a few tiny changes. I've found myself still ALWAYS wanting a creature sacrifice outlet in play to get value out of my creatures. It feels so bad to setup a massive board and not get value when an opponents casts a wrath effect for example. There is always one or two every game. So adding Phyrex...

Hall of Heliod's Generosity for putting enchantments on top that might get randomly discarded, i.e. it insures that you get the enchantment you want. Starfield of Nyx also can be leveraged this way from discarded or removed enchantments. The Mirari Conjecture can get back instants or sorcery that y...

Re: Feather the Redeemed - Legions of a Feather Flicker Together

Thank you so much for this spectacular primer! I would suggest a small combo for the "Steal Opponents Creatures" section: if we target a stolen creature with anyone of our blink effect, that creature returns onto the battlefield under it's owner control. But Cloudshift is a very weird exception: if...

Congrats on becoming an official Primer :) Frenetic Sliver for Chance Encounter. Also Okaun, Eye of Chaos and Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom , I've had Okaun attacking me for 12,288 which I think is 13 won coin flips. The thing is that with both of them in play you get a lot of shots. Have you looked at Happily Ever After as another win condition? I was watching an "against the odds" standard deck using this and it's using Planewide Celebration as a way to meet the conditions. Interestingly Planewide Celebration can help with a lot of your other win conditions as well. You can pr...

Re: Zacama, Primal Calamity - Big Mana, Big Draw...Everybody Fear the Dinosaur

First of all, thank you so much for the content and the primer, I found it really very useful, inspiring and definitely a deck and a commander that I want to try in a semi-competitive environment. Having said that I would have a question: in the primer you often talk about closing in a single turn ...

Re: Overused Cards in EDH

On the topic of the double mana bounce lands, for years I NEVER played tapped lands. And even to this day a tapped land has to do something really special for my deck to warrant their inclusion. But my foray into Commander was always heavily focused on "draw and mana", so hitting land drops was neve...

Interestingly I was watching a stream that had Irencrag Pyromancer in a standard deck that was using extra draw to trigger it. With Mayhem Devil actually being waaay better than I thought it was going to be, winning me some games, there is a case for Irencrag Pyromancer being a shut out for opponen...

Re: Korvold, Fae-Cursed King - Bring me gifts that I can eat!

Gladly! Evangel has underperformed in my experience with Mazirek, given how he's a one-shot, demands a bunch of weak tokens to work, and doesn't protect against wraths, so I found myself leaning towards repeatable outlets. Actually I made these changes and it worked out really well. As you pointed ...

All is dust is a solid include. From TED, have you considered Mad Ratter ? He's been able to make two tokens each turn for me, given a free sac outlet (which I've included more of. Spawning Pit and Yahenni are great for tanking boardwipes or removal. Very strong card. With a sacrifice outlet you ca...

Got my hands on Korvold and finally been giving him a spin. As per usual lots of re-gigging after my initial build, but on the whole great commander and great deck off-the-bat. I've expanded on the things that worked the best and World Shaper along with the tons of sacrifice lands mean't I had a rea...

Re: Underused Cards in EDH

Null Chamber (42 decks, yes the answer to the Universe) - You can use politics to name an opponent (who agrees with you) and both of you name the other two players commanders. Mana Maze (414 decks) - Has to be in the right deck, but if you have lots of cheap instants you can really stop opponents f...
