Anyone still actively playing Modern? How things look?
Paper magic is pretty much dead this side of the world outside EDH. No standard/modern/pioneer/legacy pretty much at all

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Honestly bans aren't going to fix anything, modern is being broken by standard almost every 1-2 sets. Do we really want to have the same number of bans that standard is currently seeing? because honestly it's kind of a joke. There needs to be a more permanent solution for the game as a whole or ther...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

We can only pray magic is actually playable after COVID is over.
I only hope paper magic is still alive then as wizards seem to be doing a real good job at killing the game

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Well apparently there was an announcement for an update to Standard that I totally missed. 100% Uro gets banned Monday in Standard. Should alleviate some of the apprehensions for buying in for Modern, but honestly... I don't think it's safe here either. Which is a shame. Uro piles have probably bee...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I have a feeling there's going to be a massive boom in terms of players attending events in person as soon as some sense of "proper normality" is back. Not just magic, but in general too (I would kill to go to a concert again soon...) For somebody as negative and bitter as me, I'm pretty ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Forgot to say this. Hard to believe Noble Hierarch is only 15-17 dollars now... it used to be a 50 dollar card. I guess double masters reprint + low activity of the format due to pandemic helped bring the price down waiting for it to drop a little more.. then might get some. :) Honestly between mas...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I mean I personally have sold out of the game for the moment and probably won't buy in again until this is all over. With how often this format changes due to standard I can see Modern being a completely different format by the time paper magic is actually viable again. Honestly I think we are being...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

No matter if it's dangerous or not. We need to see and accept first reality. Fun is meanwhile one of the main reasons and we fooling ourselves ignoring this while talking about possible bans (unbans) While true in the instance of Pioneer the format was on it's death bed with nothing for it firing o...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Of course Double Masters has a Mox Opal reprint now after banning the card. Honestly still think banning this card was a massive issue and there was many other paths they could have taken. They even returned and banned Astrolabe like they should have in the first place anyway

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Not to mention Pioneer itself is probably the format in the worst possible state right now right behind standard. That format needs some serious loving but instead gets worse and worse each set just like Legacy and Modern. These past 18 months have shown nothing but my inability to trust anything Wi...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

How can anyone even attempt to defend Wizards anymore with how bad this %$#% has gotten. 4/6 of the cards on the current standard banlist are UG colors and despite this the only color combination thats good in standard is UGx. Honestly how does it even get to this point Surely this is something that...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I see no reason why we should ban anything other than Veil (and maybe T3feri, %$#% that card) at the moment. The moment that Discard and Counterspells are relevant again, Modern can breathe again. Most people that I've seen calling for bans is calling for Arcum's Astrolabe and nothing else. :thinki...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

See as much as people ask in these threads for them to ban Astrolabe I honestly don't think they will do it in either Modern or Legacy simply for the fact that it allows cheaper manabases. There's quite a few cards you could bane before banning Astrolabe anyway

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Worth another note is that CFB events is being dissolved, what this means for paper magic we will yet see. Things do seem to be going from bad to worse though for paper magic in general What? That sounds terrible. I hope this is not true or just temporary. Yes it's horrible and there's a thread on ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

So when will enough be enough? Wizards has clearly changed in the last few years and it keeps getting worse. We complained about 2019 being the worst but look at us now and look at the fact that wizards now releases new paper product endlessly. I mean just today they revealed 5 secret lairs(21 have ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

That said, if you are looking an alternative to Modern, I agree with idSurge that Historic is one. I would also add Pioneer, but I get that until it makes it's way through arena(that will probably need 6 months to a year to incorporate all those sets), we can wait. What makes you think it will take...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Their Twitter is blowing up a bit at the moment. Honestly as much as I hate it the only way to get wizards to do something is bandwaggoning and making it very very visible on both twitter and reddit. I know I said something simillar a couple pages back but this really has to be reinforced.

It's interesting that we have gone so far down the rabbit hole that we now dread new set releases instead of being excited for any new decks or archetypes it might introduce

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I just came to the realisation (as others have I guess) that if they ban just Lurrus in modern, Yorion decks will absolutely take over modern. Bant Snow was far and away the best deck before companions, and if Lurrus goes, the already best deck just got a massive upgrade. Same is true for Yorion Sc...
