Re: Jeska, Falthis, and Obosh: The Power of Three

I was actually working on this deck and came to get some ideas on the last few cards. Here is what I had: Commanders: 3 1 Falthis, Shadowcat Familiar 1 Jeska, Thrice-Reborn 1 Obosh, the Preypiercer Creatures: 19 1 Combat Celebrant 1 Demon of Wailing Agonies 1 Dreamstealer 1 Lightning Serpent 1 Light...

Re: Is This Format Too Dependent on Netdecking?

And it's not like you bought the packs because you thought you might open a pack of 6+ phyrexian swamps - everybody knew there was one per pack before they bought them, wotc didn't trick anybody. No doubt you will mock my stupidity, but I did buy packs thinking I would get 6ish special lands per pa...

Re: Is This Format Too Dependent on Netdecking?

It sounds like you're annoyed that the ones you were more interested in weren't the ones targeted to your price range, but I'd say that's just bad luck. I know it sounds like I am crying because things cost money, I really am not. What I am saying is that it isn't bad luck, it is poorly understandi...

Re: Power Level Model Discussion

Skill could be a similar fine-tuner of the social axis maybe? I'm not sure where to put that. Skill is a very hard to quantify thing, I mean if you are on the pro tour your within the top 5% right? But that doesn't necessarily mean you are within the top 5% of EDH pairings. I like to think of mysel...

Re: Is This Format Too Dependent on Netdecking?

For example I was excited to build a deck again when I saw the new phyrexian swamp. When I saw the price tag on a single swamp because WotC made the terrible decision to only include one special land per booster, I lost that excitement real quick. I don't know if that's quite fair. As far as exclus...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Graveyard Marshal

I don't think it does, Black really likes playing with your second hand (Graveyard) so getting rid of other people's stuff while reanimating your own is generally a better deal. Now with that being said having a 3 power 2 cmc critter is worth having sometimes even if you never activate his ability. ...

Kinda reminds me of this article https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/parallel-design-2015-04-20 I can see people thinking they are very creative, and being 100% correct... then you show up and someone else had the same idea. Re: Budget Staples for Newer Players

I think one of the biggest pieces of advice I can think of, buy a precon! If you get one of the new ones, you can often get them for $50ish and they have the bones of a decent deck. Some of them are even a blast right out of the box. Also, most people that have played for a while have 100 Disenchan...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

So I bought some packs of Jumpstart... and the cool basic lands, yeah you only get one of them and the rest are M21 lands. Kinda upset. I was very tempted to make a Yawgmoth, Thran Physician themed deck complete with the phyrexian swamps but they are going for $10-12 a pop. Assuming I run about 30is...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I'm glad to see Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter getting a foil printing after a decade. One of my favorite commanders in those colors. Endless Atlas is another notable first foil printing for all of the magpies out there who are into mono-colored decks. I was really confused as to why you referrenced Thiev...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Isochron Scepter

I really loved my no-Stick in Standard/Extended but the one time I tried it in Ertai, the Corrupted (not the friendliest deck to begin with) it just didn't work out. I generally lost the Scepter long before I could get parity.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Elvish Piper

See for me it was my 1x Hammer of Bogardan and my 2 Brainstorm in a counter/burn deck that terrorized the HS cafeteria. I smited quite a few Elvish Pipers in my day. But, could you stand up to my Force of Nature|4ED + Spirit Link|4ED that I would power out with Untamed Wilds|4ED and decline to pay ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Elvish Piper

Right? Gone are the days my one-of revised Royal Assassin was the terror of the high school cafeteria while hidden behind that Wall of Shadows and a Meekstone. This was my near exact experience. See for me it was my 1x Hammer of Bogardan and my 2 Brainstorm in a counter/burn deck that terrorized th...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Vivid Lands

I still love them! But, ummm... yeah I don't run them unless it is 4+ colors and I am really stretching to build another deck. Also I have a habit of building a deck, and after a few games tearing it apart. I loved Lorwyn/Shards standard... I love me some Cruel Control. I guess I am wierd, cause I l...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The Signets

I do run Signets in most every non-G deck that is at least 2 colors. I do have access to lots of other rocks, but I don't like to change them up and since I sold most of my stuff about 2.5 years ago I try to not spend a ton of $$ on Magic. Last month I think I spent less than $30. The month before t...

Re: Tax, Tap, Destroy, casual stax

Not to pile on, but if we agreed on a casual game and someone pulled out Stax/MLD/cEDH deck I would either think they are new or disingenuous. If you want to play this ( Grand Arbiter Augustin IV ), I would have a conversation with the people prior to so they don't think you are trying to pubstomp n...

Re: Best Commander for a "Fires of Yavimaya" Shell?

Sounds like you need to run Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa / Vial Smasher the Fierce or Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper / Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder and get some 4c action going on. One of my favorite decks was Dark Naya Zoo... maybe mash them up? I don't remember the deck list, and I can't find one that ran Dark...

Re: Automated Commander Power Level Evaluation

Should I make a copy and edit, as it looks like if I make changes it would affect things. I know there would be a changelog etc. but I would rather not cause more work. Edit: it feels like ramp has a lot of the points. Mana Crypt is worth 100, Imperial Seal 25 and Purphoros, God of the Forge 15? But...

Re: Automated Commander Power Level Evaluation

Maybe it is silly, but I find it odd that Elves of Deep Shadow is the same point value as Birds of Paradise . Don't get be wrong I think the power level is close, but if BoP is a 15, Elves are probably a 12 -14. Only producing B and losing 1 life isn't a major draw back, but being able to attack for...

Dakkon Master Blacksmith

This deck is kinda my baby, so I have spent a little bit on it. I want to have either my lands or my artifacts to deal with any situation. I also have all the Swords of X and Y in here, including a Sword of Dungeons & Dragons signed by Sheldon. I have always asked and no one has cared thus far. ...

I see this thread is still active months latre, how has the data been further assessed, for lack of a better word. Please, spare me the technical jargon I won't get. I'm out of gas on making up point rules after exhausting most of my knowledge - I might try going through a few of my old decks and c...
