Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I loved playing against Lantern, but that probably mostly comes from the fact I played Tron and I'm pretty sure I never lost a match to it even once.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Out of curiosity, has anyone playtested Lurrus as a 4-of maindeck card you have to naturally draw to see if it's better/worse/the same as being a Companion card?

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Has Wizards of the Coast ever said how they messed up so badly with Oko? I remember when they banned it, some people complained about their lack of an explanation, even in their separate article that supposedly was supposed to give more light into it (compare it back to their in-depth articles on S...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Well, shows how little attention I've been paying the last few days. I didn't even know the bans happened until today. I really wish Wizards of the Coast had easier-to-remember banning times. Them hitting stuff from Urza/Oko decks isn't that surprising, but I don't think Karn/Lattice was banworthy. ...

If Wizards of the Coast was a Japanese company, the people responsible for the last year of Magic would permanently be kicked upstairs and forced to wear a duncecap whenever they went to work.
The state of Yu-Gi-Oh would appear to disprove that idea.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 08/26/2019)

Oko would not be an issue in Standard if they printed cards that actually punished planeswalkers rather than going one for one at 3 mana after they have had an activation out of them. Spyglass effects would be fine if the things cantripped -like Tsabo's Web. I don't think that's required. Spyglass ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 08/26/2019)

Side note: in addition to essentially shoving out many of the jaded Modern players on the fence about whether or not to stay in the format, WOTC have also basically confirmed they will never reprint fetchlands in a Standard set for the forseeable future. Given that Khans fetches are banned, and the...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 08/26/2019)

1. You just listed one who did, and did so very vocally over the entirety of Eldrazi Winter. There were small pockets of people saying "yeah, me too" who were basing their experiences on their local meta and ignoring Modern as a whole. If your argument is just that someone, somewhere was ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 08/26/2019)

Or are you just going to continue selling us some crap about how this deck is "fine;" just like people did with Eldrazi, I don't recall anyone saying that about Eldrazi during Eldrazi Winter. Well, I think bocephus (back when he posted on MTG Salvation) might have, but he often seemed to ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 08/26/2019)

Shouldn't Modern be better of with a restricted list? Right now its all or nothing and I feel like a lot of cards could get off the banlist if they were restricted (DRS, Twin, GSZ, Jitte, Chrome Mox, Preordain too name a few) and also a lot of cards that are on the watchlist but at the same time th...

Re: Splinter Twin vs. Modern gauntlet testing discussion

What I am curious about is the possibility of Twin-Blade. A problem with Twin's tempo plan is that its creatures are kind of bad, but Stoneforge promotes a more immediate threat that demands answers, but if they expend the answers on Stoneforge Mystic, then they leave themselves more vulnerable to t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I know it's just one tournament, but I think the SCG Open results of Burn rising to the top while Stoneforge Mystic decks barely made a ripple have somewhat proven that Stoneforge Mystic doesn't necessarily beat a deck with 4 Lightning Bolt, X Searing Blaze, 3-4 Lightning Helix, and SB artifact des...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Is Burn really a bad match up though? I'm not sure about that. Right out of the box swinging with Batterskull on t4 is a play that will win the game in most cases. The rest of the deck can be devoted to making that happen. Force of negation is a thing here, the card can be protected. SFM is horribl...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Lord Seth , it has a 13% turn 1 win rate as per finalnub, according to his real life data (not goldfish). And a higher turn 2 and 3. But, is straight up gets wrecked by fon, spell pierce, veto and discard is pretty good against it. Also lowering their life total quickly can be devastating. Its one ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I went to a tournament today and got put up against Neoform. In *both* games, they won on their first turn. I've never played against the deck before. Is this typical or was this just an absurdly rare occurrence? Because I've never played a game in Modern before where my opponent literally won the g...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 05/20/2019)

Really bad I'd imagine. The only substitutes for Looting are Neonate, which is way less effective, and two cost outlets like Tormenting Voice or Chart a Course, which are slower. Not to mention that none of these options have flashback for reuse. If Looting does eat a ban, I would pray that we at l...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 05/20/2019)

Figure I might as well throw these statistics out: According to MTG Top 8, the 5th played nonland maindeck card in the last 2 weeks is Surgical Extraction (top 4 are Faithless Looting, Lightning Bolt, Opt, and Path to Exile). MTG Goldfish puts Surgical Extraction in 10th place, but they count both s...
