Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

How weird is it that WotC got into bed with Bethesda and we got Fallout instead of Elder Scrolls? None of the cards interest me very much thus far. Deathclaw is alright but I'm not that psyched for play 6 for a single-target sorcery-speed removal spell, and GB aren't major blink colors or anything,...

Those two creature types give me real strong Redwall vibes. I wonder if we'll see any references.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Stoneblade is originally a legacy deck but in commander it'd be a control heavy swords deck, at least that's how I'd interpret it--basically swords and a few value dudes who hold/get swords. If non-commander creatures are carrying your swords, then of what relevance are Aragorn's keywords? Is he ju...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Priest of Forgotten Gods

Priest of Forgotten Gods is one of the few summoning sick sac outlets I run. It's much better than I thought initially. None of the individual effects are amazing but you get all of them. You get ramp, removal and draw all in one card which is pretty hard to pass up for the decks that can support i...

Re: Have cheap +1 CA draw spells really "aged out" of the format?

I think they are still valuable as consistency tools. I can say at least in my meta the decks that have cantrips and Night's Whisper style cards win more often than those that don't. I think part of that is my meta pretty good about answering the early game so people tend to go off in the mid game w...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy

Re: Orb of Dreams It slows treasure decks/cards down since they can't tap for mana the turn they come in. I'm going to toss this in a few decks and see how much of a difference it makes. Re: Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy Insanely strong with almost no restrictions on the abilities. Make a ton of mana and i...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I assumed there would be a card named Wrenn and Eight but wizards just likes making me wrong. As a card in EDH I don't think it will be particularly good standalone, but a 3 mana walker in green is always worth consideration especially when it can protect itself, draw cards and provide mana fixing. ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I anybody else really stumped on the flavour of Frodo, Sauron's Bane ? Why does he have lifelink? Why does he make your opponents lose the game? Why is getting tempted by the ring a good thing? Why is he Orzhov? Did Wizards read the same LOTR that I did? Honestly, come to think of it, this card wou...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Skrelv's Hive

I've seen Skrelv's Hive in practice a few times now and it never lives up to Bitterblossom . The biggest problem I've seen with it is that the floor for what is does so low. Bitterblossom tokens could with no support either chump block or get in for some damage if they weren't doing something else. ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Worship

Worship ( and relying on a permanent to keep you alive in general) doesn't work nearly as well in EDH. EDH has multiple opponents so instead of an opponent needing to kill you and remove the permanent they just need to kill you and then someone else can remove the permanent. And then due to the sing...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Dang, I guess I won't build that Donal, Herald of Wings deck then. Donal, Herald of Wings doesn't seem as bad as Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm or Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief since wizards put so may restrictions on it (especially the once per turn) and it has much harder time of making copies of itself. When I...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Fangren Firstborn

I wonder how many mtg artworks feature feet? Lol, I thought that was a three headed person until I saw your post. Lacking ETB or utility value makes it the 4/2 stats pretty mediocre and 2/3 power definitely opens it up to a lot of answers/makes it very vulnerable when attacking. However, my search ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

The worst dragon is the new tri color from baldurs gate. Its so hard to keep track of copy tokens. I hope its a design space they dont explore further I built one clone deck Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief , I played it once, I loved the deck and I will probably never play it again because it takes too muc...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Zendikar Resurgent

It's great in battlecruiser metas where it has everything a growing battlecruiser board state needs, ramp and draw. It's terrible in combo metas where it doesn't kill the combo players but makes every use up their interaction. This is a such a win more but it is better than the average win more card...

Re: What are the decks you're not going to get round to making?

The Reality Chip : I love the card but as a commander it is just a worse version of Elsha of the Infinite and I already am putting together Elsha. The only places it wins are the cost and playing creatures and lands. I've thought about it as some sort of affinity deck that plays a bunch of cheap ar...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Daxos the Returned

I've never had an issue with the experience commanders. They get stronger as the game goes longer but so do other cards. Some of them are kill on sight once they have a critical mass of counters but plenty of commanders need to be removed immediately. I find the argument that experience counters are...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - In Too Deep

One big downside to In Too Deep for answering commanders (or recursion) compared to the other auras is that they can sac the clue to get the card back. It doesn't require an answer to your answer.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Chef's Kiss

This can also target curses/enchantments which Wild Ricochet can't which is something. I'll have to give it a try but it looks mediocre for the primary reason that other than single target red burn spells like Banefire (but not Comet Storm or Fireball it is an answer that can only answer other answe...

@TheAmericanSpirit And Jesus wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer. @Treamayne The voice actor idea is interesting but I'm not sure I have the right connections. Re: Jumpstart for Commander Partners

This sounds pretty amazing. What would be the best way to quickly re-separate the decks afterwards? Use a marking on the front side or just decide not to care about it and make the all the sleeves different colors? I don't see any reason to worry about duplicate cards between packs unless it is a re...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Razia's Purification

This is held back by its colors quite a bit. Outside of Gerrard, most RW decks are going wide or won't have the scariest three permanents on the board. If you add blue you get more ways to cheat it out as well as selection of much more powerful individual permanents (Omniscience, GinGitaxis). Adding...

Re: The distasteful task of analyzing the Transformers

@Treamayne oh man, Gundam is fun! Think soap opera with giant robot fights to break up the tension. It's actually pretty good if you can just keep that disbelief suspended I need to watch more Gundam. The soap opera + X (Robots, Magic, Iron Thrones) is just so addictive. I've always hoped a gatewat...
