Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

The Debtors' Knell comparison is quite apt, which in turn cycles back to a recurring discussion in random card of the day. Decks are getting more synergistic and specialised, so you're not super likely to get something super relevant to what you want to do. That said, the bubbles for your guys are n...

Also, I may be eyeing a Sylvan Tutor for this deck at some point. Hopefully the increased availability will lower the price point a bit.
Huh? The what now? This hasn't been reprinted, to the best of my knowledge.

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Oh man, that thing's nasty with Intuition. Fail case is fetchland ramp, which is seriously not a bad fail case to have - your post had me entertain the thought of finding space for it myself mostly on the merit of that.

Re: Daxos the Returned - Enchantment Speed Bumps Galore

I don't tend to do much game coverage in the thread, especially if it's not attached to some sort of other discussion/update post. I'll try to document particularly memorable or unique things that happen. Given the fact I've got four years of Daxos under my belt, there probably won't be all that man...

Re: Daxos the Returned - Enchantment Speed Bumps Galore

07.12.2019 Change After more thought, Etchings of the Chosen is unfortunately not better than any of the cards earmarked for cuts when something better arises. Cathars' Crusade is admittedly the closest to the chopping block, but its inevitability is still preferable to what Etchings can bring to t...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

I had to winds early game hitting about 3 creatures each, first ever tactical winds, and it worked out fine. Got all three commanders and a world shaper and some more nonsense. Really set the table back despite the ramp. Think that's finally enough testimony to pull the swap trigger in Daxos. Thank...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Memory Jar

It's a card I'm quite hesitant to use, perhaps irrationally. I figure that if I pop this, people will draw a fresh set of seven, and seeing how all the pieces will go away at the end of turn then any instant speed interaction will just get pointed straight at me, messing with whatever my seven is en...

Re: Ponder vs Serum Visions

If forced to pick between the two, Ponder . The fact it goes 3 deep, with an option of 4 if you go for the shuffle, makes it preferable for providing options and immediately impacting the game. That said, I'd jam Preordain over either any day, and most likely Brainstorm too if in possession of shuff...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Forsake the Worldly

The sorcery-speed versions of all of these effects are not comparable in any way, imo. Especially o-ring, o-ring just sucks, no one should be playing that card in 2019 unless they're absolutely balls-to-the-wall on enchantments or something. Sup, I have a deck that runs 30 enchantments. O-Ring is n...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Forsake the Worldly

We're also on the same mana as Generous Gift . True, it may not exile, but it trumps it super hard in versatility. I look at the card and I see something out of a precon or what I imagine 2011 EDH was like. Jamming all the flexible overcosted pieces that aren't really that good, but are still ran be...

Re: Daxos the Returned - Enchantment Speed Bumps Galore

Yeah, Doom Whisperer is a mascot of the third phase of the deck, where going for reliable value to smooth out the gameplay experience became a major component. Faux- Top in regular day to day operations, dire dig in dire straits. Another aspect that helps with resilience is a bit more recursion and ...

Re: Daxos the Returned - Enchantment Speed Bumps Galore

Good points all around. My group isn't dumb as much as spot removal is finite and the deck's mana is ridiculous. Admittedly, we have been going lighter on perpetual removal spam, but if your removal's finite what good does just gunning the commander do? Daxos get shot out. Cool, recast him. Rinse, r...

Re: Marisi, Bully of Bullies

Hrm. I somehow don't feel they'll work too well here. You don't have all that much token production for Trostani to latch onto, and Ghired's frankly quite laughable as an offensive force, to the point where I'm stuck running various combat survival trash to make him not just vanish. Admittedly thing...

Re: Daxos the Returned - Enchantment Speed Bumps Galore

I'm surprised that I don't see a Etchings of the Chosen in the deck. Protects Daxos and pumps your Spiritmen with or without Daxos out on the field for XP. I can see where you're coming from. If this were 2016 Daxos, it'd probably find its way in here quite easily. However, these days the list has ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sword of the Animist

Yeah, that's a pretty good description. This is one for a very specific subset of deck - one that can chase out creatures early so this can be carried into battle ASAP, one that's slow and grindy, one that's fixated on getting as much mana as possible. My Daxos checks all these boxes, and Sword of R...

Re: Marisi, Bully of Bullies

Ayy, Flying Anvil. It should serve you okay here, for the reasons you've outlined. I've only ever gotten along with Hall of the Bandit Lord in terms of haste lands, as it's the least tempo lost, but it also comes with the whole life-paying angle and ridiculous Kamigawa scarcity overhead.

Re: Underused Cards in EDH

Righteous Aura (413 decks) This thing started life in my Daxos the Returned as a crack stuffer pulled out of a bulk box at an LGS. Cheap enchantment that kinda does something? In it goes. Soon proved itself to be quite versatile, dissuading voltrons, nondescript fat and even acting as an occasional...

Re: The importance of "having an answer" in your deck

I'm not following your logic here. Answer density has nothing to do with the deck's win plan. Just to illustrate, my Feather and Ghired both pack extremely similar removal suites. One is a horribly uninteractive cast spam machine, the other is straight-faced aggro. If you look at linearity from a co...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

If you like Rule of Law / Stony Silence , why not just jam them? Sure, they're not creatures, so you won't get Ephara draws, but as enchantments they also happen to die less easily, so there's that. Also, how have you been finding the drawback of Winds of Abandon , i.e. the fact everybody else now g...

Re: The importance of "having an answer" in your deck

I'd also say that the 80/20 rule applies here - if you consider the amount of interaction necessary to solve 100% of all situations, you can probably solve 80% of those problems with 20% of the interaction. Pretty much this - removal needs to be universal, and catch most sensible scenarios. There's...

It's actually a little funny how in spite of 1600+ reprint slots, Three Visits hasn't made it in. Due to P3K's extreme scarcity, that's a card that would actually benefit from being reprinted in here. I'm unsure how to interpret the value of this set. Most of the mythics are above a tenner (hiked MS...
