Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Old borders are best borders. I wasn't even playing at the time they were originally used; they just look cool. They have personality. They're uniquely MTG. You can see this on more recent frames too, but to a somewhat lesser degree... and the most recent frames have that ugly and ever-so-slightly a...

Re: SCD: Demonic Tutor
I run Demonic Tutor in a bunch of decks. It's very strong, no two ways about it, but I don't fetch combo pieces with it. I don't play infinite combos, actually, and even remove them from my decks when I realize that cards I included for other reasons go accidentally infinite. Being able to get whate...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
@DirkGently hope you're doing okay, somebody rear-ended me the other week so I guess there's just something in the air. Hope insurance isn't giving you the runaround like they did for me, haha Eh, giving you the runaround is their job. Cut them a little slack. ...I'm only half kidding with that one...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Standstill
I love Standstill so much. I think I've mentioned this before, but outside of Commander, the other format I play relatively regularly is proxy Vintage, and in Vintage, my favorite deck is U/W Landstill. I've had an enormous amount of fun with it, and seeing people scoop to Hall of Heliod's Generosit...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Curse of Verbosity
It really depends on how easily the people you play with are seduced by card draw. If it's very easily, as with a certain SaffronOlive, then this is both a means of drawing cards and also a way of keeping attacks off you. Its ceiling is basically a free goad on each non-cursed opponent's one free ch...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
@Jemolk yeah basically. A Lefty streamer I watch said it was really badly written so I was curious to pass my own judgement. Initially, despite the silly characterisation and blatant propagandising, I was still mostly enjoying it, but it's really getting on my nerves at this point with how repetiti...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Boldwyr Intimidator
Rewriting Kardur to only affect stuff already on board is pretty easy. "When Kardur, Doomscourge enters the battlefield, goad each creature your opponents control." That would make it affect creatures' attributes directly.

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
Yeah, that's Atlas Shrugged all right. And to think, I had successfully scrubbed that spoilered scene from my memory up to now. I suppose the question is, why are you reading Atlas Shrugged? I mean, considering that I'm pretty sure you're not in high school and getting it assigned. That was how I en...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Aethersnatch
I'm generally fine with expensive counterspells and love the upsides, but Aethersnatch is probably the least interesting of them from my perspective. Time Stop answers anything, period, including uncounterables, abilities, and combat. Spelljack lets you cast the spell at whatever later point you wan...

Re: Who wants to talk about spite scooping?
That's actually a really interesting question. I'm honestly not sure what to think. So, there are a number of other obvious potential tiebreakers here. First, if you scoop, can you simply hop into another game? Second, how commanding a position is the player with the Tyrant in relative to the other ...

Re: How long does it take you to initially build a deck?
Once I actually start assembling the deck, it doesn't tend to take long at all anymore. A few hours at most, sometimes more like 15-20 minutes. On the other hand, it can easily enough be a year or more in between the part where I have the idea and start setting aside cards for the deck, and the poin...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Nesting Dragon
Nesting Dragon is nice wrath protection for my dragon decks' boardstates. Dragon tokens are just worth so much in a dragon deck. Building an entire deck around landfall would bore me to tears, but sometimes the payoffs are nice for other decks, and this is one such case IMHO.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Edgar, Charmed Groom
Seeing this Edgar only makes me sad that Edgar Markov is the only real Mardu vampire commander, because just about anything would be preferable to having to use a boring overpowered eminence commander. It's kinda like wanting to build Jund Food and then remembering that your only real on-flavor opti...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
@DirkGently, what are you expecting from the people that still haven't invented a word for "enters the battlefield" or "instant or sorcery"? I'd say he's expecting the most basic attempt at concision in places where it loses no relevant information. Probably a good thing to expe...

Re: People’s Average Game Speed
In my meta, games regularly go long. Like, really long. As in, 3 hour games aren't uncommon, let alone unheard of, long. Now, this is mainly because the games go every which way, with a wide variety of interaction and everyone being in the lead at some point, which I absolutely consider to approach ...

Re: Mono color basic land choice
For me, this doesn't just apply to mono-color. I have a very strong preference for my basics to be either all the same or all different, with a further preference for all different. I won't mix full art with regular art at all, and I try to stick to either all old-frame or all modern-frame as well. ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I have mixed feelings about many of the bulk rare reprints, and I'm not a big fan of the profile legends... but the full-art cards looks reeeeeal nice. Smothering Tithe , Balefire Dragon , and Flawless Maneuver all look great. Really. I think they, along with the rest of the "frame breaks,&quo...

Capitalism -- a source for everything from slow threats of extinction to minor everyday nuisan...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Darkest Hour
Shame it doesn't make creatures black in addition. Painter's Servant with Teysa means infinite removal in addition to its combo potential, where Darkest Hour is just a combo enabler. Still a pretty interesting and unique card in the one deck it goes in, though.

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v5.0b
Definitely very against cutting Golgari Rot Farm . It's literally card advantage. It also lets you reuse Bojuka Bog . That's more than adequate, I think. Likewise for Hive of the Eye Tyrant , I think it would also be a mistake to cut. Graveyard hate is required . The opportunity cost is extremely lo...

@benjameenbear I really fail to see why exactly we can't just fight Phyrexia forever. Phyrexian influence is far more insidious than outright compleation and they have infinite patience in terms of accomplishing their objective. It is my hope that Magic uses this unique antagonist to its fullest, t...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Spitting Image
I'd rather the color pie was more of an exception than a rule, but that's because I play EDH, the restrictions colors place on deck building are a lot more interesting when you actually have a choice. To some degree, yes, that's why, but also... when, for example, black has answers to artifacts, bu...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Spitting Image
A very strong card, given it's repeatable. I do kind of resent just how much clones have been pushing into green lately. I built a clone tribal deck with Volrath, the Shapestealer , but I'd really like to swap it over to Halfdane just for the old-school cool factor. I can't really justify it, though...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v5.0b
Conversely, I am a huge fan of bounce lands. They're card advantage. Two land drops in one card. The Ravnica ones are also no slower than ordinary taplands, because you can tap the land you're going to bounce first. Sure, sometimes you wind up having to play one before getting to cast any spells and...
