Re: Lutri, the Spellchaser Preemptively Banned

If companion is staying, yes there would need to be a clause for it because it is in fact a new thing. The occupying the same space is irrelevant to the argument of how they function. If I'm understanding you right (and I'm not sure I am), I disagree. Here is Wizards explaining the Companion mechan...

And those people will be idiots ... I wasn't saying people would be idiots for losing confidence because Wizards i...

Re: Lutri, the Spellchaser Preemptively Banned

With Lutri you sacrifice absolutely not a single damn thing. As I said above, 100% of RU decks would be improved by playing it. Not 99%. Not 99.9%. 100%. There is literally no thinking except "do I pay the money to get that card". It's literally pay-to-win, with no extra steps to actually...

Re: Lutri, the Spellchaser Preemptively Banned

The mechanic, not the card, is what would cause high demand. The high demand would fetch a high price. The high price would cause people to not include it. For example, Demonic Tutor is an auto-include but the price makes it prohibitive. So if it's a $30 card and all it does is copy one of your spe...

Re: Lutri, the Spellchaser Preemptively Banned

Sol Ring isn't an auto-include - no existing cards are. It's certainly a staple that goes in most decks, but there is an opportunity cost to running it - one fewer card slots to run other cards instead. Simultaneously, you need to draw the card - it's not a particularly good topdeck in the lategame...

...Because it's an auto-include in Izzet?... It's an autoinclude *that you always have access to* which is unprecedented other than your commander. An auto-include that you always have access to *once* and for a card that is weak. Ultimately, as long as it's not overpowered (it's not), the strength...

Re: Lutri, the Spellchaser Preemptively Banned

Commander players, even though you don't have sideboards, you can still get in on the fun. Each Commander deck may include a chosen companion. It starts outside the game and doesn't count as one of your 100 cards. Just like the rest of your deck, your commander must follow the deck-building rule if...

Re: Hybrid mana

I feel like people are making this far more complicated than it needs to be. Just look at extort cards. Those are currently a "corner case", allowed via a loophole about rules text. How about we do away with that loophole and treat all hybrid mana costs in the same way as extort is treated...

You're over-focusing on burgeoning. The point is that all 1 CMC ramp becomes more powerful without Sol Ring.

and almost all of it is green.
And they all have drawbacks that make them not an auto-include like Sol Ring which is my point.

Re: [SCD] Sol Ring

@pokken First, I disagree that Burgeoning becomes more powerful in any meaningful way. What exactly becomes more powerful about it? Let's say we're sitting across the table, you play t1 Burgeoning and then I play t1 Sol Ring . Now t2 you have 5 lands and play Gitrog . Even with my Sol Ring , what am...

Re: [SCD] Sol Ring

The strength of g/x decks necessitates fast mana. I've seen far more nongames due to green ramp than mana rocks due to the stigma against stopping the former and numerous people running answers to the latter. Give me an example of a green ramp card nearly as egregious. I assume you're talking more ...

Re: [SCD] Sol Ring

t1 land, exploration, land, skyshroud ranger t2, land, land, tap skyshroud, cast gitrog Take away sol ring and you start taking the explosive starts away from non-green decks. And I think that is a big risk. Especially if you take Crypt too. I think this illustrates my point. Skyshroud Ranger , Exp...

Re: [SCD] Sol Ring

Sol Ring has demonstrated the potential to unintentionally wreck games. Easily inserted into any deck, it combines with cards which players already have heavy incentives to play, generating a great deal of mana with virtually no deck building cost. While the RC doesn’t ban cards which are only prob...

I want to also add my feedback since you're getting mixed reviews. I strongly dislike Exo as the body font. If not for the community here, the font would actually be enough to make me not use this site.

Re: First Annual Commander Climate Survey

@SocorroTortoise Not derailing, it's all in the spirit of the Current Commander Climate :) Some other interesting notes about the results: Wishes and Banned as Commander are actually very close to parity, which is surprising because the status quo has a huge advantage. I personally voted in favor of...

Re: First Annual Commander Climate Survey

I don't think the RC should be thinking of tournament play with their bans, but rather what happens when playgroup inevitably arms race or start to run more combo. Social contract isn't always viable because everyone wants something different from this game, and sometimes total agreement is just ou...

Re: First Annual Commander Climate Survey

I cast my vote! Only advocated for Ring / Crypt bans, and voted for a surprisingly significant number of unbans. On a broader notion, I read a great post the other day that really resonated with me: cEDH is a casual format. I don't go to tournaments, I play it with friends at a kitchen table, I don'...
