Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I agree Ragavan, W&^ and preferably Urza's Sage should be gone. Or, as oythers have said, if we are to tolerate these powerful cards, give us back *our* toys: birthing pod, Deathrite Shaman , Splinter Twin ...

I'd take out something from elementals too, but I'm not sure which piece.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Just errata evoke to have split-second.

That being said, I agree with iTalenTZ that the problems are that answers have become answers to answers and multi-colors is too easy and not punishable.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Is there a deck that slaughters BR Lurrus variants? Essentially 4 DRC, 4 Monkey, and then a ton of 1/2 drops? Yes, Wizards Ban is pretty good against it. Monkey was a mistake and only still living because: Modern is not much played in paper due to COVID Modern is not in Arena A staple mythic in a h...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Since Veil of Summer grants you hexproof from blue and Thought Scour has a single target targeting you, it fizzles and the caster does not draw a card. You, though, draw a card via veil.

Edit: and I think you meant to reply to talentz with that Nimble Obstructionist vsShark Typhoon

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I saw plenty of new humans that are strong maybes for the deck. I agree that the new Teferi is more likely to affect eternal formats than standard. I agree there were no Eldraine-level cards in the set though. Thankfully?

Felt a little sick that a judge would not know a spell without mana cost has converted mana cost of zero. I mean, it's not like chalice or suspend spells are new or a rarity in modern!

At least it's commander-only cards, so no weird effect on standard, draft or modern.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I think you are over-simplifying. IRL we got nuclear weapons, but people are not walking around with them in their pocket. Similarly, despite our more technological world, we don't have flying ships, giant mechs and inter-planar portal. IOW, I think Kaladesh can have more advance tech than Kamigawa,...

Why not call it Neon Dynasty? Why have a Kamigawa reference at all? There is no upside as all you do is disappoint those who want an actual Kamigawa set. Make a new plane, upset nobody other than those who don't like the aesthetic. My guess is that we will have ninjas in the set. One of the first i...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Both Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle enter simultaneously. Dryad of the Ilysian Grove makes all lands mountain (among other things...) All three see two mountains entering play. So 3 x 2 = 6 triggers. Edit: I guess Forge considers that the entering Valakut don't see themselves entering as a mountain? T...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

My grixis shadow deck would be sad to have to pay for the sin of a pushed neo-delver and her loch-dwelling sister. OTOH, I think if I would be in a situation to play modern right now, I would just play UW spirits with Worship in the side. OH right, UR DRC plays wet-jump-rope Counterspell ...

What do people think about modal double-face cards so far in Modern.
Oops all spells? They use a mere 12-16 of the lands. See linked SCG article in a recent post a bit higher up.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

It's nigh impossible to have multiple conundrum before turn 3. Even then, all you've done is turn your LD into wasteland. You're using deck slots for a strategy that doesn't actually win any game by itself. Your opponent will not play multiple lands per turn to help you and can elect not to find lan...

Re: [ZNR] Skyclave Apparition

As pointed out in the tweet thread, this + a way to return to your hand in response to the first trigger means your opponent doesn't get a token, yet the permanent still gets exiled. (Crystal Shard, 4 mana to exile a permanent per turn)

For those without image access: Murasa Rootgrazer WG Creature - Beast Vigilance [sym=tap] : You may put a basic land from your hand onto the battlefield. [sym=tap] : Return target basic land you control to its owner's hand. 2/3 Ruin Crab U Creature - Crab Landfall - Each opponent mills 3 cards. 0/3

So this is forgotten cave on steroids. It basically cycles away, except it brings with it other cards if you want to. Obv, the cyle cost is higher.

I suppose the best way to play Jace is to scry 2 with your low-loyalty Jace and draw off the high one and alternate. He does seem balanced.

I'm simply calling out that holding one opinion is ultimately the same as holding the other Two key differences: The card *is* banned, so being pro-twin means your view is contrary to the views of those in control of the ban list. Anti-twin don't bring up the subject over and over. Only the pro-twi...

Diversion (could be a new thread). Here's the list of 2MX card reprints that are relevant to Modern. My take away: Many relevant cards. Very few blue cards. Still not worth the price of the packs. Main deck cards of good decks: Path to Exile (u) Stoneforge Mystic Jace, the Mind Sculptor Ad Nauseam D...

Re: [2XM] Full Gallery now up on Mothership.

The problem with that argument is that draft experience has nothing to do with the monetary values of cards, but how fun the set is to draft. So there is no reason to draft a set that will costs you 40€+ per draft when you could draft any other set for 10€. Is there 30€ of extra fun from this set?
