Re: Best, recent, simple but good commander…

Thanks for the response. This is interesting also for what catches the eyes of others as interesting and simple. Yes simple is subjective, for me that means what the commander does is intuitive and doesn't require a lot of hoops to jump through or a lot of bookkeeping. Isshin is a great example, oh ...

Re: Best, recent, simple but good commander…

Éowyn, Shieldmaiden human tribal is simple, powerful, and can be built a number of different ways. I also like that she's #249 on EDHREC and not everyone is running her. She's good. I played against the precon and it was solid. Will have to consider. Don Andres, the Renegade is cool. I like the ide...

Best, recent, simple but good commander…

I used to be one to make convoluted decks, embracing complex legendary creatures. But Dr. Who might have jumped the shark in terms of complex=fun for me. Or maybe it was my attempt to build the Stranger Things partners. I'm called to decently powered but simple commanders of yore - Ruric Thar, the U...

Re: A Feast For Hobbits; Frodo & Sam's Meals on the Go

I'm curious what the final incarnation of this will be for you. I love abzan token +1/+1 value aristocrat combo decks, and have built a few. I always struggle with trying to narrow it down from token +1/+1 value aristocrat combo... All of those strategies work well with the pieces of a deck like thi...

Re: Shanid, Sleepers' Scourge

I appreciate your thread as I'm on a similar journey with what has been a Kelsien, the Plague deck for a couple of years. The main problem is that Kelsien is seen as a major threat from the CZ and so I've added other experience counters legends to the deck to give it other ways to up the count. All ...

Re: Big Timmy Style: Xenagos, Double Stuffed Ohnoeos

An out of the box suggestion for Valakut Exploration . This card does work even without fetchlands, though cracking your Wooded Foothills at the end of soemone's turn and having your card available then is pretty sweet. I think of it as a red Phyrexian Arena. Yes you have to play the card this turn,...

Re: RRR: Rashmi Ragavan aRtifact Lantern Control

I agree that Rashmi is underrated, building her myself, but with a bend toward treasures and winning with Rise and Shine and friends. I'm worried I'm reading the card wrong. As far as I can tell you only get the treasure when you cast your first spell on your turns. I'd love it if it was every turn!...

Re: Human tribal suggestions

I've had a Selesnya humans and angels deck forever headed by the OG Sigarda and this new one they printed is just everything I've always wanted for the deck. Being able to cast humans off the top and then protecting them is just clutch. I'm running Angel of Glory's Rise + Fiend Hunter combo in my Te...

Alternate Planechase Rules

My group played a couple of games of planechase this weekend. It's been half a decade since I've played planechase and I forgot why it's so annoying! It feels like a good concept with poor execution. I like the variance the planes add to the game, but man getting stuck on one for 3 turn cycles is a ...

Re: Ways to reduce Encore/Embalm/Eternalize (besides Convergence of Dominion)

Okay, different approach. What ways are there to generate mana using the gy as a resource. Let's assume I'm milling a bunch to get my encore/eternalize type cards in the gy, so it'll be pretty full of fodder.

(edit) Found Songs of the Damned as a decent option so far.

Re: Ways to reduce Encore/Embalm/Eternalize (besides Convergence of Dominion)

Thanks for the ideas. Somehow I'd missed Embalmer's Tools so that's an easy include. I think Toshi your idea might be the best, just include ways to gather and produce mana. I don't foresee activating any of the gy abilities early game so there'd be time to get counters on something like Black marke...

Ways to reduce Encore/Embalm/Eternalize (besides Convergence of Dominion)

I like Encore as a mechanic, and want to use it in my Soundwave, Sonic Spy // Soundwave, Superior Captain deck, but it's kind of a nerfed mechanic because of the steep activation cost. Been searching around on scryfall, and I know about Convergence of Dominion , but that's the only way I can see of ...

Re: Secret Commander Fable of Wolf and Owl deck, is there a better general than Chulane?

I forgot about Ethereal Usher , which I have pretty foil of. Yeah it's not mana efficient, but it's an option. I think Moritte and Adrix both go in the deck if not the helm. There are a few Intuition options. The more I think about adding a third color the less I want dead cards that won't trigger F...

Lots of interesting info in the lands' flavour texts. My favourite has to be Bloodfell Caves|MOM though. Is this whole thing just because Elesh Norn really wants to get high? Secret Commander Fable of Wolf and Owl deck, is there a better general than Chulane?

Title says what my goal is, I love Fable of Wolf and Owl and want it to be my secret commander hidden in the 99 (not really interested in rule zero actually make it my commander), with token doublers and synergies and and overrun or two, or +1/+1 counters, or both. Obviously my focus is on casting b...

Re: Yes, my commander is a cassette player - Galaxy-Brain Soundwave

Lethal Scheme and Mask of Riddles made it into my version. I know Scheme might be questionable because without vigilance you have to convoke/connive without attacking, but I like how connive lets you specifically bump up a creature. Considering recursion/from the gy options as I mill myself. Of cou...

My Kelsien deck has morphed into that, playing all yhe experience counter creatures in mardu. It adds nice consistency for a general that gets hated out pretty quickly.

Re: Yes, my commander is a cassette player - Galaxy-Brain Soundwave

Been wanting to build this myself and am probably going to try something close to your list. I especially like the swords giving evasion and bumping up token p/t. I've never played Celestial Judgment and am curious if you find it usually a one-sided wipe, or one-sided enough to do work? It seems an ...

Re: Baeloth Barrityl, Raised by Giants (Primer Formatted: 10/11/22)

I watched a recent youtube video with this combo, and as one might expect people kept killing Baeloth because nobody likes to be controlled by someone else's commander. I know your point is for it to be straight forward without a ton of interaction besides ramp and replay Baeloth, but Heroic Interve...

These responses are exactly what I was looking for, thanks all! Nobilis of War makes me want to play the other hybrid avatars. Godhead of Awe is one with such a unique almost Humility effect. Dominus of Fealty lets me steal a creature and then donate it, no Zedruu trigger, but can still use his abil...

Fun and classic beef to play in jeskai

Zedruu decks always have a "trick" to them right? The "oh I'm giving you stuff but you know I'm going to use that to my advantage in the end or combo off or some mean thing" deck. I do that too with mine, but have been itching to try something new. Actually giving good cards to t...

Re: Yes, my commander is a cassette player - Galaxy-Brain Soundwave [Brainstorming]

Chaos Wand seems on theme and good for getting spells in opponent's gy. Nice because you can target the spellcaster deck. I agree ramp isn't super important because some of the first few spells you're going to hit out of graveyards are 2 and 3 drop ramp spells. I really dig this deck idea, but you'...
