Re: Volrath, the Shapestealer - Clones

Did you ever think about using Nacatl War-Pride so that you can copy it with Volrath, attack, and copy something else with Volrath as the clone effect triggers? 1 Move to attack phase 2 Clone War-Pride with Volrath 3 Attack 4 With War-Pride Trigger on the stack, clone X with Volrath 5 ????? 6 Profi...

Welp. Looks like I've got some more cards in my collection to give the "Terese Nielsen" treatment.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Overlaid Terrain

Seems like it could be good for setting up a massive play for Splendid Reclamation + Field of the Dead in Simic. I might have to try this in my Uro deck. Although, Zuran Orb could do the same thing for free.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Coalition Flag

I play Standard Bearer in my ever-shifting Boros Voltron deck and I think this is a fun effect. It draws off hate and prevents a number of combat tricks that are popular in my playgroup from being played while it's out on the field. I don't think I'd play Coalition Flag in that deck, but I am a huge...

Re: Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty - Theorycrafting

Thanks, y'all! Seems like there should/could be some interesting ways to exploit that (cost reducers, Fuse Splits for versatility on the cascade trigger, buyback as additional costs paid on Cascade, etc) Kicker is another thing I'm looking at along those lines. I'm definitely thinking about cost red...

Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty - Theorycrafting

Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty ----- This is a card that I'm vaguely surprised isn't more popular. Cascade is pretty good, right? So, I'm working on figuring out how to build an appropriate deck for this and I'm a bit torn. While I know (mostly) what big spells I want to play, I'm not sure what shell f...

Re: Style Biter's Breakfast - Volrath, the Shapestealer

Is the decklist in the original post still consistent with what you're running/discussing in the thread? The decklist in the OP is the most current/relevant one, but I haven't played this deck (or Magic period, really) since shortly after my last post. Kinda lost my enthusiasm, but you've actually ...

Its a real shame they didn't do full art for the bob ross lands. Whoever made the decision to not do that needs a talking to.
It's an aspect ratio thing, unfortunately. The orientation and size of Bob Ross' paintings wouldn't exactly lend themselves to full arts in a standard-size card game.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I think my Aurelia/Gisela equipment deck wants this instead of, or maybe in addition to, Duelist's Heritage. Double-strike is pretty damned good with the various Swords of X and Y.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Gor Muldrak, Amphinologist has really caught my eye as tech for my Volrath deck. Anything that can potentially put a mess of tokens into play under an opponent's control is worth a look due to Nacatl War-Pride . This is the first card since Fiend Artisan or Chevill, Bane of Monsters that I've been ...

Re: So... What kind of music do you all listen to?

I'd love more bands like Prodigy Lucky for you, I am a huge fan of EDM, so maybe I can help a bit? Here's some artists that were relatively big around the time of Fat of the Land and had a similar sound/aesthetic. Propellerheads - probably most famous for "Spybreak!" which was the backgro...

Re: So... What kind of music do you all listen to?

There's a lot I like here. [snip!] You should definitely make some time for Ohms . It's simultaneously their heaviest and most melodic record in years. I'd say it's their best work since White Pony . I've been listening to Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds' Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus on heavy r...

Re: Update from Rules Committee re: The Walking Dead Cards

I haven't seen the show but how can a normal human be worse than a mythic being who murdered millions, if not billions, of innocents? Even the War of the Spark trailer showed a family slaughtered by the zombies, igniting Liliana's rebellion. Maybe Negan's depiction is more gruesome than Bolas' one ...

Re: Update from Rules Committee re: The Walking Dead Cards

Sheldon definitely speaks from a place of privilege. I don't understand. What privilege exactly is effecting his judgements in this issue? I think you misunderstand. I agree with the RC's reasoning here and have no problems with it. I don't like the cards or the crossover, so I'm not going to buy t...

Re: Update from Rules Committee re: The Walking Dead Cards

And a third, but generally side point, I was incredibly disappointed with Sheldon/the RC comparing Negan to Nicol Bolas. That whole paragraph of their announcement was incredibly insensitive to the real world problems people have with the character, and why use of the card can be an issue. If they ...

I second a lot of the previously mentioned cards. Especially Negate , Stubborn Denial , and Fact or Fiction . So here are my favorites that haven't already been mentioned. Angelic Renewal is a pet card of mine. I really like it in my Boros Voltron decks because it allows me to wrath without major co...

Re: What are your aesthetic hang-ups?

I personally don't like running proxies (unless they're gold-bordered. Hi, Survival of the Fittest ! :P). I don't like doing the printed card face over a basic land or draft chaff unless I'm trying to decide if a pricey card is actually worth it for the decks it's destined for. My lands are almost a...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I've seen increased calls for banning the entire Reserved List in EDH in response to the controversial Secret Lair. That would be heartbreaking for me. The nostalgia factor of playing classic cards constitutes a key reason why I enjoy Commander. Same here. Also, I wonder if those folks have actuall...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Phyrexian Processor

I can remember a time when Phyrexian Processor was one of the better targets for Tinker and was somehow still one of the fairest cards in Standard at the time. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Re: Problem Commanders: Do You Play Them?

I prefer not to run those problematic Commanders because I don't want to draw hate before I've had a chance to even do anything. I've got a Lands deck that I've been working on that's got Damia, Sage of Stone at the helm, even though it would be objectively better with Yarok, the Desecrated or Muldr...
