Sultai Dredge

So far, I have been enjoying a lot how the deck plays and I finished 4-1 the first league I played so it could be a decent idea, this is my current list: Planeswalkers 4 Deathrite Shaman Creatures 4 Stitcher's Supplier 4 Merfolk Secretkeeper 4 Scrapheap Scrounger 4 Narcomoeba 4 Prized Amalgam 1 Haun...

Re: Banlist Speculation

I am surprised nobody has mentioned Smuggler's Copter yet, I think it will homogenize all aggresive decks and it will be the first banned card, I also think the Felidar + Saheeli deck will become too strong and require action (maybe they simply ban T3feri so we can interact? I would love that but I ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 08/26/2019)

I'm not sure what this means for MTG, all I can say is I feel like they are throwing in the towel on the format and giving up on trying to balance it. They are reinventing it with this arbitrary starting point, but in 10 years Pioneer will suffer from the same problems that affect Modern now. This ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

We don't have data to back up the powerlevel of the different Urza builds in tthe current metagame but it seems like most players perceive those as the best decks you can currently play in Modern. Does that make them banworthy? No, there has to be more than "this deck is the best" in order...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Opal is only making the deck a turn faster, while that's incredibly good, it's also not changing much in this instance. I would argue that being able to combo 1 turn faster is a pretty big deal. I agree that Urza is the best card in the deck's core and banning it would likely lead to a time where M...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I don't disagree that it can be fought with the right tools but saying that Whirza was great in the previous metagame (heavy graveyard hate) and then explain how you can stop it in the current metagame using Rest in Peace is a bit weird, I was thinking more about artifact hate, cards like Stony Sile...

[Deck] RG HollowVine

You miss Faithless Looting ? You don't know what to do with those Vengevine you played in Hogaak? Or maybe you were casting many Hollow One the same turn off Burning Inquiry? Worry not, I present you HollowVine, a deck able to put a lot of early pressure while still being able to have a decent long ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

GSZ imo is in a similar boat with Faithless Looting. Its an enabler for combo that can also compliment non linear strategy. If we we don't want looting, then we don't GSZ. It can only fetch green creatures so it can never fetch something like Vizier of Remedies , it would enable a toolbox element f...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I think both Green Sun's Zenith and Punishing Fire could be the most safe cards to discuss regarding unbans but right now the format needs to settle a bit after the last changes before any action is taken

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Pretty much just Twin, and probably GSZ would be safe too. I've always said that Looting and Stirrings being legal while Preordain and Ponder were banned didn't make sense, so they should either ban the first two or unban the last two. Looks like we know which direction they're taking, so Preordain...

Re: [Deck] Jeskai Saheeli / Copycat

Maybe it becomes viable after today's announcement, we'll have to see how the format develops without Hogaak. I am currently playing a creature-based version that involves some other combos but I am not sure it fits here, it has the saheeli combo in it but it plays very differently than the establis...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

And it would be all Hogaak in the semifinals if it wasn't for a misplay, Hogaak player had Force of Vigor in hand, opponent has Karn + Ensnaring Bridge in play and casts Lattice, the Hogaak player thought he could let it resolve and destroy both Bridge and Lattice with FoV but then was pointed out t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

As for banning cards, I don't think powerlevel is the only axis. Obnoxious, unfun gameplay can definitely be a factor in banning a card and I want to say it already has been; things that come to mind for me are Sensei's Divining Top in Legacy; although Miracles was a top tier deck, didn't put up ab...

Re: 08/26/2019 Banlist poll - Unban

GSZ → We could see more toolbox strategies, it allows for T1 ramp by fetching Dryad Arbor but is limited to green creatures so it won't be able to fetch some combo pieces like Vizier of Remedies. SFM → It would open the field for blade variants that would likely slow down aggro a bit so it would be...

Re: 08/26/2019 Banlist poll - Ban

I voted for Hogaak and Tron lands Hogaak is simply busted and we all know the details, no need to say much about it Tron lands because of the effect they create on the overall format: Midrange strategies can't really race tron so it incentivises the meta to go under it by playing more aggresive deck...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I am pretty sure Wrenn will also be banned within 3 months in at least 1 format. The more I play with and against this card in Legacy and Modern the more obviously busted he becomes. He simply comes too soon with too many loyalty counters and starts generating too much CA every turn without using a...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

It doesn't even have to be pure combo, decks like Hogaak or Dredge can mull to 4 cards and still develop a strong plan as if they kept a good 7 hand, that's something that other decks simply can't do. The pure combo deck that comes to mind is Neoform, at least for me. Of course London Mulligan impro...

Re: [Deck] Bridgevine / Dredgevine

Well, Neoform was a close one, I lead with Thoughtseize and took Neoform but they also had Eldrith Evolution, 1 turn before I killed them, they had to sac a land to draw a card and they were 1 mana short of going off so I was lucky there. Vs Humans, most other Hogaak decks were having trouble (it sh...

Re: [Deck] Bridgevine / Dredgevine

I really didn't have issues with the manabase, with 10 fetchlands I could reliably find any color I needed. Satyr is like Supplier but for 2 mana and it helps finding lands for Bloodghast, I play 3 copies as I don't really want to draw too many in the early game Satyr T2 is good if you can reliably ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Yeah, of course only GP Barcelona data will not be perfect because there was less awareness about how powerful Hogaak is but it's a good starting point, many players knew about it and a lot of the pros that didn't day2 the MC were playing the GP and most of them were actually playing Hogaak, Leyline...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Interesting win rate analysis from the Mythic Championship IV . - Hogaak the best deck. Hogaak with maindeck Leyline of the Void was best Hogaak. - UW control is despite being popular pretty bad. Thanks for the Data! However, it's pretty clear that Crab Hogaak had the highest winrate against the fi...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I agree that we must enjoy Modern as it is and not try to turn it into something else but aren't these statements incongruent?: You can see the same people now, inventing new arguments, claiming UW is the only viable control deck, Control(UW) Seems like UW is the only viable control deck, at least i...
