Ugh, I hate Universes Beyond, but have you SEEN Power Fist? Trample and increasing amounts of +1/+1 counters seems like a good thing.

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
Did we talk about our mutual Redwall childhood pasttime?? Because I spent a ton of time as a young girl reading and rereading Taggerrung. It's strange, I feel like it's been seconds since Murder at Karlov Manor came out, and yet there's no previews for the next set to talk about. Sights for this de...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
Archdruid's Charm is a slamdunk, isn't it? It does absolutely everything. It's just NEVER dead. It is almost certainly as good as it looks. That thing is just nutty, and as a squirrel, nuts are my thing! I'm not going to preorder, because it WILL drop, but it's definitely worth picking up if we tim...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
So how do the discard animals work for you ( Wild Mongrel and Noose Constrictor )? I they can frow to enourmous sizes, but only after we killed Grothama. They aren't there to get enormous, they're there as safety valves so that we can discard Ulamog and recycle our graveyard instead of decking ours...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
Hello, First of all, I fell in love with Grothama thanks to your primer so thank you ! I was curious about some cards not being included, since the budget isn't a problem ( hello Phyrexian Dreadnought or Mana Crypt ): - Concordant Crossroads , the deck lacks "haste" cards and for o...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
I see Rhonas's Monument for trample + mana reduction, but no Garruk's Uprising for trample + card draw. Maybe because Grothama draws all the cards you need, so the mana is worth more than the cards? Yeah, we have a silly-strong draw engine in the command zone, so personally, I've found that I'm not...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
Oh yeah, 100% concur on the Monument. Trample is how we turn from "army of big things" into "actually reducing life totals". I have Green Slime as a "disruption" card - it doesn't advance our game plan so much as prevent someone else from advancing theirs. It's basicall...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
This is the list I came up with. Atm I'm not playing any mass removal. Feels a bit wrong. Some of the Sluggers are old favourites I wanted to find a home for for years, so here we go! What do you think? Okay, first, Primalcrux ? Absolutely love it. It hasn't really had a home in a while but this is...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
I have a question about Kozilek: Can the deck support the double colorless cost on a regular basis? If so, it looks like an absolute blast. Yes, absolutely! In fact, I don't think I've played a game where I haven't gotten the double colorless in time to cast her (although realistically I'm pretty r...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
OK, what's left that might be cuttable to push this cheaper? Well, Grothama herself is pushing $7, but we can hardly cut our general now can we? Maze of Ith at $4, Okina at $4, Sanctum of Eternity at $3, Emerald Medallion at $5, those can all be Forests.Defiler of Vigor at $2.50 is worth it - comple...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
Thanks a lot! I will look into it and try to brew a list! Here's a quick and dirty attempt at making it budget. It's going to be budget by my standards, so it'll probably still be a couple hundred bucks and not truly slashed down to like $50, but I'm cutting a bunch of expensive stuff. Here we go: ...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
Birthing Pod - A touch too restrictive, in my opinion; the ladder isn't as well defined as I'd like, either. Just isn't as exciting as it used to be and puts people on guard. We don't really have a ladder here; I feel like Pod's purpose was to kill Grothama. We only have three hits at 6 mana, and w...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
Also, what's on the chopping block? I think that Veteran Explorer, Nature's Lore, Monster Manual, and Runadi are the cards that I'm least excited to draw at any given time. Ghalta 2.0 is just better than the Manual, so that comes out for her. Runadi has not performed well for me - I look at my big f...

Okay, I don't want to clean right now so thoughts on Lost Caverns of Ixilan! Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant : Where to start. Ghalta seems really, REALLY good. For 8 mana, you get at least a 12/12 trampler. If you've just cashed in a Grothama for a bunch of cards and you're looking to get the best bang for...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
Mana Vault → Out Legolas's Quick Reflexes → In Let's talk about the elephant in the room - fast mana. Fast mana is good, it's powerful, it clearly lets you do Your Thing before anyone else can do Their Thing. But is it fun? If I roll up with a Mana Vault, a card that's arguably better than Sol Ring,...

Oh that looks fantastic! But where is it from? I'm so incredibly ignorant of the release schedule these days It's from the LOTR Scene Boxes that release the first week of November. Actually, there's another new card coming out soon (and it's also UB): Legolas's Quick Reflexes . It costs one mana and does basically everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. Definitely gonna want to snag a copy for our lady and mistress Grothama. Yeah, it's LOTR so I don't mind it being UB. I'll not run...

The Skullspore Nexus looks so good for this deck. For certain gonna keep my fingers crossed that we can pick up a copy around $10 at some point. Has anyone seen this cEDH Grothama deck ? I've been so curious to see how its piloted. Going to proxy it myself at some point. I see some obvious lines an...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
Hold on, lemme see if I made a mistake here. Grothama - 10/8 Troll - 16/8 Fight/Both die Skullspore Triggers and adds the dead creature's power together, then gives us an X/X Dingus. 10+16=26? Maybe I'm missing a super obvious interaction? I'm not sure where the 18 or the 38 are coming from in your...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
The Skullspore Nexus is a card that's coming out soon in Lost Caverns of Ixalan, and I'm kind of fascinated by it. So, let's look at this from a cost perspective. With Grothama in play, this is a 4 mana power doubler for one creature. Like God-Eternal Rhonas, it doesn't touch the creature's toughne...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion
New set new post let's go let's go let's GOOOO! Under consideration: Court of Garenbrig : We aren't really the +1/+1 counter deck. Monarch is nice, but we like drawing cards in multiples of 12. Pass. Curse of the Werefox : Yes, it's a Fight card, but it also give Trample. Worth considering among our...
