Re: What are your first decks in Modern?

I started on grixis delver the summer before twin was banned, borrowing 2/3rds of the deck from a friend, the first decks I put together on my own were dredge and UW spirits aiming for the later to build into Jeskai flash pre have unbanning, but got sidetracked and built esper control when fatal pus...

Re: Most basic framework for SFM deck.

I personally really like the shells that appear to have traded out the Narset's and Teferi's in UW for SFM along with lower cmc counters. See for example Jacob Nordin's 10th place SCG Open list or Pete Ingram's 12th place SCG Open list . These lists feature a lot of the power that UW control shells ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I think preordain is unlikely to come off next simply because WotC has continually referenced the success of UWx strategies over the past few years as a reason why they were unlikely to unban SFM. Particularly while the impacts of this ban are still broadly settling, I imagine barring another bonker...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Other things that also make SFM good in Legacy: TNN as a hard to answer/unblockable threat to generate advantage off of Jitte/Sword of X and Y. I haven't played with SFM in modern, I think it'll find a decent shell, but it lacks contextually many of the things that makes her as good as she is in Leg...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Please, no more Twin talk. There's more to this thread than Twin, especially in the wake of this update. I don't think we should be talking about any unbans or bans period at this point. At least not for many months. I'm much more interested in discussing where the metagame might evolve. We have a ...

Re: [Deck] Azorius Control

I think there will be a bifurcation in UW lists. If I wanted to fit SFM into a package, I'd look at the Esper Mentor lists as a starting point, and then build backwards into a straight UWx shell. Since modern lack of TNN equivalent (outside of Etched Champion) I would sooner start on a UWR or UWB st...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Well, in the scenario presented, the UR player is down 3 cards because the cast 3 Looting (which is highly unlikely) and unless they pitched Phoenixes, they're just down cards. I don't necessarily believe the decks are the "same," but was more just highlighting that one way of clearing th...

Re: [Deck] Azorius Control

Been on standard for a while since I wasn't happy with the format post-WAR. Was wondering if there are any good current sideboard guides for the deck under current conditions.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Manamorphose X 3, Faithless Looting, flip Thing in the Ice to Awoken Horror, bounce creatures, attack for 7 is just not going to fit the bill of being interactive for most Modern players. Whether it's an amazing play or not is more debatable... This is interesting. Using 4 cards to sweep a board an...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

For me what makes modern largely 'uninteractive' is that a lot of the cards feel like they're just extreme blowouts. Hogaak, TitI, Phoenix, (E/G) tron's top end, yes in many cases decks around them can be built to be interactive (counter, discard, etc etc), but if a main threat resolves and doesn't...
