Re: Best Abzan Removal choices?

Windgrace's Judgment can also be worth consideration, if you want a bit more value. If you're open to sorcery-speed suggestions, Maelstrom Pulse and Council's Judgment are both quite flexible, as is Vindicate . The best removal cards definitely depend on both meta and your own deck though... Yeah, ...

Re: When it it Okay to Unleash the Hounds?

I'm with the folks who said 45 minutes to an hour. The number of turns varies wildly... if everyone's on the ramp-into-battlecruiser plan, the table can get through a lot of turns of "land, Rampant Growth, pass (I'll finish searching and shuffling on the next person's turn)" pretty quickly...

Re: Adeliz: Beatdown Basics

Neat! I agree that the "optimal" build probably has all the Earthquakes, but I like the current concept. I'd be a little tempted to add some redundancy around Dualcaster Mage + Twinflame ... Heat Shimmer is a second Twinflame, and with a third piece like Purphoros, God of the Forge or Ral,...

Re: Tymna & Sidar (Abzan Hatebears & Razakats)

I can confidently assure you that cutting Bojuka Bog without a Crop Rotation or heavy graveyard meta is a decent call. Not the best, because 'yard hate is always important, but decent. Yeah, agreed. It'd be different if you had a Gaea's Cradle ... then it'd make sense to run Crop Rotation , and the...

Re: Tenacious T: Teshar high-value weenies

So you accomplished something pretty difficult... you cobbled together a mono-white deck that looks like it might be fun :) Have you thought about running Loyal Retainers in the deck? Also, this seems like a good deck for Crucible of Worlds ... with plenty of land-searching and looting effects, it'd...

Re: Is it time to cut signets entirely?

At the end of the day, it's gonna depend a lot on the particular cards choices.

Azorius Signet probably sets up Dovin's Veto. Arcane Signet might not.
Arcane Signet looks pretty good as your only mana source post Armageddon. Azorius Signet doesn't.

I really like this list. I've been kicking around a similar idea... I'd been thinking Anafenza, the Foremost for commander, with a hate-ier build with Stony Silence and Null Rod alongside Collector Ouphe . Tyma, Sidar, and Birthing Pod look real good though. I think benjameenbear ...

Re: What Makes Bad Games?

I'm going to echo what other folks said about mismatched deck power levels; it's the worst. It's kinda like having a sparring partner in martial arts. You don't want to just beat someone up, and you don't want to get beaten up either. You want people who are going to push you and test you, so collec...

Re: Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow: Ninja Tempo

I like this list quite a bit better than the other recent Yuriko list... the extra deck stacking is way better than the "hope you get a lucky blind flip" plan (how good is Insidious Dreams in this list lol). Couple questions tho... Is there a way to fit in Jace, the Mind Sculptor ? What ab...

Re: Arcades. the Strategist:Wall Ball Combo

@Kemev While this may not be the super Top Tier type of deck, nor even a secondary Tier deck, it's built with the cEDH mindset and card choices that I think qualify it to stay in cEDH forum. Ok, fair (I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade or anything.) One thing this list does have going that's k...

Re: Anti-Spike police / counterspell density

Are you sure you want to be in mono-blue? I get a lot of mileage as table police out of Kaervek the Merciless . Lots of removal, Red Blasts and Reverberates to out-counter the counter decks, plenty of card draw, and Kaervek to say, "Quick everyone! Cast your stupidest Timmy spells! Spike'll tak...

I don't really get this list. How does it win? I'm not sold on aggressive mulligans as being a key to victory either. Usually at my tables, it's not that different from playing other formats... once you get down to a 5-card hand, you're probably not winning that game. I can see it making sense if yo...

Re: Wort, Boggart Auntie (aka would you like some MOAR GOBBOS)

If you've got a couple flex slots, you might think about Footbottom Feast (and the other functionally identical cards). They're pretty neat with Goblin Ringleader , since you can repeatedly refill your hand after a board wipe (stack some relevent gobbos with Ringleader on top, draw the Ringleader, t...

I played the hell outta Tempered Steel when it was in Standard, but it's never impressed me in EDH. I like Leonin Sun Standard instead. This is another reason I like red... Jor Kadeen 's an awesome anthem effect. Spear of Heliod is ok too. Esper has pretty good mana options, so I imagine it'll come ...

Re: Tymna & Silas Affinity - Fast aggro with minimal draw and tutors

thopter sword is the main draw for me. Ok, that seems fair. With that in mind, though, it is gonna be tricky to play mostly-mono-brown. A lot of your best cards are going to be cards that support or create artifacts, without necessarily being artifacts themselves. For example, these are the cards t...

This is a solid deck for running Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle; it's got plenty of Mountains, and late-game Explosive Vegetations get you some free lightning bolts. Unless budget is an issue, Stomping Ground and Cinder Glade are pretty handy since you can grab them with the forest searchers. The new ...

Re: Tymna & Silas Affinity - Fast aggro with minimal draw and tutors

I put something similar together when the partner commanders came out. It was kinda fun, but it never really worked as intended and didn't win very often. And I've played a lot of Affinity in Modern (and Legacy, before Modern). A few observations... - For being an aggro deck, it was very grindy. Whe...

Re: Your opinions on the state of FNM Commander

Wizards changed some of the sanctioning rules for retailers/tournament organizers a while back, with an emphasis on improving turnout specifically for Draft, Standard, and Modern, so it's not surprising that your store's focusing more on Modern... It's important for their retailer metrics, which can...

Re: Necessary cards for Scion of the Ur-Dragon

Yeah, it sounds like there's too much different stuff going on. If you want to win with a dragon effect, I'd recommend focusing on the Dracogenius route: 1. Animate Dead (or whatever) on Worldgorger Dragon , starting the loop and floating some amount of WUBRG and infinite UR 2. Interrupt your Animat...

Re: Is 4 Horsemen socially acceptable in cEDH?

Pokken's got the right of it. You need to have drawn almost your entire library (which is the tedious, not-technically-short-cuttable part) before the combo becomes deterministic (ie, your library only has a land and a reshuffle effect left). The section of the rules that axed 4H says that if you re...

The one tidbit from the Flash SCD is that Hulk is in 73% of Flash decks, but Flash is only in 21% of hulk decks. Which suggests that Flash is very rarely played outside of CEDH - although there were a few folks who chimed in (and Flash is only in around 200 decks that are not playing Hulk). I think...

Re: Arcades. the Strategist:Wall Ball Combo

It's important to clarify that Arcades is a High Power Commander, and not a cEDH caliber Commander. He's simply not nearly as efficient as some of the more effective combo decks that appear most commonly in competitive Commander games. You might be in the wrong subforum then... this is for cEDH. Ma...
