Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

KTK is right, by banning looting there is suddenly a lot less pressure on control decks to fight the graveyard. This enables control decks to tune towards a more narrow meta-game. Suddenly we can add additional artifact hate, creature removal, and counter-spells to fight the other decks that were al...

Re: [deck] BWx Shadow

Those are some good points regarding sculler. I could see playing a couple since they are generically good against almost every opponent. I think you are hitting on something important with JVP which is the power of looting effects in shadow. There are so many cards that don't have value depending o...

Re: [deck] BWx Shadow

Glad to hear the esper build is still working for you, I may try my hand at esper later and see what I can come up with. Can we talk about tidehollow sculler for a minute? In favor of the card it's another form of disruption and a way to get on board on turn 2. It's also a 2/2 for 2 which isn't amaz...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

There is some extreme hyperbole going on in this thread right now. W&6 is not warping the format, let's not lose our minds that people are picking up jund again to try out some new cards. Yes the card punishes things with 1 toughness, yes it generates card advantage in the form of lands from the...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

We learned from the Twin ban that banning the best cards of an Xx archetype do not suddenly make the worse Xx archetypes better. It just kills the Xx archetype entirely. CFP, idS, and Wraith have explained this in the past, and it's absolutely true when you look at pre-Twin and post-Twin Ux decks. ...

Re: [deck] Esper Shadow

Is someone still playing it? I'm enjoying running Ranger-Captain of Eos right now. Let me know if you guys are also meddling with the archetype! Hi, I'm still working on shadow, but I'm not sure if esper or mardu is the direction I'll be going in. I'm pretty convinced that between path to exile and...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I think that banning Bridge from Below was a good move and it seems like most people around here agree, so props to WOTC for fixing the issue as quickly as they did. It will be interesting to see what decks people choose to play in the wake of the banning, the introduction of the London mulligan, an...
