Re: March 2020 AMA

The RC is more than capable of taking competitive balance into its own hands. We have a pretty good grasp on competitive Magic. We don't have any desire to balance Commander for competitive play because that's not want we want from and for the format. It's a respite from competitive play. Our core ...

Re: March 2020 AMA

I have two questions. The first one is regarding the argument I often see people make about how if Flash were to be banned, it would inevitabley unleash a chain of other cEDH bans as "there is always a best deck". Usually people who say this will point to Demonic Consultation & Tainted...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

Not really, my eyes tend to glaze over when you start talking about cEDH. And just so we're clear here, are you saying that Storm and a 2-card infinite mana combo is something you'd expect to see in a casual game of EDH? Well, if you don't even read my arguments, there is not much point in continui...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

o it's a matter of convenience? What you're proposing is that whenever I play with my friends I should be maindecking Rest in Peace, but whenever I play with randos I should remember to take RiP out beforehand and replace it with something more appropriate. Or, I could just use a Wish + Wishboard s...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

So I will maintain my position that if you're Wishing for the actual same card in the vast majority of your games, there's a deeper problem than the Wishes going on with the playgroup. Either someone's deck is too good and becomes Archenemy every game, or the meta isn't very diverse and the card yo...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

Honest question: is there even productive discourse at this point? Because all I'm seeing is two sets of people going around in a circle with no clear yield being given. The problem here is that there isn't a "right answer". Both sides have valid points and can make a case for why wishes ...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

You keep saying people will Wish for the same few cards, but I honestly don't see how that's true. Assuming wishboards, it's definitly true. People just won't have too many options to wish for. They'll try to cram as many different pieces in there as possible, which means only 1 hate piece per stra...

Re: Tymna & Sidar Kondo (Abzan Hatebears & RazaHulk)

I made significant changes to the deck in order to incorporate the Protean Hulk lines I was talking about. Check out the original post and the changelog to see all of them! Here are the main hulk piles of the deck: Hulk Trigger → Karmic Guide & Viscera Seer , revive Hulk, sac it again → Saffi Er...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

Want to just leave it here with "agree to disagree"? No, not yet. I'm enjoying our discussion quite a bit tbh. What do I do if I sit down against a graveyard deck, an artifact deck and a token deck at the same time? What do I Wish for? The answer is obviously "it depends on who is th...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

The point was that tutors are a problem because they effectively double your chance to draw your best card, and generally your best card in a given deck is the same 2-3 cards regardless of game state. Yes, but don't you think that wishing for the same 2-3 silver bullet hate pieces every time would ...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

Well just because I don't use tutors doesn't mean I want them all to suddenly stop working. But beside that, with the exception of Karn, I can't really imagine a scenario where Wishing for a proactive card is better than just including that card in your deck. To put it another way: Demonic Tutor ac...

Re: Eliminating First Player Advantage

Rather than eliminating the first draw of the game, I would prefer player 2 gets to Scry 1, player 3 gets to Scry 2, and player 4 gets to scry 3. Or a small life total buff. Life total buffs are a poor idea in a format where the starting life total already is too high for certain archetypes to even...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

Battle of Wits does work. If you play the card in a game of EDH, it's rules text functions. Whereas if you play Burning WIsh it does literal nothing because the RC erased it's rules text. That's a pretty significant difference. So if we change rule 13 from its current text so something like "S...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

Git Probe because it is extremely efficient, not because of anything to do with the social contract. The inverse is also true; the amount of play (or lack thereof) that color-hosers, or any other cards you feel like picking as an example, see in cEDH has absolutely nothing to do with the social con...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

Saying that "X card doesn't see play in cEDH thus it's not the social contract" is pretty meaningless. By that logic we could claim the social contract suppresses the play of Gitaxian Probe because it regularly appears in cEDH decks but not EDH decks. But we both know that's not actually ...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

The RC has made it abundantly clear that cEDH is not a factor at all in regards to the ban list. cEDH is an entirely different animal than regular ol' EDH and should be treated as such. It has no bearing on this particular discussion. But all of that is beside the point. As you said: "tarotplz...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

But I disagree with your premise that the reason players don't put Choke and other cards of it's ilk into their decks is because of the possibility they'll be dead cards. I believe the reason players don't play cards like Choke is because they're frankly awful cards to play with and are widely unde...

Re: Tymna & Sidar (Abzan Hatebears & Razakats)

Just a pedantic FYI here for your thread title: 'Sidar' is a title, not a name, i.e. Sidar Jabari. So maybe it should be called Tymna and Kondo? Again, super pedantic of me, but it's the kind of pointless detail I'd want pointed out to me. I'll go now. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll see if I can ...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

But my whole argument was not based solely on the singular point of prebanned Wishing and therefore has not been debunked and therefore your statement remains fallacious. No, it's still not a fallicy fallicy I'm afraid. That would require me overreaching in my conclusion that wishes can not possibl...

Re: Tymna & Sidar (Abzan Hatebears & Razakats)

I've always wondered in Beastmaster Ascension is worth a deckslot in a strategy such as this. Normally, your Hate-Bears get outclassed by others as the game progresses but the Ascension should work to reward you for turning them sideways. I do realize there is anti-synergy with Sidar Knod and the A...

Re: Tymna & Sidar (Abzan Hatebears & Razakats)

Another card you could try out is Bloom Tender . Furthermore you could put more elves on your shelves and run Priest of Titania with more landhate :) Bloom Tender is on my list. I definitly want to add that one. Probably in the Farseek slot. I don't think I want to add more Elves jsut for the sake ...

Re: [MCD] Wishes

Regardless, I think your case that wishes were unjustly exiled from the format from the very beginning without any justification whatsoever has been debunked by the fact that wishes were legal at one point and then intentionally removed for causing bad gameplay. I've been looking forward to mention...

Re: Tymna & Sidar (Abzan Hatebears & Razakats)

Yeah, agreed. It'd be different if you had a Gaea's Cradle... then it'd make sense to run Crop Rotation, and then since you had Crop Rotation, it'd be more reasonable to keep Bojuka Bog. (This is the biggest reason I haven't built a similar deck... I want to play Life // Death with Cradle, but I do...

Re: Which Orzhov Commander should I choose?

I think that in a vacuum Tymna the Weaver (even if alone) is probably the strongest commander in Orzhov colors. It really depends on what you want the deck to be like though.
