Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftan, Abzan Value Midrange

Cactus Preserve is one of the best manlands we have seen in a while, but I'm not sure what it does for Karador's strategy. I guess it can do some post-wipe beats with hefty 8/8 stat line, but I am not sure that it worth the land slot here when there are so many other utility lands looking for homes...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sliver Queen

I'm jamming Queen in my 5c slivers just to flex on the poors  ...Just kidding, but I am running Queen as the commander for the nostalgia. I didn't play during stronghold release, but it has that old magic feel. I had a bunch of sliver stuff so I finally decided to assemble the deck to keep eve...

Traded in some cards toward a Finale of Devastation|84584 , so that comes in to replace Chord of Calling . Chord is instant speed, but Finale is 1 mana cheaper, can tutor from the graveyard, and scales better in the late game. IN Scute Swarm >> OUT Terastodon : I like the exile clause of World Break...

Re: Let's get ugly with Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds - curing terminal EDH brain - dedicated to my buddy 3drinks [WIP]

What happens when they do have the board wipe, or the spot removal for Ghired, and your field/hand is full of 1-drops and a couple french vanilla 4/4's? EDH brain has evolved to care about resiliency and more long term advantage at the expense of raw speed and power. That is kinda part of the spirit...

Re: Sefris of the Kind of Obvious Ways

Also, I saw Oversold Cemetery early game and threw it out there before it was active. I had a spare 2 mana so why not. After (8) turns it never triggered once! I was doing so much looping of the same 3 creatures and didn't hit much actual draw, just looting and recycling. I was relevant the entire g...

Re: Raffine Brainstorming

You got any thoughts on the right approach to getting a couple bodies out before Raffine, Scheming Seer ? Hopefully something cooler than "Play 10 1 drops" :D I did an open ended search for some options. Here are some that might be interesting. These are outside the typical Raise the Alar...

Re: Sefris of the Kind of Obvious Ways

I got a game in with Sefris this weekend and it did hilarious Sefris things. Good top deck had me curve into Sefris on 3 (go budget mana base), and a turn 4 Tortured Existence that didn't get answered for ~5 turns. So that set me up pretty good. Sefris stayed in play for much of the game as well. I ...

Re: Raffine Brainstorming

I am a sucker for reanimator builds. There is a Sefris of the Hidden Ways thread that plays the reanimator theme with lots of looting. Might be worth a look for some inspiration on that strategy in esper. I mean, if your not cheating the mana cost on an 8-drop, what are you even doing with your life...

Re: Zurzoth, Chaos Rider BURRRN!!!

Game Review Game 1, 4 player game: Zurzoth, Pantlaza, Sun-Favored , Teysa Karlov , and Frodo, Sauron's Bane I had a slow start only getting Zurzoth in play on turn 3. Turn 4 Pantlaza casts a dino that does the banishing light thing for each opponent hitting both Zurzoth and Frodo. I just do some set...

Re: Kalamax Midrange/Tempo

Agreed, it already seems to work wonders for my ability to react and keeps opponents on their toes. I still want to get Tamiyo's Safekeeping back in to add another piece of Indestructible protection in. I only have 2 ways outside countering to defend against wraths. We will see if Legolas's Quick Re...

Re: Kalamax Midrange/Tempo

I updated the previous post with the changes I ended up making and will give my thoughts on the cards and the changes it made to how the deck played. The main focus of this list of changes was to make it easier for me to dig for answers with my draw spells. Many times I'm casting Fact or Fiction loo...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I am looking intently for some spicy instants to come from the instant and sorcery deck, but so far all that have been spoiled are sorcerys, artifacts and creatures with flash, but no instants :\ . Hope still remains, but it just seems odd.

Re: SCD - Return the Favor

One of the better copy spells we have gotten in a while. But as history has shown us with copy and redirect spells, unless they cost [sym=0], holding mana open waiting for your opponents to do something spicy is only good when you are ahead and don't need to commit more to the board, or are playing ...

Re: Kalamax Midrange/Tempo

I think I'm going to do a small shake up on this deck to see how far I can push the tempo aspect without dying to midrange decks all the time. My creature base is designed as a plan-B so when Kalamax cost 8 I can drop a 6-drop instead and get some work done. The primary issue is when Kalamax is in p...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Wreck Hunter

You can cast artifact spells and activate any type of ability. Probably playable in a deck with a commander with an activated ability with some artifact themes. Various Urza decks or perhaps Geth, Lord of the Vault.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Yuma is correct (though you only had to guess on a 1 in 3 lol) I bounced back and forth between good and bad while brainstorming him…playing him fair seems fairly weak, he incentivises MLD, he's really easy to make cheap, he's great with loam, but it's really hard to tutor loam in naya, etc…but the...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Outcaster Trailblazer, wow we are getting a lot of this type of effect. I think after this one I'll have enough of this in Titania, Protector of Argoth that next iteration displaces Garruk's Packleader. Vaultborn Tyrant does this in the same set even.

Re: Sefris of the Kind of Obvious Ways

Everything yeti1069 said about the cards I mentioned as potentially good includes are exactly what I was thinking, so I will just give his post a big :+1: Also to note that adding two or three of those cards individually is good, but adding 10-12 of those as part of a creature-based interaction suit...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Insatiable Avaric — That is going in every black related deck in existence period! The the 2 Spree cost makes it a budget Imperial Seal and if you got a additional bb your throwing in Ancient Craving I'm a little lower on this card. I think the main draw is the cheaper Ancient Craving . Cruel Tutor...

Re: [SCD] Pip-Boy 3000

I'm not sure you need a 1 drop to get the value off Pip-Boy anyway. It takes 3 mana to play and equip, even spread out over 2 turns unless you have a [sym=0] cost creature you cannot get it equipped until turn 3. So a 1 or 2 drop creature would suffice to get immediate value. And then you need anoth...

Re: Titania, Protector of Argoth

Few updates with new cards. Nothing profound here lately. IN Aftermath Analyst >> OUT Tilling Treefolk . I'll take more Splendid Reclamation type effects, and Treefolk was a bit weak. Solid swap in my opinion. IN Song of the Dryads >> OUT Kenrith's Transformation . More permanent answer here over K....

Re: Sefris of the Kind of Obvious Ways

How has Mindleech Mass been? I've been debating picking it up for my Captain N'ghathrod deck, but 8 mana is a lot, and 6/6 trample isn't an inspiring stat line for that cost, even if the effect is cool. I put Mass in because I had one from the battlecruiser days, but I don't think I have gotten to ...
