Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Runechanter's Pike
I feel like I would always default to Glamdring if this effect is something I cared about. For 1 more mana on the equip you get a pretty significant upgrade, I think. I've still got this Aragorn, King of Gondor spellslinger brewing in my head that probably wants both. A huge vigilant first striker ...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
If you are on the aggro bandwagon, it doesn't get much better than flipping Wonder off of a Varina trigger. Filth and Glory are also not too bad really, in their own way. I'd definitely play Filth on an aggro plan since black is very common and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is useful to us. And Glory ha...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
I think it's totally reasonable to be running more lords here. Varina doesn't have to be built leaning into combo so hard. I actually like that the deck can very easily pivot amongst aggro, aristocrats, and combo. It just depends on how efficient you want to be, how aggressive/cutthroat. For myself...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
I should have given @pokken a shout out here as I believe I heard this from him. I'm starting to forget stuff I write in this thread it's getting so long :D Universal Automaton is ridiculously legit, esp. if you're on the Haakon, Stromgald Scourge train. iirc, Undead Warchief enables Phyrexian Alta...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Runechanter's Pike
It's still a strong card and I think there's another similar one. Definitely a deck for spellslinger swords (or more than one, really).

All my cards came in so I managed to get an update made to the OP! The "add" list - Interaction Suite wild magic surge delayed blast fireball tibalt's trickery tyvar's stand Rampaging yao-guai I like WMS being any target, and DBF is very flexible. Trickery is more stack in interaction but ...

I think this specific topic deserves a second reply just for posterity re: Anzrag, the Quake-Mole and Quartzwood Crasher How exactly are these the same as Defense of the Heart? They don't win the game until you get to untap, because... Quartzwood Crasher requires you to get to untap with the dinosau...

Also how is Bard class okay and slyvan is not? :D Just cherrypicking this one thing that shows you didn't read the thread -- Bard Class is on the cut list along with all the permanents that need to stick around. I think we have proven that not to be the case with a look at his Regal Behemoth take I...

I wish we could go back to the days of sets not having much in your face story except what's going on on the plane, exploring the unique features and mechanics of the environment and painting a picture of the world instead of this "let's retell popular culture in Magic form to coast on waves of...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
Hey, also new here. Have a Gisa and Geralf Zombie Deck but always been interested in a Varina Deck. I noticed most of your decks just run 1-2 Lords. Is there a reason for not running more? I also saw some people mention a combo with Nevinyrral, Urborg Tyrant. How does that work? I generelly prefer ...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
I'm at 36 lands with the 2 MDFCs. Would you say drop the 2 MDFC's and make them straight lands instead? I would like to add Binding Mummy & Vampiric Tutor. Totally open for cuts to add in skullclamp and altar as well. If I were you I would find some cuts for a couple pieces of early game draw o...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
Okay this thread made me create an account because dang lots of useful information in this thread. I've tried to make Wilhelt, Scarab God and Gisa&Geralf into a aggro zombie swarm and I think Varina is what I actually want to play. Gonna take another long read through the whole thread, but any ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Karametra's Acolyte
I don't mind it if you have a lot of untap synergies. I almost ran it in my Zimone, Quandrix Prodigy tap dudes deck, but wound up on Krosan Restorer type guys instead. Just a bit more reliable.

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftan, Abzan Value Midrange
Cactus Preserve is one of the best manlands we have seen in a while, but I'm not sure what it does for Karador's strategy. I guess it can do some post-wipe beats with hefty 8/8 stat line, but I am not sure that it worth the land slot here when there are so many other utility lands looking for homes...

Man you should run more Ponder , might as well be demonic tutor for how often it gets me out of jams :D if my deck runs blue as a main color it's running preordain and ponder. (20 ish blue sources) I don't remember losing a lot of games where I kept a turn one ponder. Might be my favorite turn one p...

Re: Big Timmy Style: Xenagos, God of Elementary Mathematics
Fair, but that just means your group is more competitive than mine. Yeah I think more than most. But in general I think commander's "at large meta" is becoming more removal heavy over time - my experience with pickup games is a decent amount of targeted removal. That said, part of this de...

Re: Big Timmy Style: Xenagos, God of Elementary Mathematics
Xenagos + Malignus + OG Nylea + Defense of the Heart = alpha strike from hell. You have Xenagos, so search the other two. I used that recently, hit a friend for 44 trample. Next turn hit the next friend for 37, and then the following turn the next friend for 56. Stupid levels of stoopid. Coo...

Re: SCD: Brainstorm
My short answer is that the ability to run them in place of more lands makes it usually right. 1 CMC cantrips are probably underrated by most players. Getting a land right now is the main reason to play Preordain Ponder and Brainstorm in most blue decks. That said, they really only belong in decks w...

Re: Big Timmy Style: Xenagos, God of Elementary Mathematics
I believe the first ability continues to trigger until he is unblocked, not just once a turn. They have to throw 8 toughness in front of him to kill him during a single combat step or he just gets bigger. If you have the mana to activate his second ability and you have a single opponents with mostl...
