Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Would like to see a reprint set this summer. Would be nice for the player base. Remember, Wrenn and Six will be reprinted in MH3. The problem is that people can't wait that long, especially since the Lurrus ban and rise of Money Pile from number 3 to number 1. Double Masters 2 is coming this summer...

How is Blazing Shoal in any way, shape or form, safe? It's a free pump that allows the caster to hold open mana for protection.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Considering 40% of the top ten decks on goldfish have Lurrus as an engine for decks that need specific card if it gets removed or to recover from card effects and combat means that the meta has a lot of usage and removing one card might shake up the meta enough for other decks to flourish. Add to t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

You guys will ban anything that either annoys you or you don't like.

They'll be idiots if they ban anything on Tuesday. I can see one or two unbans. They probably gonna ban something in Legacy, Alchemy/Historic and maybe Standard.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Counter point... I took my money to my investment and saving accounts. Haven't played since August-ish and I've sold most of my stuff. I mean, seeing MtG as a "safe" investment is wrong. Even I with my foiled out decks and masterpieces, don't consider it "safe" - and Invention O...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Where do we go from here? Is there a problem and should it be fixed? If so then how? We leave it as is, because it is the best it has been in years, but I'll do a point by point: - Hammer going for consistent T3 kills So is Titan, Belcher and to some extend Burn. Of all these, Hammer is the most in...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I've predicted nearly 80% of bans on MTGSalvation for over 10 years. And I've predicted 90%. It's not a metric, its my opinion Your opinion is based on some kind of metric, which judging by the post you quoted is prevalence in your local meta. You cannot simply tell me Sigarda's Aid will live in th...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

If I were in the position of power, based off of my experience through online grinding and all the results I've come across mixed in with my emotion just simply watching some games I would make the following changes to Modern: Ban - Sigarda's Aid & All companions Unban - None at this time JFC, ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I also think mixing other IP in MTG is not good. LotR at least lives in the same fantasy corner, but W40K? ugh. The W40k look sure seems out of place in MtG: Thran Quarry , Weatherlight , Urza's Armor , Belbe's Armor , Power Armor , Crosis's Attendant (reminds you of someone?), Predator, Flagship ....

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

next year The set is slated for 2023, and probably for a summer release. The Neon Dynasty and Gangster sets look waaaaay too futuristic for Magic Early magic was built on mech suits, genetic splicing and engineering, space travel, AI and huge robots, nuclear reactors and many more (EDIT: forgot to ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Im honestly unsure why they dont use Kor Duelist in hammer time. Like instead of the Sentinel which yeah can kinda draw cards but doesn't feel all that good, and if for no other reason dualist has to be responded to and that leaves your tech bits semi better protected from the aggro draw. I also ki...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

This reminds me of when I considered Gitaxian Probe fine. =| I mean, I get it, I too was bummed when Probe was banned (I was playing Delver), but there's a canyon of a difference between look at your opponent's hand and immediately draw a card, and look at the top card of a player's library and dra...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

There's nothing remotely broken about Bauble... It wasn't busted before, and it still isn't. Lurrus/Bauble isn't even such an "absurd" recursion/CA engine. Plenty of decks can grind through it (or even don't care about it), and plenty of decks don't even need it. Hell, several Lurrus decks...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

People look in shock at the foil Spirebluff Canals, currently $65/ea, as if I didn't pick em up during Standard rotation several years ago for like $9. Lol what? $65? I bought them for like 10e for standard... I might consider selling them to get the foils from MH2 that I want. One thing I think is...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

nd honestly, DRC might secretly be the better card. Like Ragavan is good. Nuts even. Would you say that he's... bananas...? I'll see myself out now. Having played my first in person tournaments in over 18 months (20+ people each time), I can say that paper tournaments do not reflect online ones. My...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I feel deck building is slightly homogenized. I'm seeing too much Lurrus and Urza's Saga. I don't like that most fringe decks consist of some flavor of Bg/x with Lurrus. Ragavan is played too much too. Ragavan is played in Izzet tempo, Rakdos Lurrus, Jeskai Stoneblade, and Obosh builds. It literall...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

The demand is EXTREMELY high. Especially here in SoCal. There are lots and lots of people who all need 4 Monkeys, so trades are hard to come by. Even online trading communities have been pretty stingy with Monkey trades since they can sell so easily for top dollar. Few people want to move them for ...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

Well I guess time will tell. Predicting the card to drop to half it's current value is bold, but anything is possible. I think we will see paper value start to catch up to MTGO, eventually. My theory is that paper is behind MTGO because no one can really use paper cards right now so ceiling for the...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

Your opinion of the card is why it has an artificially deflated price in paper. Saga puts uncoutnerable threats into play. Unchecked, it creates a board out of nothing and wins. It has plenty of downsides and interaction points to prevent anything unfair from happening. It's merely a great card wit...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

UR Murktide seems to be on top because there are few hard removal (Path etc.) being played at the moment. When the most common removal spells are Bolt, Unholy Heat and Asmor - and Push/Prismatic Ending to an extent, a deck than can easily outgrow them will naturally rise to the top. Add to that the ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I feel like not playing magic when I look at card prices lately. I'm not really playing at all lately anyway, but you know what I mean. %$#% $2k jeskai ragavan decks. The price of admission and speculation are just too ridiculous and it's honestly ruining the game for me in some aspect. If you're b...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Until the card is banned, EVERY Modern deck using red has it's win chances significantly improved by running 4x Ragavan. Literally every deck with red mana, for all the reasons you have already mentioned. There is currently no other card in any other color that can claim such a title, not even a cl...
