Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

It absolutely is a result of the bans, having combo decks requiring specific answer into tier 1 keeps many decks out of Meta as evidenced by the success of mono g and niv

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

it's wonderfull that they used their senses instead of silly excel sheets that pretty much tells us nothing about the things that actually matter like gameplay and the overall format experience yes all of the combo decks were individually fine by any known metric, they still needed to be banned? why...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

it's a strange situation the format is in: everyone seemed to think that Inverter is so banned when the anouncement came, wotc instead unbaned something (the ridiculous mantra 'no bans unbans instead/make the banlist as short as possible' is something the players have been parroting for ages in mode...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

the Heliod/Ballista combo is actually trickier than it appears because even though it is easy to answer if he just goes for it as soon as possible, the more mana the heliod player accumulates the more likely it becomes he can win with your removal on the stack generally thinking magic in terms of an...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

imo the key word here is synergy: threats synergize and their sum is greater than their parts looking at pioneer's threats individually, in a hypothetical midrange shell, most of them are almost cute when compared to things like TS which is a monster answer in the format's context (and ironically us...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

well when some people say something they mean something else, for example answer=counterspell... in general when answers are pushed too far in power they tend to become what you described as 'prison cards': they answer not only the existing 'problem' but the future ones too, ofc those answers are us...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

M21 in general seems to be an increase to the power level of answers which spells good news for all formats but especially Pioneer, as essentially we're getting answers for problems that do not yet exist, signaling a dramatic shift into the relative level of answers in the format we're already in ov...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

that Lurrus needs to be banned like in every other non-rotating format, that thing is just broken for Yorion i just can't decide yet whether he's a powerful card that improves a number of slower and interactive strategies or a problem for the format, the rest of the companions are completely fine so...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

you mean the pressence of people who haven't played the game for years and still keep complaining about it because they literally have so little respect for their (apparently abundant) free time is detrimental to meanigful discussions? shocking! that said this time there are alot of things to dislik...

Re: What reprints would you put in Pioneer Horizons?

can we get the 'no thanks' option? after the travesty of modern horizons i really would not feel comfortable with a similar set in pioneer 1)the power level of such sets is way too high, the slightest mistake will lead to layers of 'brokeness' and entire cycles of bannings that will possible cost us...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

funny thing is that players have been %$#% for ages in modern about cards that were 'never given a chance' and 'let's unban most cards and only ban what HAS TO be banned' are extremely popular lines that you'll find everywhere and wotc did exactly this: every card got a chance, even obvious bans and...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

it's true that so far pioneer has been mostly a paper format and the covid timing upon the introduction of a new format was unfortunate but still it won't matter in the longterm I don't think as many people are actively pushing against Pioneer as you are suggesting throughout this post. A triple co...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

why all those hysterics about the companions really? especially by modern players of all people? you guys have survived a format with: Storm, Dredge (for quite some time with Looting), Tron,Veil of Summer, Amulet Titan, Hogaak, Eldrazi, 8th-9th GODLIKE designs like bloom/bridge/boil <3 and the likes...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Why do People keep parroting weird opinions about answers is beyond me... Is it so Hard to grasp that answers have No power level on a vacuum but only a relative one to the threats they're called to deal with? Modern is plagued by big mana decks that effectively Win on t3, super linear aggro decks t...

[Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

The lack of answers argument is very poor imo, and I truly believe was answered at a previous post. Pioneer has so many answers for so many stuff. It's just that this Breach deck is that busted. It's a card that was restricted in Vintage, ffs and they printed it in Standard. If Pioneer needs one th...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Pioneer has the same answer/threat imbalance as Modern, except magnified because it doesn't go back far enough to the sets where Wizards was still printing stronger answers like Bolt, Leak, and Path. Pioneer tries to hide this with the threats being a turn or two slower than in Modern, so the games...

Re: [Deck] Mardu Pyromancer

i don't think there are any cards that are comparable to looting for us, sure there are stuff like Cathartic Reunion or Insolent Neonate but those are either too expensive for us or too weak, we're not dredge and we don't want to just put stuff in the yard at any cost looting was our value engine an...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

This thread has always had something mindboggling about it... Most of the time it functions like some crazy pro-unban 'cult' that demonizes bans and equates unbans with generosity or goodwill from wizards, as if wizards and the playerbase have opposing goals and wizards abuses it's role to oppress t...
