Re: SCD: Humble Defector
You assess that the current power level based on available information for the players is such that the dealmade players are each now less threatening than the player who didn't participate in the deal. Who do you target? If it's the dealmaking players, then aren't you misplaying? And if it's the n...

Re: SCD: Humble Defector
Do you keep targeting them, even though the scales are now equal? Okay, let's say you do that - you've gotta target someone if you want to win, usually, might as well be them. Okay, so you do that for a second and now they're at 24% and player D is now at 27% because you haven't been targeting him....

Re: SCD: Humble Defector
If the degree to which you increase your threat assessment against dealmakers is proportional to the advantage those players get from said dealmaking, then wouldn't that dealmaking, at worst, equal out and be strategically neutral? Not if it's a 4 player game, and you put 2 players on notice every ...

Re: SCD: Humble Defector
I feel like your position has shifted from "I logically threat assess dealmaking players as being bigger threats and thus target them more frequently" into "I dislike dealmaking because I don't like the play experience it creates, and so I'm socially engineering my meta against dealm...

Re: SCD: Humble Defector
I don't think it's a huge factor in most games though. And in my experience, while certainly I've played against people who refuse to make any deals, the vast majority of players are at least willing to do some dealmaking. So I feel like you'll be targeting most people...which kinda just means you'...

Re: SCD: Humble Defector
I don't think "being on the record for selling out the table" counts for anything whatsoever. There is distinct strategic value in eliminating players who would collude. When a table becomes 2v1v1 instead of a free-for-all, it is almost never going to be correct for the ones to target eac...

Re: SCD: Humble Defector
-When people are playing at typical-commander-player level (i.e. pretty bad) defector is an element of chaos (at best) or accelerationist stupidity (at worst). Bad gameplay experience. I might phrase this differently, but conceptually I agree. -When people are playing more intelligently, but using ...

Re: SCD: Humble Defector
This thread is kind of amazing, DirkGently . Humble Defector is everything you think politics is, and it's precisely the sort of politicking I hate, and yet here we are. How many times have we had the argument about whether dealmaking is good or bad strategy, and now you've got an entire thread dedi...

Re: Zedruu the Greatest of All Time
Think Struggle for Project Purity will be replacing Font of Mythos ? Not for me. A lot of the games I get to play are 1v1, probably like 1/3 of the time. And then some games are 3 people, more than 4 is super rare, and the card will do less if opponents die. So for me, I'd expect that to average ou...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Fumiko the Lowblood
Fumiko is a niche effect, as you want it in a deck that both wants the table to go aggro and also can keep the attacks away from itself, but when you have that kind of deck, this in the conversation for the best effect of its kind (I'm also an Angel's Trumpet fan).

I'm pretty shameless buying singles for Zedruu. Otherwise, a couple bucks is about right, and I'd rather trade whenever possible.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Heroic Intervention
I really like Heroic Intervention as a card. Stuff that rattlesnakes sweeper decks (turning their sweeper into a wincon for you) are a really fun play pattern overall. I find it a little unfortunate that they tend to reward counterspells as a control mechanic, but such is life. Imma be picky here, ...

Re: Topical Discussion of the Official Multiplayer Ban List
Looking at the list, I would move Emrakul, the Aeons Torn down to "might be unbanned someday", the other Eldrazi titans aren't really ruining the format, and I think Emrakul's banning happened in part because it was a prerelease promo, everyone got one, and it could go into any deck. I don...

Re: Zedruu the Greatest of All Time
If I remember my morph rules correctly, people shouldn't be able to kill it in response either. Correct. Or at least, to get specific, the first time they can respond is when the donate ability is on the stack, so it doesn't matter if they kill it then because it's happening anyway. Dragonlover Sid...

I've banked perfectly fair Magosi counters a couple times, but it is definitely there to launder the Chance for Glory turn.

Re: Zedruu the Greatest of All Time
Jeskai Ascendancy . It's been too long since I pulled an Ascendancy combo (since the Banishing Knack days tbp) and, while I do run tons of rocks and Rise and Shine , that interaction happens once in a year in my deck (or more specifically: when it happens, I have other ways to win the game already)...

Re: Zedruu the Greatest of All Time
In other news, this is how my list looks for now. Would you say that you like 2-mv mana rocks? It's a weird experience looking at someone else's list for inspiration, as my brain seems only capable of seeing the different things you've included and not the things you've cut, and that's really where...
