Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I think what a lot of people are missing concerning Sheldon's article is the fact that he's pointing to this card as something that doesn't exactly improve the format. Akin to Mookie 's points, it's a card that, for games at the level at which most people play, doesn't lead to a net gain in more int...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Jorn, God of Winter

Alternatively, you can be a tasteful connoisseur of bare chested beefcakes and let Jorn helm a deck focused on organizing feats of strength featuring burly men and lots of oil/mud-wrestling (i.e. fight effects) and bad-taste innuendos while Jorn and his 'staff' watch it all happen. I mean, alternati...

Re: Why is Negan salty?

NZB2323 , you can argue from what the mtg stories tell about a character, but do you honestly think that the vast majority of players actually read those? It's such a moot point to argue from. Dunharrow 's point is that they don't see the super complex and nuanced character in the stories (and thei...

Re: Olivia Gobert-Hicks and Jim Lapage added to Commander Rules Committee

Having had very time over the past months to be active here, I can't help myself to at least engage with some of the stuff that's being said here. (yeay?) Given the aforementioned lack of time, I can't fetch it for you, but there's ample research showing that diverse groups come to better decisions ...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v3.0

I won't have as much time to participate this time, but I'll try to pitch in when I can.

Haunted one wants some tap-outlets. Although not nicely curvable, Nautiloid Ship is a nice hatepiece, blinkable, and potentially threatening tap enabler.

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v3.0

Yeah, it's the background that makes it interesting. Sarevok has such an interesting effect, but it's so hard to build around.

I'm fine with a re-roll or just a re-roll on a different background-commander.

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v3.0

Hmm, seems like Magetha would just be a boardwipe.dec.. Not my cup of tea in terms of building stuff. Although you could also add a bit of white reanimator, given the discard outlet and cleanup Magetha brings to the table. I'd prefer vaevictis, but as that one gives little direction we'd have to dis...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Shifting Sky

Shifting Sky|8ED So what do you have with this? Best i can do is Llawan, Cephalid Empress ! Other than that, it is fetchable with Zur the Enchanter , so i bet there are some off decks built around it. I built a Zur colour shifting deck once using cards like this, colour/land hacking cards, and stuf...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Flamekin Herald

Around a year before this was printed I had built a deck that tries to capitalise on all the commander-related cards like Genesis Storm with Tana and Tymna. I was very excited to see this card, as one of the angles for winning focused on casting my commanders as many times as possible. With the rele...

Not sure about everyone else, but seeing the decrease in traffic in this thread now that we've reached the lands, it might be better if you pencil something down first 3drinks . Then we can go from there. If other folks are stoked to build the manabase, simply ignore this comment. It's just that thi...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Imp's Mischief

I wish this card wasn't so expensive, otherwise I'd definitely pick one up. It's a fun card as it's obviously a colour break (planar chaos was such a treat), so no one will expect it :p

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v2.0

Skyshroud Claim yay
Migration Path yay
Wood Elves|S99 yay
Three Visits yay
Indatha Crystal nay (a tad too expensive for this deck and what it gives)

How much ramp are we going for? If we need more, I'd like to suggest Nature's Lore: classic card and some nice redundancy in ramp effects.

Hello there. I'm new here. I was tipped to look at your use case @DirkGently by @Gentle Giant. I was not disappointed ;). Something came to mind that might help you in your quest. I recently bumped into a podcast I was unaware of that may be an interesting resource for you. They are called "Th...

Hey OneOfThoseBeebles , nice of you to pop in! I hope I didn't give the idea that I shared your initial graph as a pregame conversation tool (I've read your stuff and shared it knowing that). This topic started out as describing one's power level, something which quickly became clear isn't so easy :...

Re: Deck Power Level Thread

Anyway, that said, the epiphany I had was that another way to look at the cedh vs tryhard decks is to compare decks across formats. Legacy, vintage, modern, standard all have different critical turns and average curves because of the card pool. And fundamentally that is what is happening in casual ...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v2.0

Yay to nixing Yasharn for aura shards
Yay to winged shepherd

To keep the ball rolling on hatebears, I'll propose Collector Ouphe, seeing as we lost our treasure hate with Yasharn and don't really play artifacts.

We might want to consider Recruiter of the Guard too, nice flickerable tutor.

Assassin's Trophy yay Diabolic Intent yay Beast Within yay Slippery Bogbender yay Radiant's Judgment yay Although Yasharn actually synergizes with the slide plan, it is becoming more and more of an issue. Kunoros might have the same issue, but at least provides a good set of keywords and hating on t...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

. EDIT: I would also like to clear up the "why not play at someone's house?" thing. My LGS has a bar in it. I don't drink, but my comrades do. I'm the DD. Why not buy a case and take it home? I dunno, I've never been a bar person. It'd be cheaper for them I guess, but then we're also deal...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Yeah, I prefer 5 to 3, for the same reasons as Dirk. My two playgroups are people I'm good friends with, so I often play pods of 5 simply due to the size of one of them. I can see the issue with 5 player games when every permanent can be a combo piece, but luckily that's not the case with my games. ...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v2.0

Ah, good point about final parting being any card, that does change things: A yay from me! Concerning Spirit of the Labyrinth , the dredge replacing is cool, but if we don't dredge on our turn we can't cycle to slide a creature (or at least, we miss the draw) isn't that too painful? Being able to cy...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v2.0

I guess my issue with the reanimator angle is that it doesn't really fit our commander all that well: we need the creatures in our graveyard, reanimation is a plan B (which was the argument for eerie ultimatum). Making our hatebears resilient through sliding Kathril, with Kathril being a solid threa...

Re: Ur-Dragon Tribal Tribal: Randomized each game using batches

Looking at some of the suggestions both of you do, this might be a good time to say that my playgroups are quite low-powered. Stuff like Coat of arms, Reaper King, and Liliana's Contract are a bit much (with some of the others also being borderline). Additionally, budget is a thing. Although the man...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v2.0

Having looked back through the thread, the hatebear idea was there from the start and reanimation sorta slipped in over time. However, I'm not entirely sure why the slide and hatebear packages can't coexist. If we shut off the angles we don't play on and go hard on the ones we can, I think we'll be ...
