Books that hurt your heart

I'm not sure if this is due to me getting older, but I find myself having a very difficult time with my bread and butter types of novels these days. The current series that I both love and weep during is Red Rising by P. Brown. This series tricks you into loving so many characters, then it rips them...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Consider is categorically better than Opt in nearly every possible application. Unless you are specifically looking for toolbox tutor targets (in which case, why are you playing Cantrips in the first place??), putting a card in your yard is better than the bottom of your library in almost every sce...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I noticed this when x maging with a janky straight up pillow fort enchantment deck, hard counters everywhere it felt. I could land early suppression fields, the odd halo, RIP or greater auramancy in under counters early. Other stuff would randomly get through to make a board, but in the end the onl...

I was looking here:

https://www.mtggoldfish.com/price/Moder ... aga#online

It shows a cap of $71.5, currently $64.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I find it a little weird that Modern Horizon 2 giving a huge pile of playable cards and people seemingly still brewing and having fun and then BAM here's another new set guys! go buy! AFR seems to have garbage cards with really cool mechanics. Maybe a future set will have cards that make the mechan...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

Considering that on goldfish its just about breaking 68/69$ for online play, I find that hard to believe. Now actually trending upwards, it could do that depending on factors still but it has not broken 70 I think where the data points eventually settle may change slightly. On my screen it now show...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

Honestly I think it's just a question of how low the paper market vendors will get due to perceived lack of viability before it catches up to MTGO. Saga is cost is at an all time high of $79 in MTGO and it's trending upwards.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

if that's what they were collecting, that would be cool. But they aren't getting any deck list information or anything about the games themselves other than who plays who and how many are playing. They want very different information from what MTGO wants. MTGO for example doesn't care about what we...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I don't want Wizards to have my email, my phone number, or force me into one specific account. I don't want online and paper accounts connected. None of this has to do with playing the game, and it's pure data harvesting on their part. If they want me to register online, fine I've got no problems w...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

You've yet to reconcile the fact that online prices are almost exclusively cheaper than paper prices, with your earlier argument of "paper prices lagging behind online prices". I already addressed this. 99% of cards in MTGO can be bought for a few pennies. There are no distribution or sto...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

You have a funny way of dismissing (again and again mind you) logical arguments as "single data points". I didn't talk about PERSONAL, ANECDOTAL experiences; you'd - maybe - have a point then. I talked about observed trends during different periods, encompassing highly different stretches...

I mean, that's your theory. I personally don't buy it, but my theory is no more or less valid than yours. I think thats why it boggles your minds when I seem to ignore what you are saying. I hear you and add your opinion as a data point in the other direction. Rarely will a single data point be enou...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

Well I guess time will tell. Predicting the card to drop to half it's current value is bold, but anything is possible. I think we will see paper value start to catch up to MTGO, eventually. My theory is that paper is behind MTGO because no one can really use paper cards right now so ceiling for thes...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

I do not care about deck demographics or distribution when it comes to identifying the capabilities of a card. There are too many other factors that go into what decks are popular and why. Yes, any one specific card's power level affects any given deck's popularity, but that is not the only thing th...

Tzoulis Tone does not always carry over. I wasn't dismissing his opinion, I was using it as a reason for deflated pricing. If it sounded like I was dismissing it, I apologize. Now, on to not agreeing completely with the rest of what you wrote. https://i.imgur.com/DFuX0H1.png There is this morning's...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

I honestly dont get why saga is the price it is atm. In traditional affinity it works kinda but not enough to really play, in post Signal Pest infinity it works kinda but causes mana issues there as well. I really can see it in titan amulet. Otherwise the verse 2 and three seem to be a waste unless...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

If you are on the fence about Urza's Saga, as of this writing it's price is $29 in paper. It's cost in MTGO is $68. I'm no expert but I think it's a good time to buy into them. If it survives the next ban announcement, which I am 99% sure it will, the paper price will probably go up.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

People were first focused on the Urza's Saga decks, skipping gravehate for artifact/land hate. Now, it's slowly becoming clear that UR Murktide will be a top tier deck in Modern, and with that I expect gravehate to ramp up a bit again. Artifact hate is much less effective vs Saga than you'd think. ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

The only data they concern themselves with is MTGO data. Not that it really matters. What they do with this data is pretty arbitrary if the past is any indication. If the data supports their reasoning for a ban, they make sure everyone knows the data. If the data does not support it, they ban whatev...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

This article is a couple months old but I wonder how MH2 has impacted what he was saying. It seems to be a very popular set among the masses of filthy casuals. Why exactly do we need pro magic players again? Were they ever any better than kitchen table players or just more committed to a card game t...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Pioneer in MTGO is pretty dead since MH2 released. It seems there is one demographic that bounces between the two depending on which is more interesting. Right now, Modern has a lot of strong toys and Pioneer is pretty dull. We saw the opposite about this time last year. Interesting.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I'd love to see a bauble ban, the ways to abuse it will just keep increasing as more new cards are printed. It's the type of card they would love to ban because it's not a signature card, it's not a new card, and it doesn't outright destroy any decks if it is gone. Here's to hoping!

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

This is the first time I've actually been priced out of playing the deck I want. I got my fetches cheap back in the day, I got my JtMS before he got unbanned... but Ragavan is now 65 a pop on cardmarket and I just refuse to put down that much money for it. What a frustrating feeling. You have to bu...
