Asmodeus got elevated to God level status during 4th edition. Which is kinda interesting if you know his origin alleged origin.

His original backstory, which is rarely mentioned these days, had him as one of a twin pair of serpentine creator gods, both of serpentine form and bound together. Together they created the great wheel of the multiverse (the standard D&D cosmology). Eventually they had a difference of opinion and tore away from each other. The being that would become Asmodeus fell into the Nine Hells of Baator, all the way to the bottom where his immense form created a massive crevice in the ninth circle, while his sister ascended into the Seven Heavens of Celestia, where she eventually became the goddess of the Coatl.

So yeah, he eventually reclaimed his godhood.
