Re: Let's brew: Lulu is a crimelord

I would go pretty deep on rogue tribal here, especially because Lulu and Oona's Blackguard are clearly bffs. Pile on those counters and start emptying hands! Making Nighthawk Scavenger huge is still one of my favorite things to do in a game, and Grim Hireling similarly goes hard here. Edit: Oh, also...

Re: Companion Mechanic

I have built two companion decks, with only one still together, and have seen next to nothing of them in my playgroups. Pre-companion nerf I put together a very fun Muldrotha, the Gravetide + Umori, the Collector that was all creatures, but with a lot of artifact and enchantment creatures to still g...

Re: September Ban List Update

Have to approve of the Golos ban, no damage in seeing that hilariously good value engine disappear from the table. Not entirely seeing the logic of the unbanning, but it's a lot of mana to end the game and (as noted) not really more damaging than some other options you can be doing at the same mana ...

Re: Revisiting Old Ideas - what's the best Rebels commander?

I've got no experience on the Extus thing, haven't seen how it plays or really researched it at all so that could be something. Licia is super interesting aside from the flavour fail of this vampire leading her rebels (or flavour win pending how you view vampirism). You've even got the Task Force l...

Re: Revisiting Old Ideas - what's the best Rebels commander?

I'm personally fond of Mardu since it gives you access to the "complete" package + mercs, who I have also found to be slightly better in the format (with a handful more big beaters and removal options). With that in mind, I also prefer either a reanimation option in the zone ( Alesha, Who ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Dread Presence

Beyond solid in landfall decks, though I've actually really enjoyed it in mono black too. K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth wants both card draw and ways to buffer life totals, so this guy has been a solid workhorse in that deck every time I've gotten to play it.

Re: Chulane the Dungeon Master (D&D Theme Deck)

Thankfully, the D&D set is not completely stuffed with things that demand a flavorful inclusion, however, I do really like the venture and dungeon mechanic and intend to integrate it. The fact that a lot of the cards are ETB effects on creatures also synergizes nicely with the commander, so all ...

Re: Problem Commanders: Do You Play Them?

Of my collection of 32 decks I run the following "problem" commanders: Kozilek, Butcher of Truth Meren of Clan Nel Toth Edgar Markov Korvold, Fae-Cursed King Chulane, Teller of Tales Atraxa, Praetors' Voice So, about 1/5th of my decks are headed by problems, though of these six only two of...

Re: Chulane the Dungeon Master (D&D Theme Deck)

Congratulations! This is the first Chulane build I've seen that doesn't look totally miserable to play against. For real, I like taking busted commanders and throwing them into theme/flavor shells to try to bring them more in line. I'd like to think I've succeeded in that here, in addition to all t...

Chulane the Dungeon Master (D&D Theme Deck)

Once again proving that I am the target demographic, Wizards is stepping on my toes with the Dungeons and Dragons set. I'm very much looking forward to it, but it's looking like my dungeon-master theme deck is going to fall into obsolescence with the release of an actual D&D set. This was my ori...

Re: Would you accept kingmaking to win?

I don't think I've ever come across a kingmaking scenario where there wasn't at least some other motivation behind it (from not wanting to place last to being politically obligated to the person they are kingmaking from some other point in the game), so I have absolutely zero issue with taking the w...

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

Notion Thief , Hullbreacher and Narset, Parter of Veils + wheel are awful to play against. Terribly unfun. I would be very happy to see those 3 + Alms Collector for consistency gone. Not to pile on too much here, but even as a huge proponent of consistency I don't think collector is in the same cla...

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

I am idly curious, how often are people seeing the Hullbreachers and Narsets of the world played alongside wheels? Like, in order, I see wheels employed as: 1.) Triggers for Nekusar, the Mindrazer or The Locust God cards, 2.) Graveyard mechanic enablers, 3.) Hand refills for various flavors of red/b...

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

I'm cool with the banning of cards that have no-fun effects with wheels- again I am always just looking for consistency across the board with bannings. Does it work like Leovold, Emissary of Trest but isn't a commander? Who cares, the effect is unfun whether it's the commander or in the 99, ban em a...

Re: Choosing a Commander(s) for an Artifact Creature Deck

If you're set on including white in your list I like Alibou the most, however my go-to artifact commander recommendation remains Silas Renn, Seeker Adept x Vial Smasher the Fierce junkyard reanimator. Something very satisfying about playing artifacts of all shapes and sizes from the yard while domin...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Grist, the Hunger Tide has enough neat, narrow interactions that I'm actually quite pleased to see him playable as a commander. We already have flip walkers and a handful of other not-broken walker options available, and this guy feels perfectly aligned with the power level we've seen in the comman...

I started just eyeballing the deck without going through the initial writeup and was, like, "Did WoTC design this? They do love to be trying to do three things at once in a deck." Respect posting it up, frankly, there is no harm in recognizing when something isn't working and you definite...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Void Mirror is... it's good. Shut down whole decks for [sym=2]? Yes please, but also why did they print that? Sorry Kozilek, the Great Distortion .dec. Sorry Force of Will or any free crap cards. Really? I'll be a little mad at the hypocrisy if this is allowed to run free while Iona stays banned.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Primordial Hydra

Not a card I'm particularly fond of, but I really like the aesthetic of fuzzy hydras. Up there with the strange head-mane design of Feral Hydra.

Re: I'm in a rut and I haven't seen a new commander that really speaks to me in ages.

Bear Force One is an enjoyable deck, definitely far outside of your normative play patterns so big ups on that. Don't forget the ultimate powerhouse that is Bear Cub - any opponent that kills it loses the game of having a soul. Long ago, in the pre-mirrodin days, I played a mono-g deck full of just...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Expropriate

I enjoy big dumb spells and Expropriate is on the farthest end of that, still narrowly within range of things I'm okay with casting. Now, admittedly, most of the decks in my group are still pretty much just battlecruiser decks, so stealing permanents and getting an extra turn may not even be enough ...
