Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

I honestly do not see much potential application for Shadowspear. The activated ability seems to narrow for Modern (besides the case that you have some Bogles players in your meta).

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

That said, I do of course have a few discussion points. Has anyone come to a conclusion on the correct number of Drown in the Loch to play? Is Mystical Dispute still worth sideboard slots? Is anyone planning to run more copies of Field of Ruin for the Field of the Dead matchups? (Amulet is in a gre...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

Now that some mighty cards got hammered yesterday, I honestly feel that UWx Control might regain some of its former power. We do not have to jump through several burning wheels in order to handle Oko, and the fact that Urza decks got nerfed is just icing on the cake. Sure, Veil of Summer is still ou...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

So T3f nullifies Veil of Summer 100%. Maybe we should start rocking the full playset in the 75. I am currently playing a 4c Copycat list running 4 T3f, and I can say that he is awesome in the current meta since he also functions as removal (he is great vs. Death's Shadow for instance). EDIT: Okay ma...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

[...] but apparently that was OP, so they went with the +1: You Win the Game. And also Life. I think that comment is a tad over the top :P But I get your point, he instantly creates value and is nearly unkillable via damage. I guess in a meta in which we are expecting Oko, we should run some clean ...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

The biggest problem with being on Esper right now is veil of summer. When people expect control or Jund to be around they side 3ish of these and it feels really bad. That's why I dropped off of Esper, everyone at my LGS started siding 3-4 Veils and it just became very unfun to play against real fas...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

To awake this thread from its slumber: What is your guys opinion on Esper's positioning right now? IMO and to my experience, we kinda struggle vs. Urza and Oko decks, for the latter I am planning to pack 1-2 Nixious Grasp in the side. However, Field of the Dead seems rough for us, any ideas to handl...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

Hi folks, didn't post for a while, but I spontaneously decided to bring my take on Esper Control to a 7 round 68 player tournament yesterday (opting for the control deck instead of my Izzet Breach list). I want to share a quick report on the matchups and my list. Bear in mind that I didn't know the ...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

Mystical is to situational imo, for 3 mana if its not targetting blue spell its expensive over many other spells. However, Dispute counters many key spells such as Oko and Urza. And it has many other applications, for instance in control mirrors. I like it so far, but I guess it depends on your met...

Re: [Deck] Blue Moon / Izzet Breach

[mention]BloodyRabbit[/mention] Nice Results, man! And fine list, too. Is there a reason for not playing Blood Moon, especially with meta decks like Tron around? Have you considered The Royal Scions, yet?

Re: [Deck] Azorius Control

Why does Terminus look busted right now in your opinion? I think it looked particularly good vs. Hoogak and Dredge and stuff, but these times are over for now.

Re: [Deck] Azorius Control

I am with Bearscape on this one. Another thing I want to point out is that you virtually play 5 BSkull in the main, whereas Lyra and Baneslayer are 1-ofs. So in case you need a lifelinker, SFM makes that very easy to accomplish whereas you have to dig for you 1-ofs. The tutor effect on SFM is what m...

Re: [Deck] Jeskai Control

I expect Tron to rise again, against which Jeskai Control is typically the inferior deck. So I guess it depends on meta and adaptations one is willing to make to fight Tron, Eldrazi and so on.

Re: [Deck] Azorius Control

IMHO SfM has nothing to do with control. One can adapt the classification from Legacy: Control (i.e. Miracles) vs. Stoneblode lists. Sure, they share a common card pool, but differ in some important points, most prominently the win conditions and pace of game. Stoneblade is much more proactive.

So, how are we incorporating SFM into UW Control?
We don't IMHO. Far too weak for this deck, especially as a wincon. BSkull on turn 3? Yeah have fun with that :P

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

I am looking for Versions of the deck for after the potential Hogaak (PLEASE) from today. Has anybody been thinking about that yet? I think you can just go on playing the current Esper and UW lists as they are, cutting down on gravehate in the SB. IMO nothing in the current lists is 100% dedicated ...

Re: [Deck] Blue Moon / Izzet Breach

I have run Blue Moon to a fairly acceptable success at last week's FNM. If you are interested, you can find the list here (I would appreciate every form of feedback on this one, pls consider that the SB is tailored to my local meta): https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2176918#paper However, my main co...

Re: [Deck] Azorius Control

Yeah I feel the same regarding Mentor. I think the good old Geist of Saint Traft might fulfil this need better since it is also a tough card to beat in the control mirror. Creaturewise, I currently run 2 Cliques (next to Baneslayer) in the side which is awesome versus so many decks, including tron p...

I don't like Surgical vs Etron much, honestly. They can function completely fine without assembling tron and it's yet another card to get locked behind Chalice. I tend to board them out.
Yes you are right. But versus GTron they are very useful.

Re: [Deck] Azorius Control

That what bearscape says. Still, If you are expecting a lot of Phoenix Surgical main is still decent since they are threat light. Versus grave decks such as Dredge und Hoogak, I am not a bug fan of one shot grave hate. In those MUs, as bearscape said, you might want more solid hate which btw they ca...

Re: [Deck] Azorius Control

Tried the Winds of Abandon last Friday and it was great. Felt good to have the flexibility to use it as a boardwipe if needed. Would you guys say that the surgical extraction is a must have in the mainboard? I don't have it right now and thinking of buying into it. Also 2 or 3 FoN? @Extraction: IMO...

Re: [Deck] Blue Moon / Izzet Breach

Nice list, idSurge! I am interested in trying out Blue Moon. I am wondering though whether it is viable in the current Modern meta. What are good and bad matchups for the deck? What is the strategy in these MUs? Also, how do you think about adding PWs to the deck? I have seen Jace and Ral in some si...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

Right, one should not confuse Esper Mentor with Esper control, which is an unique deck on its own. Since I tried out Esper Mentor, a control shell rocking mentor as one wincon is more appealing to me.

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

A similar list recently 5-0ed online: https://www.tcdecks.net/deck.php?id=31207&iddeck=267027 I am gonna give it a run at next week's FNM. I was sceptical at first, too. The list borrows a lot from its Legacy counterpart. I am curious how it runs out. I think Terminus is very well positioned rig...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

You know it's Wafo-Tapa when you see four Drowned Catacombs  Missing Think Twice though.

I partially dislike his approach, too many cryptics, charms and guiles for my taste. And I think you want at least a couple of pushes.
