Re: MTG, the Corona-Virus Pandemic, and future events.

The only thing I have gotten out of this thread is that a lot of people are so friggin' self absorbed that they are willing to risk not just their lives, but the lives of others, because they are inconvenienced that they can't go an play M:TG with random strangers due to a global pandemic with a hi...

Re: MTG, the Corona-Virus Pandemic, and future events.

There will always be a paper scene for Magic IMO because of people who want the social aspect of the game, so paper sales will probably never tank. I think there's still room to run events online and offer credit in store. With many of the available platforms for pairings this is probably a great i...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Looks like YouTube is down. I thought it might of had something to do with the latest version of Adobe Flash Player and when I updated it the website still won't view videos on my web browser. Anyone know what's going on?

https://icv2.com/articles/columns/view/46912/rolling-initiative-magic-d-d-time-covid-19 Hasbro sales for the third quarter were pretty interesting (see "Big Gains in Hasbro Gaming in Q3" ). Total sales for the company are up 11% for the year, including a 19% drop in April , May, and June (...

Re: Nissa's Spanish Inquisition!

Out of the new Commander Legends spoilers I think you might've overlooked Monstrous Onslaught as far as noncombat damage goes since it doesn't deal direct damage to players like Squall Line and Hurricane does. Scroll Rack does seem like it would work really well with Nissa, Sage Animist 's +1 abilit...

Re: Kenrith, the Returned King 2.0

Thanks! I actually do run Farseek , Happily Ever After , and Smothering Tithe in here. Did some brewing a few days ago and found some synergies that seemed to work really well for this deck: Keldon Twilight - Thought it'd have some good synergy with Kenrith's first ability of giving all creatures ha...

Re: Standard Meta Discussion

a few weeks after the bannings, standard seems to be more open and diverse than it's been in a while. At least in my opinion. It seems like there's no common consensus and the best deck seems to be changing on a weekly basis That's probably because Arena is the future of the format so we're going t...

Re: Kenrith, the Returned King 2.0

Here's the religious references for each card thus far: Kenrith, the Returned King - Representing Christ himself. Bastion of Remembrance - Commemorating Christ's tomb. Dark Petition - Christ's temptation after fasting in the wilderness. Filigree Sages - Representing the Three Wise Men who came to vi...

Re: Kenrith, the Returned King 2.0

Trying to represent various aspects of Christ's ministry within the deck was the biggest challenge since a lot of the card synergies and combos didn't reflect on that too well as much as I would've wanted it to. First I tried experimenting with having an Angel for each color however when that didn't...

Re: MTG, the Corona-Virus Pandemic, and future events.

one of the stores I go to probably made a fair bit of money off casual players playing commander. They were telling me that they felt the risk of being known as "the store that people got covid at" outweighed the risks of not running events and they felt that it could cost them more in th...

Re: Standard Meta Discussion

There's a lot of life gain in Standard right now where it makes it nearly impossible for Red Deck Wins to compete against especially in Pioneer where there's still not as many options to prevent your opponents from gaining life easily. Trust me I know, I run Red Deck Wins in Pioneer where my friend ...

Re: MTG, the Corona-Virus Pandemic, and future events.

I think that they made the safest call tbh. I don't know what it's like in the US rn(but assuming bad if it warranted extending the suspension on in store play) but it's been getting worse in Canada for just over a month I'd say. I can't see in store events happening on a large basis until at least...

Re: Many MTG Player's ask: Is the reserved list a load of bull?

They may be only in it for the money however I'd like to think that it inspired these people to own and operate their own LGSs but not the Rudy from Alpha Investments business model that doesn't provide In-Store Play. I get why Rudy's model is more convenient as someone who owns and operates their o...

Re: Possible new Kamigawa set in the pipeline?

Since the return to Kamigawa is rumored to be cyberpunk themed I wonder If Secret Lair x Gundam will become a thing? If Wizards of the Coast does do a Gundam crossover (and all other IP crossovers for that matter) I'd much rather prefer they distribute it the same way they did Godzilla in Ikoria: La...

Re: Standard Meta Discussion

It really shouldn't have to be the MTG community's responsibility to tell Wizards of the Coast how to do their job when it comes to maintaining balance within Standard when all it does is show just how incompetent they are. First they ban Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath last week only to wait 2-3 days ...

Re: October 12 B&R Update: Ding Dong, Omnath is Dead.

So why are Wizards of the Coast having to ban valuable cards whenever a new Standard set is released? Maybe it's because of the people that the company hires who don't have the necessary skill set nor the experience of ever playing MTG. If a Wizards of the Coast employee's entire job at Play Design ...

Kenrith, the Returned King 2.0

My last take on Kenrith, the Returned King wasn't as consistent as I thought it'd be when running an Angel subtheme that I tried to get to work since it was supposed to be on flavor with Kenrith himself representing Jesus Christ. Then I thought about trying to go with just Angel tokens so I might ve...

Just How Important is MTG Lore To You?

Considering that MTG seems to be entering the IP Crossover era with Godzilla in Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths and now Walking Dead in Secret Lair how much does the lore of MTG mean to you? Back when I started playing Paper Magic I didn't really think much of it until Lorwyn introduced Planeswalkers as a...

Re: What bothers you most about the Walking Dead commanders?

To add onto my point earlier, I'm not sure If money changed hands directly between the Rules Committee and Wizards of the Coast. It is possible that the Rules Committee was profiting off of their decision to rubber stamp anything Hasbro wants to do to the players. Jobs, interview fees, merchandise, ...

Re: What bothers you most about the Walking Dead commanders?

There's literally no reason that this is the case. One member of the RC works for Wizards, the rest do not. If that's your evidence, it's hardly new and it isn't particularly compelling. Aside from that, they're not the bad guys here, they take enough %$#% in general, so honestly this just feels li...

Re: Update from Rules Committee re: The Walking Dead Cards

I probably wouldn't have as much of a problem with IP crossovers in MTG If Wizards of the Coast had an official poll to determine what intellectual properties are about to be put into the game where the community actually has a voice on the matter instead of just Wizards of the Coast picking a rando...

Re: Update from Rules Committee re: The Walking Dead Cards

Either way the advent of IP crossovers might mean that MTG as we know it is dying for real this time around. We always assumed that "MTG dying" meant Wizards of the Coast going out of business due to no one wanting to play anymore. In reality, it's a planned euthanasia committed upon the g...

Re: Update from Rules Committee re: The Walking Dead Cards

The problem I see with the potential for a new independent rules committee for a new casual format like Captain is that eventually Wizards of the Coast is going to get them in the same position as the EDH / Commander Rules Committee when getting them to go along with their sales tactics. The odds of...
