Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Triskaidekaphile

I remember when alternative wincons used to be HARD. Like, achievement unlocked hard. Those were better times. I also remember when Azure Mage was a decent card. Now we've just got an alt wincon stapled onto it. This could actually be semi-interesting if you had to draw the cards through other mean...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Glen Elendra Archmage

I love Glen Elendra so much.

I have a little wizard package of:
Snapcaster Mage
Glen Elendra Archmage
Sower of Temptation
Venser, Shaper Savant
Riptide Laboratory

that I try to play in every deck with blue.

Re: SCD: Demonic Tutor

I respect your disagreement with my opinions. But the rest of your post does not do anything to explain your stance on those two points. 1. Flash didn't get banned because it was breaking casual games. It was banned because it was being used in the most optimized way possible at the highest level o...

Re: SCD: Demonic Tutor

Efficient tutors are really strong and can almost be evaluated like combo pieces. Flash may be a good analogue. Mundane in casual games, but overpowered in competitive games. Efficient tutors are just fine when tutoring answers or engines. It all depends on how you play them. 1.) Demonic Tutor cost...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The Filter Lands

These lands are super solid in several of my builds. My 5c Esika, God of the Tree // The Prismatic Bridge really wants to hit 1GG turn 3 and these do a great job enabling that. Extra points for Mana Reflection synergy. So so good with Mana Reflection :) Like the ravnica signets Shoe in for any 2 co...

Re: Krosan Grip in 2023

Isn't Aetherflux enough of a reason to include this when possible? I don't need to have the lowest casting cost all of the time because of the power level I currently play in, so this has been an auto-include for me. My playgroup is still adjusting to responding to triggers/abilities and not just sp...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Evolution Sage

Outside the commander I've been told this is the scariest low end drop in Fynn, the Fangbearer . I play low power EDH with my non-LGS playgroup. We regularly play since it's a work playgroup so we know each others' decks and share/give cards. There is usually at least one instance of poison counter...

Re: [SCD] Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary

My feelings on unbanning Rofellos have changed. I would like for him to be unbanned now. Sure, it'd be cool to play him as my commander. However, my thoughts on Rofellos and why he is banned remain the same. 1.) I don't consider playing mono-green and overly building around forests to be deck constr...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Jace, the Mind Sculptor

Jace, TMS + Oracle of Mul Daya is my jam! I pretty much always play Jace, TMS when I play blue. All the things they say about Jace TMS are true. But I still play it regularly and it always does way more than my opponents ever expect. At the end of the day, the context of the game and what your oppon...

Everyone be hating on my boys in here. All these words like "useless" and "awful" being thrown around. Bringer of the Black Dawn played so well in my High CMC deck that I actually slotted in Bringer of the Blue Dawn . I'd like introduce all of you to Grozoth . I run a delightful...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Phyrexian Arena

I blame Black Market Connections for the down tick in Arena. Still not gonna stop me playing my Japanese Apocalypse version though. Playing a card because you want to is always the best reason to play any card. I also have a Japanese copy that I play whenever I have a black commander, but a Phyrexi...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Skrelv, Defector Mite

In Sram (auras), having hexproof instead of protection is nice. Now, I can effectively give protection from StP and PtE without losing the stack of crappy white enchantments I've built on top of Sram. It goes in for sure if I ever come around to getting cards again. Starting to play again after 3 ye...

Re: Thalia and The Gitrog Monster

T&GM having first strike and deathtouch is the unique thing they provide, I am not going to even be swinging for the card most of the time myself. Imagine playing a 1-of Lure just for fun. :) I mean every card is a 1-of, but it's a unique effect. And you can make it a secret achievement. As muc...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mystic Snake

I used to play Mystic Snake in my Momir Vig (elf+wizard tribal) deck. I would still play it, because I do not cut cards due to power creep. I still play a lot of the older cards because I like to use original borders. However, Frilled Mystic being both an elf AND!!! a wizard overwhelmingly lead me t...

Re: Thalia and The Gitrog Monster

I think you underestimate the centralizing effect of an extra land drop ability in the command zone. Normally with such effects you have to play a ton of them to see them consistently enough to take advantage of them. TATGM remove this burden and while some degree of redundancy is acceptable, I thi...

Re: Let's Brew Thalia and The Gitrog Monster: Man I Love Frogs

Life gain is important when you're activating up to 3 ferchlands a turn. If you want to play Overgrown Estates, it's now or never. It would be nice to have a life gain payoff but that's tough to stay on theme. I imagine Academy Rector into an enchantment could be nice. Exploration is the Sol Ring/Ma...

Re: Let's Brew Thalia and The Gitrog Monster: Man I Love Frogs

Strip Mine and Wasteland recursion wins a lot of games.

I also second life gain. When you are activating 2 fetchlands a turn, life loss adds up.

Re: Let's end Maze's End

The problem isn't speed or power level, that's what we've been saying, the problem is that it has a tiny attack surface, so while racing a Maze's end deck is totally a valid option, it's also the ONLY option for most decks, and I, for one, would rather the format slow down, not speed up. In my post...

Re: Let's end Maze's End

Seems like a job for Ruination . This is quality DirkBait©, but in all seriousness how do we stop the maze? Is it really only stifles and perfectly-timed wastelands? How do you beat a deck where +33% of its lands come into play tapped? There's always going to be a speed limit on Maze's End because ...

Re: Favorite strategy in the format?

I tend to build around doing a certain thing(s) rather than a particular strategy. But my favorite decks to play are Toolbox decks. I see my Lands.dec as more toolbox-y than ramp-y. I like feeling like I have something for everything and it's puzzle-solving without being a combo deck (which I like t...

Re: Let's end Maze's End

I don't really see the difference in losing to a turn 7 Scapeshift into Maze's End vs a turn 7 Craterhoof Behemoth / Overwhelming Stampede . Even post CLB there's no reason to play Gates other than for Maze's End purposes so the card comes with a huge downside too. And if it's really causing proble...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Amulet of Vigor

Cool card but hard to use in EDH since there is no redundancy. ...but I thought that this was a feature to be cherished deeply in elder dragon HIGHLANDER ! So much so that there is a great disdain for tutors. I've got it in my fairly janky build of 5c Lands, where it does work. Not essential...

Re: Combos With Everything (Earthcraft and Ashnod's)

Do these cards really keep breaking with every "new" set? Or is design space just finite, and sooner or later WotC just prints a semi functional reprint or rehash an old card? For example, Viscera Seer is just 2nd copy of Carrion Feeder. Reveillark another Karmic Guide. Deceiver Exarch = P...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Planewide Celebration

4x Counters for all your PW's is quite a get from a single card.

I use this in my type 4 stack, where the incidental life gain makes the card pretty legit.

Why is this card still $15.
is 10x the price. And not as good or even as cool.

So this is a deal...? Like are you saying that it should be even more expensive... /s
