Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Samwise the Stouthearted
This Sam is pretty boring. It's a pretty narrow regrowth with the Ring tempts tacked on. Probably has some use in a dedicated Hobbit deck or dedicated Ring deck, though those both kind of suck. As for the Teshar loop, just one of many and not the most useful on its own nor most well suited to the ro...

Re: Aether Rift [scd]
Madness also works against this because a lot of madness cards aren't creatures, which limits the hits, and if you choose to exile madness creatures to be able to cast them then you can't get the opportunity to free fast them. Basically, why not run a discard outlet you can control and which also ac...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I gotta be honest, I'm not feeling the cowboy setting at all. This, New Capenna, and even the last Ravnica set with its goofy old timey detectives just seem to much like Un sets in terms of their setting.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Grave-Shell Scarab
Yeah, I could definitely see it playing well in Henzie, 5 mana to attack with a 4/4 haste and draw 2 cards (one from blitz the other from sac) and then dredge it to repeat. Unfortunately, the dredge to repeat costs you a draw so you really only see one extra card per turn. If you've cast Henzie a fe...

Re: Ruhan, a breakdown
I've built Thantis before myself, and in terms of forcing attacks Thantis is better at it. In the Ruhan deck I have to find the cards that force attacks. There's a fair number of them so it's not really a problem, but it's not in the CZ like with Thantis. Playing the Ruhan deck, it's less all in on ...

Ruhan, a breakdown
Ruhan of the Fomori Infamous giant of poor threat assessment, Ruhan is one divisive chonker. In a vacuum, lets be honest, he sucks. Ruhan does, however, have a lot of interesting aspects once you break him down that serve as inspirations for decks, so I'll start with his features and then move into...

Re: Mangara Mono White Control
Nice suggestions on cards. I actually used to run the Knight of the White Orchid style cards but cut them over time. I have Keeper in there because he can repeatedly find lands if one of my opponents is ramping a lot, but the other ones surprisingly didn't pull their weight. The curve of this deck i...

Re: How do you approach deck building?
First thing I do is figure out what I want to do with the deck. Why am I building this deck? What experience do I want, how do I want it to play, how is it supposed to win, what is the overall strategy? Maybe I'm building it because I want to use a specific commander, maybe I'm building it because I...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Voice of Resurgence
Tandris, at her cost with this ability, would have been a fairly neat but not OP commander, while this creature with her ability instead would have been a fair support card.
Dragons Maze was such a a mistake of a set.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Krosan Restorer
She's absurdly good in decks that can support her. If you regularly can get 7 cards in your yard, then even just untapping three basics is a solid rate, and she becomes bonkers once you start untapping multiple lands that produce multiple mana each. One important thing about this class of cards more...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Pariah
Keep in mind that it's also useable as a removal spells that can be recurred with Sun Titan. Enchant an opponents important creature, deal yourself damage to kill it, attack with Sunny Tits, get it back on something else you want to kill.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Pariah
Pariah enables Charmin soft locks, which are completely fair. My favorite goofy interaction though is to combo Pariah with a creature that has the Jackal Pup effect, then give it indestructible. With no other intervention it draws the game. If you've got a Sanguine Bond out or give it lifeline thoug...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Gandalf the White
WOTC put the most iconic wizard of all time into a game about playing as a wizard, took SIX PASSES at him and every single one is a forgettable snooze fest. The fact that there are six of them make it so much worse, but I've ranted about this subject before so I'll stop myself there. 👎👎 There was a...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Capricious Efreet
It's slow, but fun. You can easily make the permanent you own be something you don't care about using or something you would benefit from getting destroyed. iMO it's too slow for a 75% meta, but it's good for more casual metas, where these odd effects can really shine and create great games. I'd rea...

Re: Brainstorming: Winning with Grouphug
I have a Grixis group hug deck that does well (Vial Smasher and Ludevic), and I've seen the 4 color group hug guy do well. Group hug that actually tries to win does so a couple ways. First, it doesn't hand out all kinds of resources, it picks one or two kinds of resources to hand out and avoids hand...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Kasla, the Broken Halo
Unlike her, she's a unique way to do a commander focused on a keyword. She does have the basic "do x, draw a card" but that's only part of her design. She herself having convoke and a solid combination of stars and keywords means she benefits from running the tokens/weenies you'd want to r...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Necrotic Hex
I'd rank Dead of winter above DCU all day. It's 3 mana and fairly easy to just run a bunch of snow lands to make it do what you need to do when you need it to. Tegwylls Scouring is worth the extra mana, not only does it leave you with three faeries it lets you cast it with flash in the right decks. ...

Re: Trouble in Pairs - SCD
I think the flavor is that the caster has ensorcelled some of the less savory elements in the oppositions employ, so that when two of them get together without anyone else they steal stuff for the caster. Dirks right, it's dumb. My bigger problem is the art though, it sucks, and unfortunately it's a...

Re: The One Ring
I don't care about cEDH and it's health, at all. I care about the card's impact in casual, and on mtgo it's everywhere. When it's played, the game immediately becomes about the Ring. It either comes down early and just takes over from the jump or it lands in conjunction with a board reset and takes ...

Re: Trouble in Pairs - SCD
Awesome card, full stop. For mono white or Boros it's great. I've had a lot of success with Mangara as a commander for mono white, he draws a solid amount of cards and lets mono white control actually perform. A big part of his value comes from being always accessible, but this is harder to remove, ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Necrotic Hex
How is Deadly Cover Up phenomenal? It's 5 mana day of judgement. It's not bad, but it's definitely behind Toxic Deluge, Damnation, and Mutilate (in most decks), and that's just off the top of my head. There's a bunch of spells that cost one more and are either situationally much better or which prov...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Helm of the Host
It's really good, it's just not really good everywhere. The baseline is that it's an expensive clone, but an expensive clone that pretty much needs to be immediately answered. It's 9 mana, but really being split in two does matter because you can split it over two turns, and more importantly each si...
