Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
Is See the Truth a playable card in Modern? Seems like a great interaction with Snap but slow from the hand. Late game for more gas is good.

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
Titans made Thought Scour that much more unnecessary. Drown should be even better now. Kaya's Guile too.

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)
Meh if it's isn't common knowledge i'd chalk it up to rumor. Someone at my LGS was talking about it as thought it were a well known fact. Whther it's fact or rumor, the existince of Pioneer is an acknowledgment of Magic's biggest problem: thousands of cards that are not good enough to play in a leg...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
I honestly think playing 3-4 Drown is viable. In many cases it is a clean counterspell and functions very good in creature MUs, too. I run 4 and I enjoy them. Its main weakness is Rest in Piece, which does not see that much play atm. Drown is going to be amazing in Standard with TBD. Dimir kinda su...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
I'm not giving up on Esper - too much invested. But it feels like a good time to experiment. Kunoros, Hound of Athreos looks like promising tech for a more mid-rangy build.

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
I like Oko, but I hate both Urza and Veil. I honestly think Veil was an egregious design mistake. Totally agree on Veil. That card has three sentences. Pick any one of them and make that the effect, and it's powerful but fair. Any two are OP, and all three together are format-defining. It might as ...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
Oko is still a huge problem on his own, since he makes a 3/3 every other turn with no mana investment past his initial cast. They plus for a food, and then elk their own food token. Both abilities are also a plus, so pressuring with manlands both takes forever and opens us up to a resolved Urza. Th...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
To awake this thread from its slumber: What is your guys opinion on Esper's positioning right now? IMO and to my experience, we kinda struggle vs. Urza and Oko decks, for the latter I am planning to pack 1-2 Nixious Grasp in the side. However, Field of the Dead seems rough for us, any ideas to hand...

Re: Edgar Markov
Here's my current Eddie deck. While not as recklessly fast as some of the junk creature builds that are trying to be cEDH, all of these creatures meaningfully contribute, and the curve is fast enough to take advantage of Edgar's efficiency. I've packed in several theme-appropriate sacrifice engines ...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
It doesn't only kill burn. I hate having to discard more than anything, and for the handful of decks that play discard I am prepared. I like the card. My local meta is not very predictable. Nobody plays Tron by me. I haven't run in to Urza yet. People play burn, prowess, humans, sultai, titanshift, ...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
Leyline ? That seems so bad tbh. Why would we run that card and no other control list ever has? I guess its bad if you don't like having two decks scoop before T1. For the cost of one card it kills discard, burn, Valakut, 8rack, Walking Ballista. Why are we judging what we run based on what other c...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
I take it you mean Spell Pierce ? Because Spell Snare doesn't help against Oko, Thief of Crowns . Yes, thanks. And your points about Veil of Summer are very well taken. If our opponent is impatient we can take advantage, but if they wait just one extra turn to cast Oko then they can back it up with...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
Also came up against T2 Oko.................... utterly miserable. Need some new answers. Either Mystical Dispute for 1 CMC counter or perhaps the discard package. What do ppl think? Unmoored Ego post board... I think that between Force of Negation and Thoughtseize, and perhaps Spell Snare, if we k...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
I think Azcanta is far better then the castles. Spellbomb is nice but Tormonds crypt is better most of the time since its 0 mana and you can play it on 4. We can agree to diasagree. The Castles drawback is minimal, imo, and it seems like the black one was made with Esper Draw-Go in mind. Anyway, I'...

With regards to this list im going to try this tuesday (I made a few changes in the main and sb: replaced damnation with supreme veredict and removed the single copy of FoR for the 2nd copy of Colonnade. Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
I think Field of Ruin isn't as useful at this stage in the overall meta at the moment, so I have cut mine out entirely. At the moment, I much prefer running clean mana that gives me the colours I need rather than a generic colour, because early on if i need X or Y colour, Field doesn't help me in g...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
Well, I take notes. Mostly little ones on what I am playing, how many times people mulled. If there was any flooding or mana screw on either side. What cards I see in their hand. If I did or didn't see a card like Kaya's Guile against Burn and if either side made a big misplay. I have played 6 main...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
I am amazed at all of these writeups where you guys remember what was in your opponents' hands. I don't have that kind of memory, but I'll just add that Drown in the Loch is the truth! That card did so much work for me last night it was crazy. I never felt the need to build in discard beyond Thought...

(Trying out the cool "Deck" tag for the first time!) Here's the list I'm bringing to FNM tomorrow. I'm not in love with Karn but I own the combo so no harm in giving it a try. My LGS meta tends towards aggro. Lands 1 Blast Zone 1 Celestial Colonnade 2 Creeping Tar Pit 3 Polluted Delta 4 Fl...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
I think you have too many Snapcasters (same for Jeremy), they bring good flexibility but a mit full of them is not awesome. Think of it this way, Snapcaster adds 2cmc to every card it touches. Do you want to add four 3cmc Opts to your list? What about 6cmc Cryptics? I would err on the x2 side of th...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
Don't forget that the GY count is almost always at least 1 due to fetch by the time Drown comes online for us, and very likely 2 if we have used any T1 discard/counter/removal. That hits a lot of targets in Modern! Pretty obviously, Drown was developed to work in a meta where Faithless Looting was p...

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control
There are two kinds of "stoneblade" decks: Those that want to be a control deck, which are both bad and popular, and there are those that want to be a midrange deck. Thank you, Amalek0! I reread your post four times to make sure I understood it all - so much excellent analysis! Are we boa...
