Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange

I'm at 36 lands with the 2 MDFCs. Would you say drop the 2 MDFC's and make them straight lands instead? I would like to add Binding Mummy & Vampiric Tutor. Totally open for cuts to add in skullclamp and altar as well. If I were you I would find some cuts for a couple pieces of early game draw o...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange

Okay this thread made me create an account because dang lots of useful information in this thread. I've tried to make Wilhelt, Scarab God and Gisa&Geralf into a aggro zombie swarm and I think Varina is what I actually want to play. Gonna take another long read through the whole thread, but any ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Karametra's Acolyte

I don't mind it if you have a lot of untap synergies. I almost ran it in my Zimone, Quandrix Prodigy tap dudes deck, but wound up on Krosan Restorer type guys instead. Just a bit more reliable.

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftan, Abzan Value Midrange

Cactus Preserve is one of the best manlands we have seen in a while, but I'm not sure what it does for Karador's strategy. I guess it can do some post-wipe beats with hefty 8/8 stat line, but I am not sure that it worth the land slot here when there are so many other utility lands looking for homes...

I have been really warming to the karoos lately. The virtual card advantage plus extra landfall they provide is often really good. :D

Re: SCD: Brainstorm

Man you should run more Ponder , might as well be demonic tutor for how often it gets me out of jams :D if my deck runs blue as a main color it's running preordain and ponder. (20 ish blue sources) I don't remember losing a lot of games where I kept a turn one ponder. Might be my favorite turn one p...

Re: Big Timmy Style: Xenagos, God of Elementary Mathematics

Fair, but that just means your group is more competitive than mine. Yeah I think more than most. But in general I think commander's "at large meta" is becoming more removal heavy over time - my experience with pickup games is a decent amount of targeted removal. That said, part of this de...

Re: Big Timmy Style: Xenagos, God of Elementary Mathematics

Xenagos + Malignus + OG Nylea + Defense of the Heart = alpha strike from hell. You have Xenagos, so search the other two. I used that recently, hit a friend for 44 trample. Next turn hit the next friend for 37, and then the following turn the next friend for 56. Stupid levels of stoopid. Coo...

Re: SCD: Brainstorm

My short answer is that the ability to run them in place of more lands makes it usually right. 1 CMC cantrips are probably underrated by most players. Getting a land right now is the main reason to play Preordain Ponder and Brainstorm in most blue decks. That said, they really only belong in decks w...

Re: Big Timmy Style: Xenagos, God of Elementary Mathematics

I believe the first ability continues to trigger until he is unblocked, not just once a turn. They have to throw 8 toughness in front of him to kill him during a single combat step or he just gets bigger. If you have the mana to activate his second ability and you have a single opponents with mostl...

Re: Big Timmy Style: Xenagos, Double Stuffed Ohnoeos

How the f uck has actually nobody here or in the "old" topic talked about Anzrag, the Quake-Mole ? It is basically the best creature ever printed for Xenagos. It is an basically a 4 Mana unblockable 16 damage. With Xenagos buff he is beafy enough to attack into someone who would be foolis...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Planar Collapse

I have played this card a lot and it always surprises people. You loop it with Hall of Heliod's Generosity in Heliod, God of the Sun and it's GGs a lot of the time.

annnd it's a Muddle the Mixture target in UWx enchantments :D yay

Re: Thrasios and Tormod's Field of the Dead

Enchantment sac outlets in BUG? Attrition , Erebos, Bleak-Hearted , Vampiric Rites Better sac outlets: Yawgmoth, Thran Physician , Spawning Pit , I've been liking Disciple of Griselbrand as a fair sac outlet. Token makers Curse of the Restless Dead , Chalk Outline huh curse is actually pretty cool,...

Re: Raffine Brainstorming

Living Death could also be nice. I am a little torn so far on whether this is a single target reanimation or mass reanimation deck; On one hand I think there's an Open the Vaults // Replenish deck using enchantments to make tokens, that could win with a massive Opalescence // Starfield of Nyx type ...

Re: Thrasios and Tormod's Field of the Dead

So I'm working on tuning this deck down just a little; can anyone think of any sacrifice outlets akin to Evolutionary Leap ? I feel like I'd like...maybe one more solid enchantment sac outlet that I can use to replace the powerhouse altars, as I retune the mana generation to include more Cryptolith ...

Re: Raffine Brainstorming

I saw the "Planeswalker token makers" and you could go Ascend from Avernus , Command the Dreadhorde , Primevals' Glorious Rebirth , Triumphant Reckoning to lean heavily into this theme. This is a pretty legit idea! Might have to acquire some walkers but definitely doable. I used to have B...

Re: Raffine Brainstorming

I am a sucker for reanimator builds. There is a Sefris of the Hidden Ways thread that plays the reanimator theme with lots of looting. Might be worth a look for some inspiration on that strategy in esper. I mean, if your not cheating the mana cost on an 8-drop, what are you even doing with your lif...

long term, I bet you the super interest in CEDH leads to discussions about the RL, and I think that's only good for the game most likely. It's always possible finally caving on the RL busts the game open but who knows.

Re: Raffine Brainstorming

I could possibly see leaning hard into the reanimator side of things. The fact that you get to throw away things sets the rez effects up easily. The self recurring things like Bloodghast are easy but I was also thinking reanimator in the idea of like filtering some big fat juicy creatures to grave ...

Raffine Brainstorming

So I have three decks floating in the esper colors (orzhov breena, esper varina, esper tivit). these decks are collectively problematic in my current playgroup: * Breena has problems with countermagic and creates extremely agonizingly long games * Tivit is...tivit. C'mon, why did I do that. * Varina...

SCD: Recurring Nightmare

Recurring Nightmare I was surprised not to see an SCD for this given how much discussion it had in the thread. Here's my high level thought: This card does not belong anywhere near the banlist on power level or even ubiquity in our modern world. It was never really all that strong, and graveyard ha...
