Re: Topical Discussion of the Official Multiplayer Ban List

I think the best solution to the RL speculation dilemma would be to blanket allow proxies. Make them legal by default if they uphold a certain standard (readable oracle text, mana cost, etc) and point to Rule 0 for those players that dislike them. Of course, under the RC, that's never going to happe...

Re: Top 5 Current Commander Concerns or have another freak out over Sheldon's thoughts

@pokken would single-target ruination really be all that bad? I feel like the lower power decks wouldn't want it and the 75% and above would use it to punish those decks that skimped on basics. A check on the Golos player wouldn't be all that terrible, would it? And knowing you have the chance to g...

Re: Top 5 Current Commander Concerns or have another freak out over Sheldon's thoughts

That is the equivalent of saying Prophet of Kruphix is perfectly fine, this is a high variance format after all, but WotC should really stop printing cards like Seedborn Muse and Wilderness Reclamation, because they make virtual extra turns too consistent of a strategy. ....given that most Prophet ...

Re: Top 5 Current Commander Concerns or have another freak out over Sheldon's thoughts

One has to be a very special kind of dense to show Llanowar Elves, Arcane Signet, and Sol Ring as examples of fast mana, only to then say in the same passage, that the strongest of the three isn't in fact the problem, it's that there's too many of the other, weaker ones. No, I think this point is c...

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

The reason the moxen are banned and timetwister isn't is because the moxen would make virtually any deck that can legally run them stronger This applies to Sol Ring and Mana Crypt as well, since they actually make virtually any deck better. So there is precedent for the original Moxen to finally co...

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

I feel like there's basically 5 years tops before CEDH is the normal assumed power level and people intentionally power down sometimes, at the rate optimization is going. Only if the RL is abolished. So, no. I wouldn't be so sure of that. As RL speculation gets more and more egregious, proxies are ...

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

Timetwister could probably get the axe, if for no other reason than every other single piece of power is banned for "perceived barrier to entry" reasons for being ungodly expensive, ubiquitous, and iconic. Twister is now worth more than any other single piece of power besides Black Lotus,...

Re: Topical Discussion of the Official Multiplayer Ban List

Leovold, Emissary of Trest has been legal for nine months while being the fastest ban in the last several years, so I highly doubt Hullbreacher will be going anywhere in 2021 Lutri, the Spellchaser was banned before it's release... Just a point of order, Lutri was a special case where it was known ...

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

I may be the loyal opposition to the RC in terms of banlist philosophy but at least they have a philosophy. I dread the idea of WotC grabbing the reins and trying to balance the format while retaining its identity, which is functionally impossible. Leovold, Emissary of Trest is banned, while Hullbr...

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

You must be joking. If you think we're being squeezed by wotc for product now, imagine if they had creative direction over the format. They'd be straight up abusing us imho. At least Sheldon doesn't have a profit motive and corporate masters to answer to.... I am, unironically, absolutely serious a...

My point was about cards that actually were in the format, cards that we had to endure for months, if not years, while pretty much everyone knew they were bad. But yes, I have worded that poorly, my bad.

Will you look at that, yet another awful take. WotC should really have taken the reins of their most popular format rather than hand it to the guy who evidently doesn't care about it outside of his own playgroup.

Re: [SCD] Hullbreacher

Given the most recent update is "no changes until in store play, but we're watching some stuff", I'm willing to bet money this card was discussed. JLK famously hates the card, it produces eyerolls even in cEDH levels of play, and its in 2 popular tribes that will encourage its use. I also...

Re: Removing the ability to tuck commanders was a fundamental mistake the format has been paying for ever since.

the tuck rule should stay in forgotten obscurity, where it belongs. My reasons for this are the following, in no particular order: - From a flavor perspective: How come the exile, the "gone-for-good" zone is less of a deterrent to a commander than the library, a zone you are supposed to ha...

Re: Topical Discussion of the Official Multiplayer Ban List

If you honestly expect them to take these things into account and do something as extreme as a ban, then I'd say you're being, at best, unrealistic and at worst, willfully obtuse. Your expectations of them are a bridge too far. I didn't expect them to ban those cards. Based on their actions (or, mo...

Re: Topical Discussion of the Official Multiplayer Ban List

A problem we see with adopting a ban philosophy based on card availability is explaining it down the road. If, a year from now, someone stumbles across a copy of one of these cards, tries to use it and discovers that it is banned in Commander, they will ask why. And the explanation is unsatisfactor...

Re: Topical Discussion of the Official Multiplayer Ban List

Considering how long it takes the RC to take any form of actual action, aside from Lutri, the Spellchaser (which was on a technicality), I would be very surprised to see anything but a statement that acknowledges how upset parts of the community are, but that no action is required since the holy gra...

Re: What bothers you most about the Walking Dead commanders?

Why is "They set a precedent for printing black-bordered secret lair exclusives" not an option? That, to me, is the really egregious thing about them. The precedent for Wizards of the Coast to take full control of the EDH / Commander format from the Rules Committee in the near future accor...

Re: If you could make one change in Commander...

Just in case folks haven't heard us repeat this many times recently, commander damage isn't going anywhere. Should we interpret that as the rule won't change at all or that some variant will stick around? I remember this being said about Painter's Servant as well, so I'll take that with a grain of ...

Re: SCD: Library of Alexandria

Not needing turn 1-2 hate cards is "very casual"? Low bar. that one comes from personal experience. I stopped playing Commander for several months when the meta was spikey and cutthroat. When I gave it another try a lot of things had changed since then, and the abscence of having to have ...

Re: [Speculation] Ban List Update Prediction Thread

The worst thing about the card is that in more casual environments it'll just be annoying whenever someone resolves it. I can see someone doing something like fetching Expropriate , Time Stretch , and some other turns spell. It'll be annoying, and everybody will groan. That definitely sucks. But if...

Re: SCD: Library of Alexandria

First things first: I do not own a copy of Library of Alexandria . Proxies, however, are considered fair game where I usually play, so it's a cosmetic issue at worst. That said, I am 100% in favor of it staying banned. Forever. Here's why: 1) As some posters before me have pointed out: On turn 1, So...
