Re: What bothers you most about the Walking Dead commanders?

You and people regurgitating this argument is about akin to the politicians claiming that COVID-19 isn't any worse than the flu. Both are patently false statements for the sake of spinning an emotional argument with zero factual basis. This kind of hyperbole does nothing to change my mind nor does ...

Re: What bothers you most about the Walking Dead commanders?

I had a long, unproductive argument about this last night and I feel like I need an outlet. I don't do this with the expectation that everybody will agree with me; on the contrary, last night showed me I'm more alone on it than I'd like. Hopefully, though, I'll be able to better outline my thoughts ...

Re: 32 Commander Deck Challenge

though I have wanted to make a devotion deck in blue It isn't impossible, but having dabbled a little in the idea it isn't as straightforward as I'd like. In part it's due to how mono Blue generally feels like you're deep-diving into combo town or heavy control. I currently have three mono Blue dec...

Re: Banlist update: 7 cards banned for offensive imagery/names

It isn't that hard to make strictly better versions, since most of them suck horribly. Many RL cards have been superseded. While this is a separate conversation, I'm personally against WOTC continuing to take old cards and buffing them. I'd rather not promote further power creep beyond what they're...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

In a couple of the places I've lived, the USPS has been excellent; in other places, they deliver inconsistently, sometimes lose packages, leave stuff way out in the open, and all the other annoying things possible with a mail service. The worst experience was a place who refused to deliver some MTG ...

Re: Banlist update: 7 cards banned for offensive imagery/names

Actually, hey. There's an idea. I'm a lot more okay with them banning old cards they deem to be offensive in some way if they immediately follow those up with functional reprints. That way there is essentially a net-zero effect on the game itself. This is especially relevant with something like Inv...

Re: Banlist update: 7 cards banned for offensive imagery/names

That's a good point. It's possible they could base it on original art, which would save Fog . Given the response from folks to this first round of bans, including Rich Shay's criticism, I rather doubt they'll ban a bunch more cards. We'll see. I've just decided to be done with Harold McNeill. Thoug...

I hope they reprint Sylvan Library again soon with the new art or ban all of McNeill's cards.
The latter option ends up with some bans which are somewhat awkward, at least to me, since this includes Fog|MIR with 22 printings and like 5 different arts total.

Re: Group Think: O-Kagachi

Thanks for running this! I'm going to look forwards to seeing the deck in action - I hope the games get recorded and put up somewhere (or at the very least, some detailed storytime). I too would like to see how it ends up performing. Treamayne if it ends up you need somewhere to post it, I humbly o...

Re: [M21] Fiery Emancipation and other cards - Mothership 6/10/2020

From the Mothership, 6/10/2020. Fiery Emancipation seems incredibly strong, especially when compared to other cards that do similar things, like Furnace of Rath (doubles, affects opponents too), Dictate of the Twin Gods (doubles, affects opponents too). I think Gratuitous Violence is a closer compa...

Re: Second Annual MTGNexus Commander Climate Survey

I was tempted to throw a vote in for Sundering Titan , but that would be entirely because I want to reanimate it with Sharuum the Hegemon , and not because I believe it would improve the format. :D Having played Sundering Titan in a Sharuum deck before Titan got banned...it really was never fun for...

Re: Second Annual MTGNexus Commander Climate Survey

I do kinda feel like the power level you play at question would be better as a 'select all that apply' instead of choosing the average. I'm pretty much content to play a wide range of levels, so selecting the '5-6' option doesn't really express this. At the remote CommandFest this past weekend I was...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

I only wish my phone didn't die so quickly, as I haven't been able to get my hands on an actual webcam I have a USB adapter thing for my phone, so I plug it into my computer and let it charge while being used as a webcam. It doesn't completely stop the battery drain. Definitely curbs it a lot though.

Bojuka Bog would have been nice. Thought Distortion is just so costly for this kind of effect. Plus, not hitting creatures in the graveyard feels quite bad.

I'll vote to cut Thought Distortion. It's mean, and there's no real dovetail in our strategy.
I think the deck might be lacking graveyard removal, but I don't think Thought Distortion is the card needed for that effect. I'll vote for Thought Distortion too.

Re: Group Think: O-Kagachi

There's one vote for Karrthus already, but I can't seem to find where that vote was. Well, regardless, Karrthus would have my vote to remove. It's essentially an overblown haste effect for O-Kagachi with the downside of potentially handing your commander over to somebody else. Side note, I think it'...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

That's a shame. In my limited experience in industry (coming up on 3 years) I've had some opportunities to use the more advanced things I've learned, but for the most part it is very 'day-to-day', so the opportunities to go in-depth and do the more interesting things are still limited. I was the op...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Nah it wasn't. I did research during my undergrad a couple of times for my to-be supervisor and as I neared the end he asked if I wanted to do a PhD. When I said yes, he came up with three potential topics for me and we went from there. The best part was, because I'm both fairly mathematically-mind...
