Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Archfiend of Depravity
This was in every GBx goodstuff deck for a year after its release before people realized it kinda honked. It's fine in Mazirek, I guess?

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Archivist of Gondor
Saw this run away with a game in an odd Esior/Kediss fast voltron list one time. Blue generally has an excess of draw and is more willing to wait, though, so while this this isn't bad, it's niche just by virtue of opportunity cost.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sen Triplets
As a rule "choose target opponent" is a recipe for disaster. There's also a play pattern that this and other cards that go-off by screwing with a particular opponent create, where the person playing them gets desperate to let their deck do its thing after being preemptively stopped as a t...

The only Sen Triplets decks I saw were Turns, which did not endear them to me

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Nezumi Graverobber
I thought the technique of the day was to empty the yard, then use his ability on the first binned card after it was empty. . . Yep, or if you wanted to be really technical, exile their yard when they cast an instant/sorcery, then Nezumi that when it resolves. I find Doctor Who to be one of the wor...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Nezumi Graverobber
I think part of Nezumi Graverobber's fall is that games play much more efficiently than they did 10 years ago. I'm more likely to run Heap Doll or Soul-Guide Lantern as dedicated hate than something like this. I remember Tormods Crypt and Bog being used to flip him. His first side was always medioc...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
There's enough 1/1s for one with deathtouch and upside now I reckon that the archetype just needs a G/B general to scoop them all up. But yeah, I don't imagine I'll be seeing much of Tinybones in the zone himself.

Re: Was WotC's embrace of Commander a good thing?
I think this was a net negative for EDH, but a positive for MtG on the whole. The Pod/Twin bans, and Modern since, not to mention how they manage Standard, have shown that WotC will prioritize sales over format health: the independent RC is the only reason EDH has avoided rotation-by-banning. As ann...

For once I agree with Dirk. The new team seems more pragmatic and less personalistic. I hope they unban Gifts.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Flotsam is random junk floating in the ocean, and jetsam is random junk jettisoned from boats. "Flotsam and jetsam" is thus a term for random manmade junk that washes up on the beach.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Hallowed Burial
This has definitely fallen since the tuck rule change, but it's still solid. I think Farewell is the new gold standard now though.

It's amazing how much they feel like someone's custom card designs from ~2010, down to the screenshot-looking art.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Grand Master of Flowers
Yeah, I'd put this in the bad-but-playable camp. It's not worth running but if someone especially likes it for whatever reason, they're not gonna be substantially hurt by sticking it in a deck. I feel like that niche contributes substantially to the diversity of decks.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might is some sweet design. I'm typically not drawn to the "make burn work in EDH" commanders, and this one is no different but whole transform into a land when it dies, and transform it back if you meet certain conditions is really cool. I hope this will be a full 5 ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Oriq Loremage
Yeah, this has enough potential to set up combos I will absolutely try to kill it before the turn cycles, and most people I play with agree. Repeatable tutors are spooky.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Pearl Lake Ancient
One of the classic control finishers. Outclassed of late by Nezahal, Primal Tide, but I've seen in obnoxious simic landfall piles to enable that.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Daring Apprentice
Having to tap to counter that spell makes it a lot less useful, even if it is a hard counter. I've seen this in U/B/x or U/W/x reanimator decks that try to play permission with it, but it needs some kind of haste-enabler for that. There are enough good tap-and-sac creatures though that abusing them...

Re: Who wants to talk about spite scooping?
Personally, I think the politics are more interesting when theft effects are contingent on the other player surviving. There's an Ixhel deck in my meta that played like a big "get along" shirt, trying to keep everyone in the game until it got a critical mass of stuff and could take everyon...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Goldbug, Humanity's Ally
These feel weird and hack. They read ugly, they look bad, and they play awkwardly. I don't get why they made the cards based on a childrens' cartoon some of the most fiddly generals this side of competitive Breya, because no-one has a good time while the guy who only watches childrens' shows flips t...
